There is no downtime. Telstra and Aussie BB use the same IPoE protocol. You might lose access to Telstra's 4G failover.

          • +2

@Twix: Lost the network last night on opticomm, plugged in my old Telstra smart modem and it still connected to the 4G network as a backup for the night.

My understanding is there is no account associated with the 4G Sim but is capped at 12gb.

  • Finally available to get the fttp upgrade but I'm a business customer, wonder if they'll allow me to switch from business to residential and honour the deal.

Currently paying $105 for their 100/40 plan but only get 55mbps because haven't upgraded to fttp yet.

Would make sense to upgrade/switch to the residential 1000/50 plan for an extra $4

Business sales team are out of hours and the business support guy couldn't help with that other than saying yes you can now get the fttp upgrade 😬

Guess I'll have to call during business hours.

Way to reward your high paying exisiting 1000/50 customers it doesn't seem like we get a discount. I wish NBN would fix their upload speeds.

    • +4

nbn are proposing this. The upload is still not the best but I'll take it.

      Old Speed New Speed
      100/20 500/50
      250/25 750/50
      1000/50 1000/100
      • will happen mid 2025

        • nbn article says within 12 months which makes it March 2025 or earlier. I haven't heard anyone say mid 2025.

      • Launtel seems to be the only one with 250/100 that I could find, unless others have seen otherwise?

        • +1

Leaptel and Future Broadband do 250/100 without an ABN. FTTP only.

    • am i mistaken that there is absolutely nothing technical from blocking them to offer symmetrical up/down speed?
1000/1000 has been common else where in the world for over decade

      • nbn FTTP uses GPON which is asymmetrical. nbn have tested FTTP 8Gbps symmetrical on XGS-PON and 20Gbps symmetrical on 25GS PON. I doubt we will get symmetrical speed tiers for residential nbn anytime soon. Today nbn proposed 2000/200 for FTTP.

NBN Co accelerates multi-gigabit speed talks with retailers
NBN Co achieves 20 Gbps speeds in live network technical trials

        • It's so frustrating. Symmetrical connections provide an opportunity for us to make the most of our internet service. For example, GPON offers 2.4 Gbps downstream and 1.2 Gbps upstream, so why can't they at least offer 2000/1000? I can't help but wonder if ISPs have pressured the government to prevent nearly symmetrical connections, allowing them to upsell the symmetrical ones.

          • +1

@GenerallyClumsy: I'm not sure why they don't do something like 2000/1000. nbn are still keeping symmetrical for nbn enterprise ethernet.

  • How quick is the switchover from Leaptel to ABB?

    • It should be less than 1 hour. Maybe 20-30 minutes.

      • Thanks, when's the best time to do the swap in terms of billing?
I'm 10 days into the new cycle but billing doesn't occur for 2 more days.

        • A day or two before your next bill and on a weekday.

          • @Twix: Someone else said ABB refund you the back pro rata? So it shouldnt matter when you switch over

From the ABB Website - https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/help-centre/accounts-and-…

            Do you offer pro-rata closures?
Yes, we do. You can request a pro-rata closure with our team when closing the account.

            • @colt75: Yeah Aussie BB does but I don't think Leaptel do.

              • +1

@Twix: Oh my bad i read it wrong way around haha.
I was worried for a second as im switching from ABB to Leaptel

will apartment blocks that have FTTB ever get faster than 100/40?

Been using 100/40 for almost 7yrs now and its starting to get boring

    • It won't be soon. Maybe after 2026.

      • thats way too long 😥

        • Is moving an option?

          • @Twix: no, we are planning to buy there and moving in permanently.

Do you know much about G-fast?

            • @Homr: nbn tested G.Fast for FTTC and never released it.

              • @Twix: Do you know if i switch over to TPG FTTB, I will get 150/50 speeds?

                https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9xv65yr6

                • @Homr: If your building has access to TPG FTTB you might get faster speeds. This is not the same as nbn FTTB using TPG.

                  • @Twix: Interesting, thanks. Yes, i just did an address search and it said th is

                    Congratulations
Fibre to the Building is available at your address
Alternatively nbn® and Home Wireless Broadband are also available in your area

                    I'll be happy with 150/50

For anyone with Opticomm, ABB is charging $109 connection fee now. (which they used to absorb before)

    • Most providers are apparently. Everyone used to absorb it.

