Ye I know it's a common deal, but this goes for quite a while, better than the last 48 hour sale.

As other posters have said, probably a good deal 12 months ago, but now with the U3013 around the corner, probably not so much.

  • They seem to have this deal every couple of weeks. Looks like they are getting rid of old stock before the U3013 comes out next March.

    • They've had this deal forever, don't think it's a sign of a new model. I have high hopes for a new one without the disgusting coating

      • What disgusting coating?

Personally, I think (or rather hope), that we are on the verge of a display revolution. The pc world has been stuck in a 1920x1200 resolution (and in the case of the Dell 30" - the 2560x1600 resolution) - for what, more than a decade?.

However, two forces are bucking this trend. One from the tablet/phone direction - as small devices with increasingly unbelievable resolutions are coming out.
The other from the ultra-large direction - as 80+ inch 4K TVs are now on the market.

Therefore, the likelihood of being able to obtain a display with quadruple this full hd resolution (basically, a 4K display), is getting increasingly high. But my guess is, it's still 3+ years away :-( After all, the TV industry just got through flogging the full hd display as the next best thing. It might be a while before they can gather enough ammo to get a mass-scale 4K display past consumer defences).

Since, in my case, the lifetime for my monitors is 5+ years, I'm going to wait for the 4Ks.

Ok, that's enough of being Nostradamus for the day ;-)

      • That was heaps informative, raziel.

  • Would love to get one for myself, but still too pricey :(

3 things in life are certain:

    1. Death
    2. Taxes
    3. A fornightly deal on Dell 30" monitors
  • I have a Dell 24' Ultrasharp. Nice monitor but now it has a think pink vertical line down the screen that really annoys me. Wish I could justify paying over a grand for this baby…

    • yea more bad news…News

    • It it out of warranty? When my U2408 got a blue line down the screen, Dell sent me a brand new U2410 to replace it a few days later. Love it and still going strong years later.

  • If it was on special for $999 or below I'd jump at it. But it's just not worth it when I know I'd want to buy two of them to upgrade from my dual U2711's ;)

    • If it was LED I'd probably also jump on it.

I'm not considering the U2713HM at present, waiting for it to go back on sale.

        A trampoline would be cheaper?

How's does an Apple Cinema Display or Apple Thunderbolt Display compare to this?

    • +2

The discontinued 30" Cinema Display was about equivalent (to the very similar 3008), both using LG Panels

The Thunderbolt display is smaller, 16:9 (less desirable for workflow imo) and glossy VS a very harsh antiglare (neither are perfect). Less ports, but makes a good dock for a macbook I guess. At this price I'd take the dell

      • thanks for the info!

  • Is there a good chance monitors will be part of clickfrenzy?

I'd say there's a good chance of the servers melting, beyond that who knows?
