I'm wondering what happens if you change retailer during the year?
I'm guessing you need to be careful when you switch.
Has anybody heard anything? It's not covered in the FAQs.

Hopefully. I plan to switch in early June, then early August, to milk a couple of sign up offers.
Haven't paid for electricity since October.
I'm wondering if it applies to holiday houses?
It doesn't. That's covered in the FAQs.
If you switch any credit will be refunded as cash.
If you want it I would recommend against Simply Energy, I think they're calling themselves Engie now.
Or maybe go with them and when they're too incompetent to give you the government bill relief, go to the ombudsman, they will give you $250 of their own money (if that's the one it is) to get the ombudsman case closed. Then you can change retailers, to say Tango who applied it without me having to do anything other than complete the Centrelink form.
I also wonder this. With many energy retailers offering join ing bonuses I need to do the math on if it is worth churning providers every few months.
I switched my energy provider in August, and my final bill with my previous provider ENGIE was till 31 July 2024 (bill issued on 19 August 2024). But the 1st installment of $75 was not on either my final bill with ENGIE or my first bill with AGL. I have called both ENGIE and AGL today, and both of them told me that they did not receive the 1st installment for me. Does anyone know how I can get my 1st installment of $75 in this situation? I'm in NSW, btw.
My first $75 showed up around 1st September with retailer A, and the second $75 showed up around 1st October with retailer B (but I had already switched to retailer C by then).
What date was your first AGL bill? If you are staying with AGL for a while maybe wait see what happens with the second bill.
Thanks for the info. My first AGL bill was on 4th Oct, and had the second $75. My last ENGIE bill was on 19th Aug, but it didn't have the first $75. You've mentioned that you had already switched to retailer C by then, so what happened to your second $75 with retailer B? Did retailer B refund your $75 to you?
Sadly retailer B overestimated my usage so I had to pay them $5 (I live in a unit and it's hard to get the building guy to unlock the meter cupboard)
From your dates maybe the 4th Oct bill actually had the first credit? Does it specifically say it is the second one?
@surfingedge: So has your $75 with retainer B actually gone nowhere? I thought that the final bill had to be an actual reading instead of an estimation.
It didn’t say that was the second instalment, but I called the customer service and was told so. AGL customer service advised me to call ENGIE, but ENGIE customer service said that they didn’t receive the first instalment and advised me to call AGL. Oops, that was a loop.
@We: Retailer B charged me $80 so the govt paid $75 and I paid $5.
I was only with B for 3 weeks due to a screw up on my end - but as I got the first instalment in September I thought the second instalment would arrive in December when I will be with C. So I didn't expect it to go to B.
The bill from B should have been around $60, but the incorrect estimate just means I will pay C approx $20 less so it's all good
Unfortunately I don't know what you can do now. Maybe make a complaint to ENGIE and see if the ombudsman can help. Or maybe AGL will actually get both credits and they will show up on your next AGL bill.
I'd expect it's a blanket $75 credit on a fixed date each quarter (ie 1st Jan, 1st Apr, 1st jul, 1oct) so energy providers would apply it based on customers at the time.
But that's assuming it's a well thought out government plan, with checks and balances, and proper implementation and oversight :)
