Feel like I pulled off a particularly OzBargainer deal for my new TV

This is purely just a recount of me trying to OzBargain the crap out of my next big purchase, lol.

So I’ve been looking to get the new LG G4 OLED 55” TV and have it wall mounted. Yes 55” because the wall isn’t that big, but still wanted the best TV at 55”. TGG.

Original cost:

LG G4 55” TV - 4195
Wall bracket - 149
TV wall mount install incl concealing cables - 268
Delivery - 26

Total - 4638

Asked live chat for discount on the TV as I saw it for $3795 a couple of weeks ago, requested that they honour that price. Then asked if I get wall bracket and the labour of the install with them, can they do a better bundle.

Revised offer:

LG G4 55” TV - 3689
Wall bracket - 109
TV wall mount install incl concealing cables - 268
Delivery - 26

Total - 4092

Then through work I get some corporate discounts, one of those is Good Guys Gift Cards at 4% off, max $5000 value. So I can buy a $4092 value gift card for 4% off = $3928

Then churning a new ANZ platinum credit card offer where if you spend $1500 in the first 3 months you get $300 cash back, and first year annual fee of $87 is waived.

Final total price = $3628

Assuming full prices, that’s $1010 off or ~22% off

Or if we assume the recently discounted price of the TV ($3795), that’s still a discount of $610 or 14% off the total price.

Think I can push it any further? Haven’t pulled the trigger yet on the online quotation.

just buy your new tv and enjoy it

    • +9

Nah man, in this climate, gotta get the best bang for buck

      • +27

Then get the G3 for $689 less?

Sometimes a stressing over a few bucks can take the shine off the enjoyment of buying a new toy ;)

        • +44

I dare say op got even bigger thrill pulling off 69,420 iq offer stack than actually enjoying the tv itself

        • +1

I recall Gina Rinehart saying those exact same words before she again bought some politician or other.
Just think, all that quibbling takes all the taste out of the champagne when she later celebrates her new purchase.

          • @iminabrons: You know Rinehart isn't a politician that is fair game to be just casually abused.

      • +14

        Best bang for buck?!

I doubt you could tell the difference between a G4 and a G1, which I’ve seen go for around the 1k mark in 55”.

        • +1

Every year they keep churning out the latest version TV.
Can barely make out the difference.

Hence the reason I bought a 65 inch Samsung S90C OLED this time.

Because the latest gee whiz bang LED TV looked almost the same as my 8 year old lowest model LED Sony.

The OP could have bought a 55 inch Samsung S90C for half the price at $1452 and would it have been terrible compared to LG G4?

Anyways as long as he is happy………..

          • +4

@techno2000: It doesn't really matter. There is still rarely something worth watching these days.

            • +5

@Bruceflix: Those damn kids and their rock and roll music!

          • -4

@techno2000: I wonder if the OP realizes that his virtue signalling brag has backfired so heavily.

            • @eccaz: Which virtue was OP signalling?

            • +1

@eccaz: I don't think virtue signalling means what you think it means.

              • @johnno07: Please enlighten me, somebody who doesn’t who can’t distinguish there/their

Would you like a second go at this sentence? XD

          • @techno2000: the S90C is probably better than the G4 lol

      • Then you shouldn’t be even getting a tv lol

      • +3

Buying a new TV!? At this time of year, at this time of day, at this part of the country, localized entirely within OzB Forums?!

      • In this climate, why not just buy 1 of these to watch youtube? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/847563

      • +1

Maybe bang for buck says buy this instead and save your $
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/848260

    • Agreed
      Trivial details

OP is obviously happy with thier deal

      • Most likely sweating to push it further and save few more bucks 😬

  • +1

good guys gift card at 4% lmao

  • +1

You can easily get TGG gift card for 10% off, or 10% value back in EDR points of Flybuys points.

    • The problem with those 10% off is a max value of 500 per card. Goodguys online only let me use 2 gift cards.

      Can you merge gift cards?

      • Sometimes you can buy high value gift cards from the actual shop, using those ultimate gift cards.

As in buy a $1000 good guys card with two $500 Tggs, then use two of them, or sometimes you can do another level up and buy a $2000 good guys card with those two thousand dollar ones.

