We have a dedicated $100 second hand tab with 360 degree IR blaster that does this job

    • Care to elaborate?

      • You can get a IR remote that connects via Google home and use it to control anything that doesn't have wifi.

Most appliances that have wifi, usually are integratable to google home.

I really wanted something like Harmony but with them discontinuing it and no further updates, ended up having a dedicated 8inch tab and use it as Home Automation and Google home remote.

        • OK, so for the software you're just using google home? Is it just the basic operations? I've got an ir blaster but haven't tried any software yet.

          • @buellersdayoff: Your it needs to.be compatible with Google home or Alexa.

GH works well for me as I have speakers all over the home so.voice command also works well

    • @abs898 and also controls Bluetooth and WIFI devices from a single app?

      • 99% is operated via the Google home App or voice as it's integrated.

All ZigBee integrate into Google Home, including the IR blaster. For every devices added to the blaster it comes to the same Google home app

Google home lol, that is not replacing the Harmony Elite anytime soon.

          • @Jessie Ryder: It's not but you are commenting on a SofaBaton which isn't Harmony either or close to it

            • @abs898: We are all looking for the Harmony replacement, but telling people you have a $100 tablet doing this job is not correct.

IR blaster yes, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi no.

The SofaBaton doesn't get good reviews from ex-Logitech Harmony users on reddit. I mean it's currently the best universal remote option with a proper remote and not an app … but it's the only current universal remote option. I'm dreading the day my Harmony Elite stops working.

      Yeah, bugger you Logitech.

I'm still relying on my Harmony One from 11 years ago. Please don't die on me đŸ˜¬

    • I'm dreading the day my Harmony Elite stops working.

There are second hand ones on eBay. Sold history suggests you can pick one up of $200-$250. Some with skins so less gross. But there's that.

    • Yep, I hope my Harmony One's dont ever die.

  • I've been watching this at Amazon for the past few weeks as my Harmony Elite is on its last legs. This offer seems to pop up every few days, so don't be too worried if you missed out tonight.
The lack of a touch screen, especially for TV channels (as I understand it, you have to set each one up separately as an activity), has stopped me going ahead. Soon I may have no choice. :\

The lack of a touch screen, especially for TV channels (as I understand it, you have to set each one up separately as an activity), has stopped me going ahead.

Not exactly. Once you have an activity setup (eg. "Watch TV", "Listen to Music") you can set up "Keys favourite" (the app UI is definitely janky) which show up on the screen on the remote when you click into the activity. These can either be straight button presses from any of the devices configured or macro keys combining multiple keys, delays, and holds, from any device.

I've the original X1. I actually prefer the feel of this over the old Harmony. The buttons in general feel nicer, as does the remote. The app (on Android) is not very polished. And the scroll wheel sometimes gets confused between up and down. But overall it's pretty solid. Also has some interesting features like an API endpoint for the hub so you could trigger the remote from other devices on your network.

  • I have one of these - they are good, and a good replacement for the harmony elite I had. I don't like that devices and activities don't sync to the cloud, so there is currently to save/backup/restore your config between other Sofabaton devices. Other than that, I would recommend this.

  • Hey can anyone help me with the cheapest solution to just have a remote blast certain IR combinations that I can just teach?

    • Plenty of IR ZigBee blasters for $20 that's integrate into Google home

If you are handy enough, you can also DIY a universal remote like this one https://hackaday.io/project/191752-omote-diy-universal-remot…

  • I bought this "thing" a couple of years ago and found the setup software utter garbage. I'd set up an activity on my ipad and sync the info to the remote (which is seriously short of command buttons like a firestick remote with a small window for devices) and the settings just wouldn't sync and I don't want to walk around with a mobile phone or ipad to work the TV etc.

The other issue is with the hub it has to be placed somewhere which gives it a view of the devices it's to operate - not possible in our home as we don't have a coffee table or similar between where we sit to view TV.

So underwhelmed was I by the massive probs I encountered 2-3 years ago, I'm very reticent to unpack it all again, load it up with latest software to try it again. Instead I'm sticking with a trusty Harmony 645 in conjunction with TV's CEC control.

    • I'm interested in some actual feedback, but this "thing" wasn't released a couple of years ago.

      SofaBaton X1S is new.

  • This appears to be available again, I just ordered with the additional 10% discount.
