Been with them for 2 months now and honestly no issues at all. Much better than Vodafone for sure.

    • +4

I was with them one month. Something very dodgy going on with data calculations which are slow to update… and beware going over your data allocation because you’re paying $9/Gb afterwards. I got slugged 4Gb during a day my device was locked inside my empty house.

Argumentative and dismissive staff and a trip to TIO website to have my claim considered fairly, was my experience.

      • +11

Oh wow – this was exactly my experience too. They tried slugging me with $83 in excess data charges even though I hardly use the device in question and it was at home on Wi-Fi at the time – basically a clawback of any savings you might receive. CSRs said 14GB was used at 10pm, yet they only messaged about excess data at 2am, with data barring only then kicking in hours after the 'excess data' had accrued at 4am.

Very stingy, unempathetic, and unreliable customer service despite their 'local' team – I'd take Telstra's offshore live chat CS any day. I had to follow up three times regarding the excess data dispute, despite reassurances I would receive a response from the CS manager. I asked the CSR when I'd receive a response from his manager, he said, "I don't know. That's up to him." – how professional!

To add insult to injury, CIS was never sent to me and isn't on their website, contrary to TIO requirements. When I pointed this out, the CSR denied it and then said he would email me a copy, which he never did. There are no data usage logs on their website, also in contravention of TIO requirements.

I can't switch away quick enough. Definitely wouldn't recommend them.

Sounds dodgy. If anyone signs up they should just add a disposable prepaid card with minimal money on it maybe.

It sounds like circles life where they have cheap plans but make the profit on excess charges or customers not using their data as they r too scared to go over the limit

        • +1

Interesting experiences from you both, I haven't had this issue (touch wood) but I'm not a massive data user. I get 25GB each month, and after being on the plan 3 months I have 25GB in the data bank and as of today it's just clocked over to the new month, so have another 25GB to add to that.

This will be my 3rd month with them, will make sure I keep an eye on it!

          • @bonezAU: Could you please confirm if Moose have an option in Voicemail where you can return the call to a person who left a message directly from Voicemail by dialling one or two digits?

    • Do they have speed caps?

I notice most cheap 5g plans have a limited Max speed

  • +5

Amazing deal for a 5G plan. My only gripe is no eSIM :(

    • agree, no eSIM is deal breaker on otherwise very good deal

    • +7

Their 5G is a joke. I took the train from Southern Cross to Dandenong last week and I couldn't watch videos most of the time. Sometimes I couldn't even open a web page.

  • +5

I'm with Moose… looks like I need to port out and port in to get this offer..

  • +2

My first reaction is that I got gipped by signing up for the $11.80/month deal - but doing the maths this deal ends up being a $105 saving across the 7 months, compared to the $104 saving across 8 months on the old deal.

So I guess I'm out a dollar. But otherwise, no complaints with the service at all so far.

Only thing to note is that the CIS for this plan states that 5G speeds are throttled to 100Mpbs - if that matters to anyone (I believe their highest priced plan is not throttled)

    • Yep on same deal. No complaints here

    • +2

5G with 100Mbps throttle is like having a Ferrari but max speed limit everywhere is 60…..

      • +1

If I’m not mistaken, most retailers have a 100 or 150Mbps cap right? Are there a few good ones with a higher cap?

        • I'm with Belong, 5GB plan for $19 a month with a 250Mbps 5G cap. Because 5GB isn't enough data for me, I just utilise the data sharing feature and unlimited data banking to buy a couple hundred gigs every year or so.

      • +4

Hmmm maybe a ferrari with max speed of 120 will be a more accurate analogy because that is the speed limit anyway and you can’t really do much on a phone to utilise full 5g capability unless you are just running speed tests to satisfy yourself (or using as home wifi with many devices connected).
So i will buy a heavily discounted ferrari with max speed of 120 any day of the week!

      • +1

Sure but who needs full 5G speed on their phone?

  • +4

Wish they can do this $10/month forever, i will jump in, so painful and tire every year keep looking for cheaper prepaid deals and keep porting

    • +3

that will be awesome but Australian retailers don't seem to reward loyalty………..

      • Why would anyone reward loyalty? You already have their business. Churning is the only way bro!

        • Imo I think a good business should care for its existing customers as much as the new customers if not more

          • @kiLbiL: That's what we think, that's not they think. We have no bargaining power other than leaving (which is why new signups get bonus)

      • Its unfortunate. I think they should make it illegal to make promotional periods for any service.