Idk if this will work at good guys but I did it at a smaller scale with the iconic

        • i spoke with gg they said i can email them the codes they can use them on my order. they said you can use many at a time

    • Would you mind explaining how to get one with that discount? thanks

      • woolworths and coles often have deals where you get the equivalent of 10% off in rewards points. they are ultimate giftcards or for him cards ect..
also you can buy in the classifies codes from other users but do so at your own risk

  • +2

    What about cashback?

  • +8

Bruh should get an 83” for that price

  • +5

Any particular reason for the G4 over the C4?
    C4 55" is $2610

  • +1

    Good, but I’ve done better.

S95B when first released was $4,495 retail. On sale at JB for $3,995.

Had a deal of buying a matching soundbar and take 15% off both. Purchased the cheapest soundbar I could ($199) that came down to $169 + 15% off the TV again - $3,395 now.

Then Samsung had a combined TV and Soundbar cashback deal - $500 cashback from that. Total $2,895 + $169. Purchased the TV and soundbar with $3,500 worth of gift cards that I got 20 x reward points at Woolworths (35,000 QFF points)

Sold the soundbar on FB marketplace for $150.

Approx 35% off which came to $2,914 + 35,000 Qantas points.

In any case, would have got an even better deal if I just waited two years and bought the S95B for $2,000 like it was in some previous deals haha.

    • +1

That's very nicely done. I just went into the store and got another $200 off

    • +1

All that work and the S95C was ~$1400 direct from Samsung a few weeks back.

      • -1

With that logic I’ll sell you my iPhone 15 pro in 2029 for $200

        • -1

Iphone 15 pro in 2029 would be a 6 year old model even if brand new.

If you were selling your used one in 2029 its battery would be toast as well.

Samsung S90C and S95C are just 1 year old QD-OLED models.

          • @techno2000: Apples for apples. I bought the S95B within a month of release.

Go find me a 65” S95D for 35% off and 35,000 Qantas points in the next month. I’ll await your reply.

            • @Pelicannn: I didn't realise that you did so soon after release. That is very good work then.

              • @samyall: Yup. I’d be less chuffed with myself if it was a last year’s model etc. I’ll be stoked if I can do similar on the next tv I buy in 5 years time haha

      • That was for a 55” not a 65”.

      • No Dolby vision.

  • +13

Ask about Half a tank of Fuel, Floor Mats and some free Steak Knives…

  • +7

That's a lot for a 55 inch TV. OLED would be sweet though.

    • +3

Too much money for a 55" to even see any noticable benefit, but each to their own

  • +6

    Misread that title

    • I fell out of my chair after

"Feel like I pulled off a particularly OzBargainer"

      • Correction: You got pulled off your chair

  • +1

Just find a friend who works at CBA and get the tv at about half price through their corporate discount.

  • +1

Well done - 22% for a new high end is a decent discount.

  • +9

I'm afraid grasshopper you appear to have only attained Certificate level in OzBargain. Diploma level members have a Bunnings PowerPass and sufficient brushless Ozito power tools to DIY the installation and save $268. Also I concur with @bloom; that's a huge spend on a tiny screen.

  • +10

Talks about most bang for buck… wastes hundreds on mounting to the wall.

  • Enjoy your wall mounts.

    • +4

      TS/DR:

The G4 comes with a wall mount.

  • -1

If you were a true OzBargainer you'd buy me a new TV too :D

  • +4

All those hoops and still havent purchased ? You seem like the person to keep on hustling and never buy the tv, then when ready its EOL and the new models are out

  • Might as well hang out for the EOFY sales.

  • +13

Over 4 grand before your "savings" for a 55" TV and you think you got a bargain as you****** insert answer**** than a 1k 55" or even a 2k 55 inch. I can't see a bargain here at all, just money being wasted.

    • +3

yeah the old look at how much i saved on this really expensive product trick, works everytime! I cant see this can be much better than a 55" TV for half the price, but not my money and process still works for anyone that wants to do the same for different product.

      • "dealer gave me a great deal on an 80k yank tank petrol guzzler ute!!! Only 75k!!! Bargain!!!"

"Cool! What advantages does it have over a 40k ute?"

        "…"

  • I find I can usually push HVN to 25% off their RRP

    • +3

Yeah but you have to go to Harvey Norman.

  • These will be part of the 30% off sale in 2 weeks.

