Would probably be useful to include the length in the title. Good deal!

172 metres Oregon Gatorline Heavy-Duty Trimmer Line $61.30 Delivered @ Amazon AU

  • Will this fit a Ryobi One line trimmer?

    • +3

No, it takes 2mm. Any bigger and the speed is too low and it doesnt cut very well

  • FWIW I bought the Oregon 2.4 mm / .095 inch line for my Stihl trimmer and found it very underwhelming.

Paying extra for the Stihl branded stuff is worth it for me.

edit- just looked up what I bought and it was the Oregon 20-020 Magnum Gatorline Supertwist Trimmer Line

  • Tried this in the EGO carbon fibfre Whipper Snipper, basically ended up uo throwing it. Not powerful enought to spin such a heavy line.

  • +3

Definitely not for everyone. We live in the bush and have a Honda UMK425 which has enough power to spin this. But for lighter duty whipper snippers, this is never going to work and probably overkill for edging and so on.

    • How does it actually go though? I run 2.4mm on my UMS425 (bent shaft but understand same engine) and the local mower shop says they're spec'd for 2mm as standard.

I've been using this line for over a year, runs fine, never had an issue with it. Way better than other cheap lines I had tried.

When I looked into line size years ago, there was a lot of conflicting information out there. I ran some 3mm (different brand, smaller quantity) in it for a while, which was fine, and then jumped on this stuff.

Although the Stihl orange mentioned below, looks better than this in terms of price. Assuming it's a similar quality, I might give that a go next.

    • I use this commercially with my UMK425 and it is excellent

      • How well does it handle cutting grass against wire fences?

    • I love my Honda UMK425 and UMK435.

I use 2.7mm of this line. Cuts through weeds like button.

I buy Stihl orange line it's 2.4mm and 420 metres for $77 in mitre 10. Just soak it in water for 24 hours to hydrate the line .

    • +2

Noob question, why do you soak it in water?

      • +3

Makes it more flexible so it doesn't snap as much

  • Anyone know if this suits the Makita 36V multitool whipper snipper attachment? Not sure if the 36V will struggle with this, referring to other comments. Thanks

Damn I thought this was printer filament
