It seems like a bunch of us just bought a Pentax Q from Ted's during their sale so why not have a place to discuss all things related to the Pentax Q. Please post pics and any thoughts you might have regarding the Pentax Q. Feel free to ask questions if you need any help, I'm sure people would be more than willing to help if they know the answer to your questions.

      Is it pentax lens (pk mount?) if so which converter you use and was it difficult to shoot without auto focus?

        Auto focus is kind of not the done thing for extreme macro. most focussing is either done with a rail, or moveing the camera back and forth because the in foces plane is tiny… like fractions of a millimetre… hence a rail slider on a tripod is the usual way to go. Also a flash is almost 100% necessary unless you are in bright sunlight. Stopping down gives you a bigger depth of field but of course requires more light..

        This is a canon 100mm f/2.8L lens so just a canon ef adapter - seems to focus confirm fine, but only manually focusing.

      Nice! I have an old Canon FD macro lens but I haven't bought an FD adapter yet for the Q. How much did your EOS adapter cost?

        EF adapter was about $20 from eBay. Works perfectly fine. For max zoom you really need a tripod with and to focus with a rail. No auto focus and aperture has to be set first on a canon… or kept wide open.

    how does it compare to a p&s camera like canon 220hs? is it a worthy upgrade? cheers

      Probably better quality images (the Pentax Q sensor is amazing considering it's not that big) but if you get the deal with the 01 Standard Prime Lens then you don't get to zoom in and out. The zoom lenses for the Q system are quite pricey. That said, you're getting a fast prime if you got the 01 Standard Prime Lens which has it's own advantages (better low light capabilities). Plus you get the ability to swap lenses with the Q whereas you can't do it on a P&S.

      Apples and oranges. Depends what your priorities are and what you want to shoot.

        I have one with the zoom lens and I am willing to part. New, took a couple of pictures to ensure that it is working. I have the receipt so it has full Australian warranty. Message me if interested.

      I wanna hang onto mine (since it's probably the only camera that'll take my custom fisheye lens) but I think I have way too many cameras. Looks like you have enough people wanting to sell theirs though but let me know if you're near Randwick 2031 or even the Sydney CBD. I can chuck in the C-mount adapter I bought for it and a C-mount lens.

          Fair enough.

          I originally bought it for something else but it really is far smaller than the pics have you think; there wouldn't be much air left with what you describe.

          Worth a shot in future in chase you change your mind. I had some trouble sourcing a reasonably-priced smallish case for the Q until I decided on the DCB-303.

    Been a while but for those of you that held on to your Pentax Q, I've done a write up on a couple of C-mount lenses that I got as part of a bundle.

    They're not good quality lenses so don't get your hopes up but they can be fun. I have 2 of the Spacecom and I think 6 of the Rainbow so if anyone lives nearby and is interested, you can have it for $15. You'll need a C-mount to Pentax Q adapter though, I bought mine for under $10.