  • +4

You know the G4 comes with a wall mount in the box right? (that's the whole point of the G series haha)

    • +1

The OP has more than one wall though…

  • If only you had the old school credit card price protection insurance can skip all the stress

  • +5

No offense but that looks like pretty standard discount well within what even most junior salesmen would be authorised to give out without a fight. The ANZ cashback also should not be included in your price calculation, that was your $300, you just decided to spend it on that, it wasn't a discount on the TV.

  • +2

You ca save thousands of dollars by not spending $4k on a 55inch TV.

Quick search on OZB says that you can get 55 inch OLED TVs from LG or Samsung from $1800 to $2000. Don't spend double because it might have smaller bezels or whatever this TV has.

    • When a mind-blowingly house-shakingly epic 100"+ projector home theatre setup can be had for under 4k, a 55" inch TV for more is pretty poor value, even if OLED and 8k.

  • +2

My biggest saving on a TV was picking up a 75 inch Sony X950H for $500…RRP at the time was $5500.

I had previously purchased a 65 inch bravia a couple of years before and just before the warranty came up I noticed a very faint line across the bottom of the picture. I emailed their customer support, and after submitting the evidence of the faint line, they agreed to replace like for like. I then asked if I could pay extra for the 75 inch and showed them the variance if I was to buy from JB was only $500…however later on I realised I quoted them the wrong model, and the variance between model sizes was actually $1000. To my surprise, they agreed to it and TV was delivered a few days later.

The kicker was they never came to pick up the TV with the faint line, so I ended up keeping it and putting it in the back living space. So I essentially purchased a flagship 75 inch Sony LED for $500

  • +10

    You bought a $3795 55INCH TV.
    LOL

  • If you have a student email, you can upgrade your account to get VIP status and VIP discount.

55inch G4 can be had delivered for $3212 - personally wouldnt pay so much for just 55inch.

  • maybe an indirect flex post…look i'm spending 3K+ on a TV! without all the backlash!

  • You could definitely have improved with the 4% gift cards. Ultimate home has TGG and has been seen regularly around 10%, sometimes 15% off.

  • For my fridge I was tossing up between new from Good Guys for a couple hundred more than factory second, leaning towards new. They matched the factory second price and included delivery so I ordered. Then there was a stuff around with actually getting the fridge and they didn't have it on the delivery date. They ended up selling me the display with even more off. I don't remember the exact amounts, but ended up being around 50% off in the end with free delivery.

  • EOFY sales are coming aren't they? To OzB, I'd get an S95B 65" or whatever is best bang for buck and a good wall mount off of Amazon and do it myself. Then in 2 years, get whatever is best bang for buck again. Rotate old TV to bedroom or whereever else in the house and if left with an extra TV, gift it to a family member or sell it.

  • +1

    Kk.
But $4k for an oled tv is a lot.

    • +3

      especially at 55inch

  • Somehow I am perfectly happy with my 55" non-fancy LED Samsung. Bought five years ago. At full retail price. Which was 25% of the price mentioned in the OP. Not being obsessed with TVs seems a pretty effective way to save money as well.

I bought a wall bracket for some random amount of change (it was 100 max), borrowed an SDS drill to mount it, and spent maybe $10 on a plastic conduit to manage the cabling neatly.

  • -3

    You sir, are a legend.

This is the true spirit of Ozbargain.

  • +3

meh - you could have got the Samsung 55" S90C OLED for less than $1500 in the recent deals on the Samsung website or on JB hi fi.
In my view, you haven't saved $1000, you burnt over $2000. BAD OZBargainer.

  • Dont buy - $4k saved

  • pff, just buy a samsung off your friends EPP

  • +1

Spending 4k on a tv you have issues.

    • +2

I'd get it if it was a 85 inch or something, maybe if you are really really into watching movies with the best cinematic experience…
But on a 55" tv? when you can spend less than half for something 100% equivalent? Seriously lol

  • Seems like an absurd amount of money for a TV.

Here's what I did the other week.
    $299 hisense TV delivered
$35 roof mount bracket from amazon
    $30 in wiring (shhh)
    $10 for a HDMI cable
Leftover screws from a renovation into the roof, so lets say $2.

$376 + whatever the fire stick cost.
Even if you account for the 2 echos I've got providing stereo sound because the speakers are shit….you're still at like $600 if you paid full price.