Uniti is 99/month for 6 months, but new customers only, and connection fee kills that too.

  • Bugger, I'm already on 1000/25. I tried downgrading but the change doesn't happen until the next billing cycle in 16 days and by then, the code will probably be expired.

Did anyone successfully get it done by phone?

  • Sure they are reputable but still overpriced compared to other companies

  • Pretty dog of them to exclude customers who have downgraded. The only reason I downgraded to 100/40 was because their previous promo for 1000/50 expired.

  • +1

"for 12 months" the worst line in history

  • +1

EOFY is saying Promo/referral code invalid?

    • Put EOFY240.

      • sorry, that's what I put in but the error came up

        • I just tested it and it works. Have you been with Aussie BB in the last 6 months or downgraded your speed in the last 6 months?

          • +1

@Twix: UP240 works even I downgraded a month ago with last promo ended.

  • what is the option to add static ip address? Is the 1000/50 plan good for working from home?

    • Static IP is $5/month. It depends what your job is.

  • I'm with SuperLoop, 100/20, just coming to the end of their 6 month, $70 plan, now going up to $85pm.
Any recommendations/reference to another ISP who has a nice deal going for around $60-$70 without a massive speed cut?

    • Call up SL and ask for the same deal for another 6 months. If not transfer to Exetel (SL own them) or Leaptel. Exetel and SL ask for 30-days cancellation notice.

      • +1

        Oh, crap, good to know.
Thanks, I'll have to factor that in. It doesn't hurt to ask. If not I'll make the leap to Leapel or exit to Exetel. 😝

  • as an existing Aussie Broadband 1000/50 customer, what is a good ABB alternative?

    • Superloop, Leaptel and Launtel.

  • just switched from ABB to Leaptel, very happy with the process. easy as, and the speeds on Leaptel are suprisingly quicker than ABB.

ABB Offered a 12 month discount of $20 as a retention offer, but i declined as leaptel was still cheaper.
    Connected in 12 hours

  • Got my upgrade done and it is very underwhelming. Before on my 100/40 plan I was regularly getting 105-110/35-45. Basically never saw it below that. On the 1000/50 yesterday I got 75/25, and today I'm getting 115-125/30-35. FTTP btw. Definitely glad I'm not paying the extra $25 for it, that's for sure.

    • You should be getting 900-980Mbps. Not all routers are capable of Gigabit even though they have a Gigabit port.

      1. What router are you using?
      2. What device are you using? phone, PC?
      3. Do you have some old QoS settings still enabled?
      4. What colour is the UNI-D light on the nbn box?
      5. Are you getting 125Mbps on Wi-Fi or ethernet?
        1. Google Nest
        2. PC
        3. No
        4. Flashing green
        5. Ethernet

edit: Just tried on my phone and got 479Mbps down, 47Mbps up so that's a big improvement.

edit again: pc getting 350/47 now

        • +1

Google Nest Wi-Fi is capable of a maximum of around 920Mbps on Ethernet and up to around 650Mbps on Wi-Fi 5.

A green UNI-D light means 100Mbps. The UNI-D light should be orange for 1000Mbps. You might need a new Ethernet cable between the nbn NTD box and Nest Wi-Fi. A factory reset of Nest Wi-Fi can fix speed problems.

          • +1

@Twix: Hmm it could be yellow, not 100% sure, which would mean 1Gbps. Thanks for the tip, I'll see if changing to a new ethernet cable changes the colour of it, and look at it at night so i can see the colour more easily.

  • LOL THEY CHARGE $109 FOR CONNECTION FEE, NO THANK YOU
I went with uniti internet, they processed very fast, only $99/m for 6months, 1st month free and no connection fee much better deal

    • Yeah this deal is more for new/existing NBN customers and existing OptiComm customers. The new connection fee is from OptiComm and most ISPs pass it on. Uniti are probably absorbing it because they own OptiComm.

  • I am coming from Superloop and just signed up today for connection tomorrow. I haven't actually called Superloop yet to cancel on their end, which I'll do on Monday.

My question is, will the new ABB 1000mbps connection override the 100mbps Superloop? Or will it only be provided once Superloop stops?

