This previously popular camping light is back on sale again and while most OzBargainers probably have the Arlec light from Bunnings this one is still a better quality light and you can mount it on the Arlec's tripod. AmperSand shared their thoughts on how they compare.

For mounting this has a magnetic base, ring holder for hanging and a tripod screw hole. It has up to 500lm, 3 colour temperatures (5700K/4500K/3000K) if you prefer cool/warm with each having low/medium/high modes, 5200mAh battery that charges via USB-C and can be used as power bank via USB-A and IP64 water resistance.

i dont think 500lm is really that good for the price ive used the 3 Arlec ones 10W 700LM, 20W 1400LM, 30W 2100LM long life charge comes with both wall and car its a bit bigger than the advertised one though if thats what you like

Agree, 500lm is not "good"…. just "ok" at best.

Used this one recently for 4day3night camping trip over the labour day long weekend. Mainly hung it upside down from the gazebo onto our camp kitchen. Stayed at the brightest setting every night and when I checked the LED indicator after the trip it was still at around 60%. Granted it wasn't the brightest light ever but in the pitch dark, it really does do wonders - especially since we were at an unpowered site. I recommend this one - will be buying another.

Yep, I mainly use mine on medium which lasts forever (wuben claim 20 hours) and is the brightness that high steps down after 4.5 hours or so.
There are brighter alternatives, but most claim huge lumens and either step down immediately to something more realistic or just don’t have the battery life to support it.
It is meant for close range flood lighting, I think with flood lighting most people would be flat out telling the difference between 500lumens and 800lumens unless it was side by side comparison. To me battery life at a reasonable brightness is worth so much more than a few extra lumens.
Then you get to CCT and CRI.
The chosen CCT levels to me are excellent and the CRI is 96-97 across all CCT ranges. So you get very accurate representation of colours which not many other lamps like this have unless you step into the photography space and pay way more.

I recently used this when doing some work on my car and it was so handy. I didn't have to use it at max brightness as it was too much, probably medium like tacos4brekkie and AmperSand said.

It was SO useful. the magnet worked wonders when working under the hood as it just sticks to the underside of the hood.
When working inside the car with no exposed metal, the solid keyring style stand also came in clutch.

I highly recommend this. Also the build quality is very nice.

Exactly what I was thinking of using it for. I normally use Lt1s for quick night fixes but it shines so bright on both sides (even with only 1 side on) that it's blinding.

I have a few of the small $5 versions of these but they aren't bright enough have have an ugly blue temp to the light.

      Might give this a shot

  • They seem to be around this price fairly regularly, I just ordered one last night to take fishing and have as an emergency light in the car. I reckon the Hardkorr 4 packs are a better option for camping, they can go for about $100 at Snowys and you get much better coverage from 4 smaller lights, plus orange mode is great for keeping bugs away.

Click 1200 lm Work Light (TL1916) is on clearance for $20 at Bunnings
    https://nrby.in/bunnings/0515033

1200 lm for 5 minutes. It drops to about 450 lumens at 10 minutes and lasts about 2 hours.

I measured 1,498 lumens at turn on, 1,308 lumens at 30 seconds, 1,161 lumens at 5 minutes, 522 lumens at 10 minutes, 398 lumens at 2 hours.

The flickering (pulse width modulation) after 10 minutes may be annoying.

    Wuben F5
    https://zeroair.org/2022/03/11/wuben-f5-lantern-review/

The output of the F5 is well regulated. The runtimes are longer but the output is lower (320 lm, 100 lm). 300+ lumens for 4 hours.

I used both side-by-side, one to light up the left of a scene and the other to light up the right.

The Wuben F5 seems good for lighting up an area close-up while the Click 1,200lm is a bit more intense.

    • Thanks for your reviews. You need to do a comparison of this one since they have a near identical design.

      • Thanks! (I should clarify that zeroair is another reviewer and that I'm not sharing my own links due to self-promotion rules etc)

It's pretty much out of stock:

I might compare the Wuben F5, Click TL1916 and Fenix CL28R

    • So the advertisement lumen only lasts 30s?

  • I just had a few three or four hour blackouts so I might buy this. I have been using this Arlec with Eneloops which is actually quite good, easily lasted four hours, but I may step up my game.

One question, this Wuben has non user replaceable 18650 Lithium ion batteries, I have a small touch with replaceable18650 cells, brilliant.

Is there a camping light or lantern with replaceable 18650 cells?

    Thanks

    • +1

Why not just use a powerbank to plug into the Wuben? If you had to you could get a powerbank that takes swappable 18650's?
Will open up more possibilities than trying to find a lantern that supports swappable 18650's. Maybe better off with a few flashlights and diffusers?

      • Good idea, kill two birds as well.

Could you recommend any swappable 18650 Powerbanks?

        Thanks!

        • I did a bit of googling and it seems 18650 swappable power banks are not really a mainstream thing.

Yes they do exist but seem to be constantly discontinued or suppled by dodgy third tier suppliers mostly overseas.

Probably a safety issue going on here. Shame as the idea is brilliant, there are some really good 18650 cells available, just like in a Tesla 😀

Sofirn BLF LT1 takes 4x 18650 cells and has a good runtime. There's a tripod hole at the bottom. Colour temperature can be shifted from warm to cool white and the brightness can be adjusted. It's a bit heavy. It's probably one of the best lanterns out there? Designed by the user DBSAR on budgetlightforum:

      • This thing is next level, I will need to check it out, at first glance it does everything!

It was on sale for AU$67.09 earlier in the month:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/845234

It might be cheaper on AE if you don't mind the shipping time and returns process.

          • @Tim Mc: I must have been living under a rock, I never heard of it before.

I will buy one, but now that you mentioned it, I will have to wait for the next special or return my OzBargain badges.

  • I was going to post another deal, but this one was not expired, sooo… it's this price again!

    • It shouldn't be an issue posting it again as it was 2 months ago and it's not set as long running.

      • Ehh, Prime Day is coming up, it may get cheaper still.
