Using Phone Overseas for Two Years

Hello OzB community, I am going overseas for about 2 years and would like to keep receiving calls on my number if possible.

Other than paying roaming, is there a cheaper way to keep getting calls? I have considered getting a number with skype and forwarding calls for my existing number to this number. But as the setting is done on phone, I am not sure if this setting will work once my phone is not using the SIM card to avoid roaming cost.

Thanks in advance

Boost sim (telstra network) lets u make and accept calls without paying extra if u have a phone supporting vowifi
You just need to pay for your regular plan.

    • Also, surprisingly, this works with any Telstra MVNO.

As well as working over wifi, VoWifi will work over a local (e)SIM in your dual-SIM phone. No roaming fees.

    • I found it was hit and miss…

      • Many countries a total miss!

    • Thanks. I am looking at Aldi 365 day plan as it seems to be cheapest on Telstra network. Has anyone had success with Aldi in receiving calls overseas?

Using a Mobile phone Overseas – eSIM, Travel SIM, International Roaming

    • If you have a VoIP provider like Crazytel for your fixed/landline phone number, then you could divert your Australian mobile number to it, and receive (as well as make) calls via their CrazyPhone app, which also allows you to set its caller ID as your mobile number:

But as the setting is done on phone,

log into your account via their app or website

I got a Woolies long term e-SIM when overseas for most of last year. Wifi calling worked and then just bought a local SIM for wherever I happened to be at the time.
    Worked a treat.