        • So you'd prefer just paying full price all the time and never having a discount?

          • @bonezAU: Yes. This will make companies actually compete on their real rates. Then people don't have to waste their time churning between companies for better prices.

    • thats the joy and spirit of ozbargin

  • I still can’t believe some people pay huge money for Telstra/optus/voda. Deals like this are so good

    • +3

The same reason why people stick with the big 4 banks despite them consistently offering the worst deals (generally inversely proportional to how big they are).

They are perceived to be more "stable".

It's also worth noting that the big 3 tend to have more extras, like free streaming of certain sports they have the rights to and the like.

If people make use of these extras, then it may not be as bad of a deal as they are for people like us.

Also, being big means a bigger marketing budget.

Ask a random person on the street whether they have heard of the big 3 telcos vs Moose Mobile. The answers should be predictable.

      • WELL ACTUALLY

    • +1

They pay for full 5G speed.

  • Wife is with amaysim which uses optus.
Prob won't count as a port?

    • +4

It's a port. As long as it's not the same provider, the backbone doesn't usually matter.

  • +2

Was on their $11.80 plan, they charged me an extra $1.97 each month, last week I ported my number to Ezysim 100GB 365 days plan for $87.50, the physical SIM is $99.

    • Doesn't look like 5G coverage is included in that plan.

      • +1
      • +2

Idk why anyone cares. 5G is pointless for most people, 4G is over 100mbps which is more then enough for almost anything you're doing on mobile

    • What was their explanation for the $1.97 extra a month? They have not charged me that and I have been on their $11.80 plan

      • Mobile other charges, my another account has been charged $1.57. I will port this number to Ezysim after 2 weeks.

        • wow read you comment and then checked my May bill and I've been charged $1.57 too. Dodgy hey

    • How are you finding Ezysim? I too jumped on the $87.50 plan, just waiting for my Catch Connect plan to finish in a couple of weeks. Did you go esim? No issues with the port?

      • +1

No issues, it took about 5 minutes to successfully transfer after replying the one-time verification code.

    • did you get confirmation from EZYsim that it's free to received sms from Australia for free while overseas? such as banking sms or Australia mobile sms? as long as you don't reply them?

  • Which sim is the best for overseas? No data usage only wanna receive Text messages. Thanks

    • +1

I use amaysim PAYG and add $10 credit each year to keep it active.

    • +1

I think, you should be able to recieve SMS to any sim while overseas.
I used to have Kogan and was getting SMS overseas. My family member had Amaysim and was getting SMS too.
      Couldn't reply of course.

      • I found this tnc. It explicitly says receiving SMS overseas is not included in monthly allowance.
        https://moosemobile.com.au/uploads/docs/TCPCompliance.pdf

Importantly, you may also be charged for receiving calls and SMS when using your service overseas.
Making and receiving calls/SMS overseas is not included in your monthly allowance and you will be required to pay these charges in addition to your monthly charge

  • +4

Just keep in mind you can't receive texts when overseas, which can be annoying when your bank needs to send you OTPs to verify transactions etc. Learned this the hard way

    • +2

I was about to sign up until i saw your comment. Do you know why/ is it something you can turn on/ off so you can receive them?

      Update-
Did it not work this way for you?

Need to receive a banking SMS while overseas?

Receiving an SMS is FREE with Moose Mobile's roaming service and you will not begin a roaming pack if you are simply receiving an SMS from your Australian bank to your number. You will only incur costs with roaming if you send an SMS, make or receive a call, or use mobile data.

    • +1

Wow I thought this was normal. Is there a list or way to determine with which providers you can/cannot do this?

      • +3

I'm pretty certain all providers allow for incoming SMS whilst overseas now.

    • +1

I used to have Kogan and was getting SMS overseas. My family member had Amaysim and was getting SMS too.

    • One of the reasons I have a virtual number from a VoIP provider which can receive SMS (over data obvs) anywhere I am.

    • +1

You DO receive sms overseas with no cost. Just make sure u do not take any calls though as they will charge a $15 roaming fee.

Source: Used it last month while in Southeast asia

  • can i use this in a wifi router? i'm using telstar 5G 85$.

    • Which wifi router support sim slot please?

      • If you google 5g (or 4g) modem, you’ll find plenty.

  • Im with them atm, Somehow it seems a little behind amaysim. Doesnt hit 5g at all in my area either even when it says it should on the map.

