I’m so obsessed with this camera. I love its design so much, and the 40mm f/2 as a kit is fantastic…

And then I hold it… it just feels so uncomfortable (compared to the a7C II or something similar), and I feel like the grip throws off the aesthetic. I want to pick it, but the boring sensible pick (again, a7C II) is cheaper and seems ultimately better…

    • does this use the same lens mount with the nikon dslr? or atleast does they have the converter for it? Its been a while since I follow camera's news

Z mount. You'll need an adaptor.

I expect there's cheaper third party options.

Would be a shame not to purchase at least one Z-mount lens for this though - something compact so that you can make the most out of using this retro body as a walk-around, without a DSLR lens poking out a mile from the body on an adaptor.

      Beautiful isn't it.

I think I would get used to the feel, but I've not held one. Is it the grip you have issue with? The A7Cii has a reasonable size grip on it, but this has more of a 'why bother' lip on the side. I've held plenty of 70's/80's flat rectangular SLR's though, and I wouldn't expect it to be any worse than those (and that's kind of the vibe it seems to be aiming for).

      • If anything, I think it’s the thickness. I also shoot a bit with older film SLRs (I go between a Minolta SRT 101 and a Praktica BC1), and they’re the same sort of rectangular design, but they’re not quite as chunky - the BC1 is borderline petite by comparison.

I feel like I have small hands by adult man standards though, so that could be the root issue.

Ahhh…yeah, I understand. Needs some pretty good engineering to get that thickness down, especially if you've thrown IBIS and an articulating screen into the body.

I like the feel of my A7 original…it more closely resembles these old film SLR's in dimensions, and remains my go-to every day camera. If I had this Zf, that is the role it would have to fill.

I bought this last year, from a D3S, and definitely felt like the grip was lacking. I bought the SmallRig grip, and it makes the camera a LOT easier to handle. You can actually HOLD the grip as opposed to pinching it.

SmallRig Grip: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/285506814709 (seems to also have an ebay discount currently)

      • I can imagine it’d be a big improvement! I guess I’m not desperate to make a large camera even larger though (my current digital bodies are a Lumix GX9 and a Canon M50 II - I think that reflects my priorities hahahaha).

  • Not even 10% off of the street price. They Increased the price 13% then provide “20%” discount