    • +1

FTTP: Aussie BB normally put your connection on another port. Move the ethernet cable on the nbn box to the new port. Call up Superloop to cancel.

HFC: Aussie BB will override the Superloop connection and Superloop automatically gets cancelled.

      • Thank you for the reply. HFC it is. There is only one out port on the box anyway.

But I'll still need to contact Superloop to cancel, right? Or Superloop will just bill the remainder and stop billing afterwards?

        • +1

Superloop should send a cancellation email after the connection changes to Aussie. If they don't call up Superloop to confirm.

          • @Twix: Thanks mate!

            • @sh4hp: I hope you are aware that Superloop have a 30 day cancellation notice requirement in their terms, so even if you cancel tomorrow they may still charge you for the next 30 days. Hence it would be more ideal to start your ABB connection in 30 days, and tell Superloop now that you will be cancelling.

              • @wangasm: I see. I'll have to call ABB and Superloop then.

  • The NBN is increasing wholesale prices starting July 1, 2024. As a result, internet service providers will also raise their prices. I recommend securing a deal on a high-speed tier while it's discounted, as the low-speed tiers will see a larger price increase.

  • I'm looking to swap out from Superloop, promo expired and their service/product has been poor aka shite. (250 here).
Micro-drops a few times a day at least, more telecom rarely happened just slowed at night.

Thinking about ABB, though bit spooked re people's reviews here.Heard leaptel popup a few times.
Thoughts on which way to go? looking for 250 speed

    cheers

    • Aussie BB is good when you can get a deal. What are you spooked about?

      • +1

ah thanks, I was all for trying ABB in the past though the reviews of late (and here) have been binning their throughput and service

        • +1

CVC was removed on 100Mbps and above speed tiers in December. If anything speeds have improved. They have plenty of spare capacity. Check for yourself here. There is no contract so you can leave whenever. Are you on FTTP or HFC?

          • +1

@Twix: Thanks for the info, HFC here might give the shot. I didn't know that re cvc changes. cheers 👍

  • +1

Just for anyone this may help.

I've just been upgraded from business 100/40 FTTN to Business 1000/50 FTTP Month to Month no contract for the same price I'm paying $105 with Static IP.

Just had to call them and ask and they get manager approval.

So didn't need to switch from business to residential to take advantage.

  • A lot of people on here big up Leaptel but since I've been with them I have been unable to achieve speeds above 450mbps on a 1000/50 plan and just got slugged for a $15 late fee I wasnt aware of. Will pay the extra $10 if offering and service are good. ABB used to be great when on standard nbn a few years back but seem to be getting worse rep as they grow.

Are they still worth the change?

    • +1

Aussie are not getting worse. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15294799/redir

Not all routers are capable of Gigabit even though they have a Gigabit port.

      1. What router are you using?
      2. What device are you using? phone, PC?
      3. Have you spoken to Leaptel support?
        1. MikrotiK rb4011, more than capable
          2 both
3 I did do a support ticket, Leaptel have ignored it up to now, no response at all since 5 days.

Think I need to move on already

  • +1

I have been with Aussie for a long time and have been on the top tier plan for a while so none of these promotional discounts are available to me. That being said, an agent from the live chat said it might be worth calling the retention team to sort something out. I just got off the phone with them and within 5 minutes a bloke on the other end gave me the $20 monthly discount for 12 months. Quite happy with the result.

    • +1

Same here - got offered an initial $6 discount from the level 2 superviser, when I said that is a bit of an insult, I'm going to leave and go to SuperLoop / Leaptel, he put me through to the retention team.

The guy in the retention team explained that the initial sales people aren't authorised to do anything with existing customers, and said that they'd happily give me the $20 discount for 12 months since I've been with them since 2016. He said when that 12 month period expires, call them up, use option 1, option 4, which should get through to the retention team straight away and they'll look at matching any current deals from other providers.

Will take him up on that in a year - happy with $109 for 12 months for 1000/50 FTTP connection.

  • Does anyone knows the best Opticomm provider for 25/10 or 50/20 please? Planning to switch from my current provider as its to exxy. Thanks..

    • +1

AussieBB are good it's just a matter of the price and if you're happy with that.

      • Thanks bud!
