Just happened to come across this as I needed more storage. There was a deal posted a month ago for this at $168, so this should be a good price to expand your storage, if needed.

At least 30 available at time of posting. Can get cheaper deals if you find someone to split 10 with.

Is this alright for a boot drive?

    • +1

Depends on your MB. This is only a Gen3 nvme.

For about $25 more, you can get a gen4 Lexar that has 3x the read and write speed.

      • Which will amount to being about 5% faster for windows/applcations outside of transferring files. There's barely any real world difference between sata and nvme as is.

        • In your opinion.. should i just not worry about a Gen4 and go for a Gen3?

I'm mainly going to be coding and running VM. No graphical work at all.

      • also issues with linux on the lexar unless you're using a distribution with Kernel >=6.5.5

Hold for Lowest Ever $120? (Sep 06, 2023)

    • Sure, just don't hold your breath.

  • what's the easiest way for me to transfer my windows C: partition from another NVMe to this in the only computer ?

    • +3

new drive in an external caddy and apps like clonezilla or Macrium Reflect.
Have used Macrium in the past and simple as drop and drag the partition to the new drive, let it do its thing and then swap drives.

  • This is much much better for $2 more https://amzn.asia/d/1nnmBCa

Isn't there some rather terrible and.. worrying 1-2 stars?

I been eyeing that as well..

      • i focus solely on critical reviews after this deal cost 3¢ come with instructions to leave a positive review without any photographs for chance to win $30 amazon gift card

leaving an honest review with any mention of those instructions' amazon moderator wouldn't approve so no one would be aware of the seller's shonky behavior

  • What’s the best enclosure for this?

I had an Orico 20Gbps 3.2 gen 2x2 enclosure, delivered today. It was $45 delivered from the official Orico store on Ebay AU.

Getting 2000MB/s in CrystalDiskmark with various gen 3 and 4 NVME drives I've tested so far. Currently testing recording footage at ~320MB/s for one hour with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus. Not expecting any errors, will update if I get any overheating issues or dropped frames.

      • I take it no issues.
Will be getting this combo granted all goes well.

Testing was a little bit bumpy. TLDR - fine for PCIE gen 4 drive, but suitability for PCIE gen 3 depends on use case.

With Windows the Orico enclosure works as expected with PCIE gen 3 and 4 drives. However, if using for recording video at high bitrates (~160MB/s and above) the enclosure is fine with PCIE 4 drives, but something about PCIE 3 drives means they overheat after a few minutes and shutdown. The PCIE gen 4 recorded no worries for 1hour 40ish mins until the 1TB drive was completely full.

Compared to the $80 Comsol 10Gbps enclosure I recently returned due to being faulty, the Orico is much better value and much faster.

ETA - testing with Windows 11, Samsung 970 Plus (PCIE gen 3), Crucial P5 (PCIE gen 4) and the video recording was done on a BMD Video Assist.

Most eBay listings are $70+, this is the one I grabbed for $45 delivered https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/386873975165?mkpid=0&emsid=e1105…
