I was in an Indian Grocery Store to buy groceries and wanted Dawat rice, and it was $26.95 and just thought of comparing the price and found the discount. Enjoy

Price matching Coles special, for those without prime / when Amazon sell out.

    • Is this rice better than than cotton sack basmati they sell?

      • Yes, much better.

        • OK thanks I will go this one from now on. I don't suppose you know if it has a better GI count (lower) than the cotton boys? Or what do you base the comparison on. Taste and texture?

Regular price at Costco for 20kg

    • Can I confirm please. 20kg of the same product is $19 at Costco? Wow!

      • Multiply by 4 to make it 20kg

Thanks Op also if you redeem the save 15 on 40 spend and get 2 bags and any $2 item brings the total to $24 including the $2 item! Win Win!

    • Didnt see the save 15 on 40……

      • It was just under the price where you had to choose redeem. For me looks like it was a one time thing as I cannot see it any more..

    • Did you used any code to get that offer?

    • nice buying soyea!

  • Very nice rice this.

      Manikya Kurachu Kanji Edukkatte?

  • is this same as daawat basmati at costco ?

    • I believe that Costco sell Chef's Secretz in the brown bag? Looking at this & this. If so, 'Chef's Secretz' is a less expensive variety, regular price $19.50 on Amazon, compared to this Select Variety, which is usually $27 at Coles/Amazon.

Although I think they are both good, perhaps someone else has a better opinion of the reason for the higher price.

The one from Amazon/Coles has a bit longer grains, whereas the Costco one has a bit shorter (comparatively) grains. Unless you are cooking Biriyani to impress someone, just go with the Costco one. You won't taste much difference between the two.

        • Thanks! Yeah I have just been buying Chef's Secretz for $19.50 at Amazon, or a dollar or 2 less from local grocers, unless the Classic is on special for $19.

  • How is this different to other basmati? $12 for 5kg at Coles

    • +7

This is a far superior rice compared to the average daily ones. This is aged and long grain with good aroma. Trick is to soak it for 30 mins and water ratio of 1:1.5 water when cooking. Best for biryani’s in my experience similar to say India gate classic.

      • I love biryani! I'm sold

      • I assume you mean the ratio is by cup not weight.

    • -3

the $12 for 5kg one shouldn't even be called basmati. Its the equivalent of "Genuine Leather"

      • nah its good enough for daily cooking where you are consuming the rice with curries. As @soyea said unless you are cooking biryani you don't need the more expensive ones

  • Looks like they had only 10 bags to sell :)

    • +1

Yes, what you've linked to is a relatively cheaper variant which isn't as good as the one in the deal.

  • This is my regular go to. Very nice rice:

But for this price with delivery, its a no brainer. Shame deal didnt last long enough.

    • That rice is terrible

  • How does this compare to alishaan super basmati?

there is also another Daawat Basmati version for $15.90

Thx ordered this somehow there was a promotion applied and cost $14.90 delivered

  • I ordered 15kg of whatever Cole’s $13 is, but was out of stock so received this instead. Very happy

  • This is quite expensive. You can buy 20kgs of Basmati rice at Costco for around 50 dollars and according to my Asian mother, its good quality too.
