      Best I can find atm is with Turkish Airlines (ex Melbourne) for around $1500. Quickest way across and avoid going through China.

      Aim for off peak time and book early. Also doesn't hurt to call the frequent flyer team directly as there are some airlines that won't show up on the website.

      PointsYeah and Seats.aero are great resources for aggregated search of award availability.
      But generally it's waaaay harder to find availability than it was pre-Covid. Off-peak and book early as OP said, but in some rare cases there's a bit of last minute availability these days too if you're flexible. For example Etihad only open their biz class awards to Virgin Velocity a month prior.

      Very early December (departing before 5th) and after Australia Day in Jan. Won't find any deals during school holidays and Xmas time unfortunately as everyone wants to travel during then.
