Officeworks Price Match Issue for iPad Pro

I tried to price match Costco iPad Pro 13 inch at a Gold Coast Officeworks store today
https://www.costco.com.au/Computers/iPads-Tablets/iPads/Appl…

Obviously this is the exact same iPad as officeworks has. The employee informed me that there is no product no/part number on the listing so there is no way for them to price match. He claims that is the policy and thats that!

Has anyone had any success ringing up officeworks head office to get the price match arranged? Or do I just have to try another officeworks or give up on trying to price match and order from Costco? Thank you

Officework price match policy is based on what the manager had for breakfast, you could keep trying it and waste your time or just buy it from Costco. And time is money.

LITERALLY YES! I always call up and do it via the 1300 Officeworks line and pick it up in store. My final straw was getting rejected on one for a completely made up reason and then calling whilst I was still in store, paying for it over the phone and then asking them to get it ready for collection. The Manager was refused to say anything and walked away with a butt hurt look on their face.

Once I went to the store for a price match, the manager said no, then I priced matched through 1300* and picked it up from the same manager on the same day hahaha

        • How do u pay for it? I don’t use physical cards any more everything is Apple pay

OW also has a 5% price beat, which may make it $100 or so on a $2k+ purchase. That being said, I've been told by OW that they don't match Costco pricing because it requires membership, but another employee at another store 10km away did it fine.

yea had same issues, managers refusing or making it very hard to price match, taking so long to serve you also when its a price match,

      • Yes, some of the ones that I’ve been to refuse to price match. I guess it all comes down to the manager, I was also told that Costco needs a membership and they wouldn’t be to price match because I didn’t have membership. Took my Costco membership out and they went away to confirm with the manager. Came back and said no we don’t price match Costco 😂

I thought Officeworks did not price match Costco as Costco requires membership

      You thought wrong.

Why not save all the effort and buy from costco?

    • Save an extra 5% :)

    • If you are after a bargain then I suppose going to an office works for a 5% price beat would be better. I too of that sometimes gift card from Cole’s go on sale, for example they are doing 10% off on selected intimate gift cards until this Wednesday so if office works price beats Costco then you go ahead and purchase those gift cards and get a further 10% off of the 5% price beat

Completely depends on who’s working. Sometimes the people working will do whatever they can to deny the price beat like their jobs or income depend on it. Other times they just look if the item looks the same as the one you’re trying to buy.

One time I wanted to get a price beat on Samsung galaxy a9 plus tab using Costco (Shipped and Sold by Costco on their site) and the worker asked 3 other people, checked their phones, computer and called up head office and apparently they weren’t allowed to. (Wasted 40 minutes doing this). Went into another one and they did it in 2 minutes. If you see a worker that looks like they’re in their mid 40s, don’t bother. I feel that over the phone price beat works way more than in store. Could just be the stores around me. Good luck :)

  • Worth trying a different OW store?

Totally depends on the person. These days I just call up, if they agree I take down their name and get them to put it aside. If they refuse , eh, life goes on and haven’t wasted a trip.

The employee perhaps doesn't stay up to date with Apple products and really isn't 100% confident that it's the exact same iPad. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt anyway. Whenever someone speeds and cuts me off on the road, I tell myself they probably desperately need to poop so they are rushing home.

(Cognitive behavioral therapy enjoyer I just cut off in traffic) Think positively. He is probably in a rush for a reason. Maybe he’s late for a job interview. Maybe his wife is giving birth.

On the topic, I've been stung by OfficeWorks and their stickler price match policies. I did walk out and I bought the product elsewhere (Amazon). But it was a pretty shabby experience as the OW with supply wasn't exactly next door and I don't have a car. That said this post is helpful because next time I'll ring up for the price match before going.

    • He recognised it was the same one however came up with the product code needing to be the same as it could have different warranty. He was actually being an smartass - In the end i said well I was going to buy everything, the pencil and Magic Keyboard but obviously I will leave it now and his reply was sounds good…

      • Did you rub him up the wrong way at any point?

        • Not that I am aware of I was friendly

  • Buy it directly from Apple Edu for $2030 or use discount Apple Gift Cards currently on promo @ Woolies, bringing it down to $1827. I did it two weeks ago from the Coles Apple Promo; the only problem is I had to get it delivered & couldn’t pick it up from an Apple Store.

    • Thank you. I can’t buy gift cards as it’s a business purchase. Wouldn’t I need edu email to buy from Apple edu?

      • You don't need an edu email; the tax invoice you will receive from Apple is the same as a retail purchase.

Why would anyone spend $2,099 on this?

For that price, you literally could get a MacBook Air and an almost identical used M1 iPad Pro 12.9" on eBay.

    • +1

No I have the MacBook Air. This would serve a different purpose

  • It's pretty much depends which employee you talk to. I've been lucky enough to price match against Costco twice. However, I know other people who have been turned down.

  • Update - phoned Officeworks head office and no problems with price match. Very easy process

    Depends on who you get.
My kid wanted a tablet. Found a good price on internet.
Called Office works head office and they said there was no bar code so wouldn't price match.
Went to local Office works and got price match.
