Best Methods to Pay Bills with Credit Card (Low/No Fees)

I've been using Zip Pay to pay bills and earn credit card points via their BPAY option, but they no longer accept the Deft Payment Systems BPAY code I use for my strata fees.

What other methods or services do you use to:

  • Pay bills with a credit card
  • Avoid high fees
  • Earn reward points

Looking forward to your suggestions!

  • You can use Sniip but there are fee's.

If you signup via someones referral from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/sniip.com you will get $10 credit which might cover the fees for one bill at least.

I have been using one of those discounted mastercard giftcards.
Coles one works with Deft and triggers a slightly lower fee (from memory it was 0.4%).
I usually wait for one of those promotions: 10% discount, additional flybuys points, or purchase fees waived.
Timing it can be awkward, as you don't want to hold onto these cards for too long. A lot of report of it being hacked, so I usually use them as soon as I finalise my purchase.

Cheers mate. This sounds like the best option for now.

  • I wait for a 0% interest for 12/18 months card offer then put all my expenses on that card until its maxxed, putting 100% of my income into my homeloan.

Once the 0% interest period ends either balance transfer to a card with 0% on balance transfers or redraw on your homeloan & pay off the card, then start again.

Much less time messing about with discounted gift cards/shuffling money around for points.

    • This sounds like a good strategy for everyday expenses, but it still suffers from the issue where large bills don't earn points unless you pay a hefty fee.

  • Some credit cards allow you to pay bills using BPay via the card's app/website. One example of such card it's Citibank, not sure how common these feature is among other credit card providers though

    • I use this function, but I don't believe you earn reward points or that the spending counts towards any bonus point offers. Regardless, it's still nice to delay the transfer of actual funds.

  • I'm literally on the same boat. Been trying to find a way to pay ATO bills that earn rewards point. Zip Pay worked few weeks ago but now it's giving error message for me. Not sure if it's just me or everyone having the same problem. Payment processor like sniip etc charges quite high fee, not much benefit from my calculation.
If anyone has any suggestion, please share some thoughts!!

  • Years ago, I used to link my Amex card to PayPal and then pay bills using Post Billpay. Could still be an option unless times have changed.

    • I don’t think Pot Billpay can be used to pay ATO? It just wouldn’t let ATO’s biller code to be entered in.

  • Would love a new method too, Zip cancelling BPAY to deft is a huge bummer

PostBill pay shows up on my Deft notice but there is no 4 digit number required on this page: https://paypaperbills.postbillpay.com.au/postbillpay/default…