    • Do you have a phone that covers all the current 5G frequencies? Eg iPhone 14 or above, Pixel 7 or above.
This makes a huge difference to where you'll get 5G.
Although Amaysim 5G and Moose 5G coverage should be exactly the same.

  • Been with them for a few months and no issues at all.

  • +1

Do they do a credit check on you for $10 a month?

  • +1

I have been with moose a few months. I was with Optus. I have no problems at all since joining them. Still the same network.

    • Could you please confirm if Moose have an option in Voicemail where you can return the call to a person who left a message directly from Voicemail by dialling one or two digits?

  • use optus?

  • got one

  • Just signed up, thanks OP 👍

Oh, does anyone know if you can purchase international roaming packs?

Edit: ignore that, found out it does but a little steep so esim it is.

  • +9

FYI: "Excess data is charged at $9 per GB ($0.00879 per
MB). However, you will only be charged for what you
use in KB increments" — https://moosemobile.com.au/uploads/docs/CIS/promo/Moose-9.80…

As usual for post paid plans be a little careful with how much data you are using. The first 25G is $9.80. The next 25GB is $225.

    • +1

      Seems dodgy as hell

      • This is exactly why I won't touch postpaid plans now, it's just too risky when it comes to excess usage.

        • I set up data limits and warnings on my phone.

        • I'm considering Felix, 25g per month, unlimited banking, and even if you go over you just get throttling to 1.5mb instead of paying excess.

          • @TrendyTim: Funny you say that, I just signed up to Felix today. Love the $10 deal for 3 months, will probably stay after that also as their roaming rates are great.

    • can't turn off auto top up?

      • You can bar service data from the app

        • ok thanks

  • Wanted to try them last year. Bought one sim online from their website but the transaction didn't seem like it went through. So I put thru the transaction again and ended up buying 2 by mistake. How I found out was I looked at my credit card and was charged twice. I rang them and explained what had happened. They agreed to refund one of the sims and cancel the other one. Unfortunately they cancelled the sim I had already activated and didn't help at all after that. This is despite my telling them which sim I had already activated. So now I hesitate to do business with them.

    • Moose are the new circles life

  • Hi guys, does anyone know of a cheap monthly or yearly plan which has Apple Watch mobile support?

    • Can't be a yearly plan as that would mean it is prepaid and prepaid on all Australian networks do not support Apple watch.
Do you have a postpaid plan for your phone?

      • Here's a yearly standalone plan for Apple Watch, $99/year, with unlimited data, calls and SMS:

        https://www.betterroaming.com/watches/apple-watch-family/#se…

Also has a monthly option, $10.99/month. From previous comments, it uses the Vodafone network. If you're searching for comments about it, the website used to be called TruPhone.

        • I tried that and could never get it working, it also doesn't have NumberSync, which partly defeats the point of it (unless that has changed).

          • @SimAus007:

            doesn't have NumberSync

Well I did point out that it's a standalone plan, so it has a separate phone number to your iPhone. But a lot of younger people rarely use voice calls or SMS, so no disadvantage for them. And you can still make calls from the watch, the only real disadvantage is that you can't answer calls to your iPhone through your watch. But you could set the voicemail message on your iPhone's phone number to say "try calling my other number, it's nnnn-nnn-nnn, or leave a message after the beep".

There is also the possibility of redirecting unanswered calls to your watch's phone number, but that has a per-minute charge.

It has a huge price advantage over the conventional plans that allow you to use your watch on the mobile network, I reckon most OzBargainers would put up with the slight inconvenience.

  • Can someone recommend a good 5G router please?

  • Does the billing cycle start as soon as your purchase this or after you activate? My plan doesn't finish till nex week but I want the sim in my hands ready to go before then so I don't have any downtime.

    • +1

After you activate but the first month's bill is pro-rataed

  • Attractive offer but the Optus service where I live is appalling. Worse than Vodafone. If I could find a cheap Telstra MVNO I would go with that.

  • Got sent the wrong sim card and couldnt activate. Now I have to wait for a new sim to arrive with no current service - very annoying.

  • +1

Looks like promo has extended to 2/July

Also seems to work if you activate the plan after 2/Kuly

    T&C:
You will still receive the promotion even if you connect your service after the promotion end date as long as you purchased before the promotion end date. If you bought a promotional plan before the 25th of June, the connection process for any purchased plans must begin before June 28th 2024. This means that you will need to activate your service with us by calling or pressing the activate button on the website before this date. If you purchased a promotional from the 26th of June 2024 onwards, then you will have three months to activate your promotional service.
