    Noooo don’t do it

    It’s addictive as hell!

    • +2

      Can confirm game is addictive.

      • +2

        It’s crack

    • +2

I finally bought Vampire Survivors the other day and man, you want to talk about addictive? It makes me seriously want to buy a steam deck or the like now.

      • +2

I also really liked vampire survivors, but halls of torment was next level

      • +1

        Agreed! So addictive. Deceptively fun.

Vampire survivors is ‘crack’….ing that whip lol

The PSN version releasing soon should be a fun platinum (if it has one hopefully).

      • +2

Developed by a former casino game developer. It shows.

    • +1

I've made it up to ante 8 but haven't gone beyond that

      • it gets easier once you have unlocked the normal decks and the more "enhanced" jokers.

  • +24

Do keep in mind this is a grey key seller. Buy from one of the stores listed at https://isthereanydeal.com/game/balatro/info/ for like three dollars more , so your money actually goes to support the devs since this is an indie game

    • +1

I read an interesting article, sorry can't remember where, where a game developed tracked down where keys for his game came from on these sites. He found out fake game reviewers were getting keys for free and selling them.

      • +8

Yeah, sometimes it actually costs the devs money to fight chargebacks and other stuff due to grey market keys, so it ironically might be worse than pirating

        Related article: https://www.gamedaily.biz/developers-ask-players-to-pirate-g…

      • +1

Yeah, I work in gamedev and get contacted over Discord and twitter asking for keys. Usually it's for a review but sometimes you get other sob stories. While I don't particularly mind giving out a key here or there, it does kind of get annoying replying to everyone as you don't want to miss someone who will review the game.

The bigger worry is keys bought with stolen cc's.

    • Just to be clear, 'grey key' and 'black market' are very different.

Grey keys aren't stolen; they're most commonly bought legitimately in other jurisdictions (e.g. Czech Republic or similar) and then sold in more expensive regions to effectively take advantage of game-pricing arbitrage.

People compare CDKeys to G2A because the latter is a black market site, cycling stolen keys. To my knowledge, CDKeys is not black market like G2A (the key equivalent of Amazon), but simply grey. Many keys purchased from them will be provided in the form of a scan of the back of a manual or disc, because they have ordered physical copies of a game from a cheaper jurisdiction and scanned the keys when they came in.

      • -1

No it’s not, cheaper regions have region locks (hell you can buy those cheaper keys yourself but as you know they’ll be region locked), cdkeys and g2a are both effectively keys of unknown origin

        • You can read their business model on their site. To save you the time:
"Our management team have over thirty years of combined experience within the industry with an extensive network of suppliers and contacts from which to source products. We buy from all corners of the globe to ensure the cheapest possible prices and as we only sell products in digital form we're able to make significant savings on postage and related expenses - we then pass these reductions on to you, which ensures our pricing is the most competitive around!"

They're literally a company based around taking advantage of regional pricing disparaties.

For the record, this is why sometimes they actually end up selling games at prices which are higher than you can get them on GMG and Steam…

They aren't anything like G2A and I'm unware of any reputable source mentioning them in the same breath as G2A. They don't operate as a marketplace (which is what G2A is), but as a store selling their own products. Certainly, they enable gamers to get products cheaper than they might otherwise and, in that sense, 'cost' developers money… which is why they're a grey market… your own ethical determination governs whether or not you think that's fine. For me, it's 100% totally ethically sound. G2A doesn't even come close to ethically sound.

Please don't conflate the two without considering their VASTLY different business models.

Bought this game a week ago, I've never played poker in my life but somehow have nearly 40 hours in this. Game is literal crack.

  • +1

Not Recommended it steals away your life .
I have 150+ hours and still go back to it every single day lol
    Amazing addictive game

  • +5

It's a cheap game already - support this indie developer instead of key malpractice

  • Is there a way to try this game before buying? I haven’t played poker before but this looks interesting…

I heard there was a demo but could not for the life of me find it online.

Anyone know where I can get the installation file for the past demo that I can somehow install and try? I’d appreciate

    • +7

Buy on Steam directly, you can refund if you have under 2hrs of gameplay and if within 14 days of purchase.

      YoursTruly,
      CC

      • +2

Thanks for this tid bit 👍

Refunds are painless and instant it sounds?

      • +1

you have under 2hrs of gameplay

Shame the minute you install it you'll probably play it for 12 straight.

        • I don't find it that addictive. Vampire survivors definitely did that to me . Balatro not so much. 2 HR stint is about the max I'd play this

    • +1

I had never played poker either - zero prior knowledge required. It's a roguelite that uses poker hands as it's mechanic. It looks like gambling but couldn't be further from the truth. Northernlion has some excellent footage on YouTube - just try to find the earlier stuff as it can be pretty daunting coming in cold.

From memory it was a free demo on steam, which no longer exists now the game is released.

      • I read on the wiki page it's based on Big 2 which has basically identical hands to poker.

      • it's really more about maths than poker. if you know your probability calculation and you understand (3+3)3 is not the same as (33)+3, you'll do well in this game

  • +1

    Balatro is excellent value.

  • +5

If this game has taught me anything in life, it's that a 1 in 4 chance of something happening is mathematically 3%

This game ruined my day today (stayed up til 2am playing it)

Damn the wheel of fortune tarot

i had a cavendish broke on me after 3 hands, i am still salty about it.

        AKA the "Nope" tarot.

  • +1

The game is very good as you unlock more and more but gets very boring quickly as the more you unlock the harder it is to get a consistent run.

  • +2

Don't buy this, I have dreams of combinations, Joker cards, and I wake up to cold sweats when I don't get the right planet or tarot cards.

  • About same price on PlayStation store too atm

  • +3

Bought and immediately played 3 runs… goodbye to the rest of the night.

  • +1

This game is the work of Satan himself. So ****ing addictive. On the one hand I would recommend it because it's brilliant. On the other, I would say don't go anywhere near it because it will consume your life.

Also it's available for free on PlayStation if you have enough PS Stars points.
