Creality Ender 3 V3 SE (Direct Drive, Auto Level) $249 Delivered / C&C / in-Store @ Jaycar

1350

This is a super price on a very capable, entry-level 3D printer. It's the perfect choice for those looking to dive into the world of 3D printing without breaking the bank. I bought at its RRP of $349 and was very happy with it at that price, but at $249 this printer is a steal!

From my experience, it prints quite well out of the box, but like with pretty much all 3D printers, expect that some tinkering will be required.

Features:

  • CR-Touch for easy bed levelling
  • Nozzle temperature: up to 260°C
  • Filament compatibility: PLA, PETG, TPU
  • Heated bed: up to 100°C
  • Typical printing speed: 180mm/s
  • Extruder: Sprite direct drive
  • Build volume: 220x220x250mm

      • This really isn't the case anymore. I've noticed that the old Enders really left a bad taste in people's mouths - and I agree, I remember fighting with my work's old CR-10. However, this generation of Creality printers really have added a lot of the quality of life upgrades that make this a "print and walk away" printer. The printer comes with a declogging tool, btw.

        • +1

even my cr6-se which had a gantry levelling issue (amongst other issues) that i didnt diagnose for many, MANY hours with the help of @Lizard Spock did actually product some decent prints out of the box even with the crappy included creality filament

      • +1

It can be setup with your first successful print done in under an hour. You do not have to do any calibrating that it doesn't do itself automatically.
Zero issues with clogging, calibrating or the ender as a whole.

    • Something to store the filament in because if he opens all the filament at once it'll be useless in a month or two from water absorption, either the waterproof tub from Bunnings (or a bunch of 5l Sistema containers with the rubber seal) or if you want to be fancy a dry box from Amazon/similar.

  • Great printer at this price.

  • Wow OP is quite the lurker. Joined 2011, and it is their first deal, and only has left 3 comments prior to today.

    1 comment every ~4 years.

    • +6

Haha I'll be due to post another deal in 2037

  • +7

I can 100% confirm this is the best bang for buck 3D Printer available.
I bought it during the last $250 special at Jaycar about 4 months ago.

You can make some pretty incredible things!
I've printed and pieced together a fully functional, 33% scale EJ20 Boxer engine with this printer as seen here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2451310

Here she is. She isn't pretty but it's the real deal!

    • +1

      Nice one!!

    • Hi Alco. Just wondering roughly how much something like that engine would cost to do? Would love to do something like that for my Dad mechanic. Thanks

    • Umm thats awesome!

  • +1

As someone who bought this same printer for the same price from the same retailer back in January can honestly highly recommend!

  • +1

I have to trade in my Ender 3 V2… sick of the fiddling

    • Same here - stuffing around trying to level it is too much effort

Maybe I'll whack it up for 50 bucks on marketplace coz I feel like that's all it's going to be worth 😂

  • Thanks, have ordered, complete noob with 3d printing. What filament should I buy for this?

    • +2

Stick to PLA until you get comfortable, it's a very forgiving filament!

  • +2

I pulled the trigger on this, been on the fence for what feels like a decade.

I have tried to find some lists of "upgrades", if anyone has recommendations and/or links to buy I would greatly appreciate it.

I already got this stuff coming from China already.

    https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006086294137.html?spm=a2g…

    https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005002571417570.html?spm=a2g…

    https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006821514679.html?spm=a2g…

And I have a Raspberry Pi 4 that I will slap Ocoprint onto.

I live in a humid part of Oz so not sure how I need to store filament :-|

    • just store in a tub with dessicant

    • Filament driers that have opening to feed the filament out straight into the machine are a godsend for humidity control.

    • There's a printed version of the supporting rods from printables which work well - https://www.printables.com/cs/model/705295-creality-ender3-v…

    • Ordered the stabiliser setup. thanks for the link.

    • Which magnetic sheet did you pick? I got no idea what the differences are.

  • Hi, n00b here, really thinking of buying this.
Could someone give a list of other necessary accessories and filaments etc which work well with this, thinking of getting it all together. Thanks!

    • Same boat here. Read something about a different magnetic sheet to make removal of the print easier. But not a clue if where to look for it.

      Any help someone?

    • +1

      Beginner
      * Steel springs for the bed
      * regular PLA and silk PLA is okay with this
      * smooth PEI sheet for printing PETG

      Advanced
      * hardened steel nozzle for anything with glow in the dark, marble, wood, carbon fibre
      * enclosure for ABS / ASA
      * Raspberry Pi for Klipper (different firmware, more customisation for speed, vibrations and leveling)
      * Sprite Pro for up to 300*C
      * z axis extender
      * dual z axis steppers
      * linear rails
      *

      • may as well buy Ender 3 V3 KE, it has most of those advanced mods already for $200 more

  • Found same item on ebay for same price here…
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256499775503?chn=ps&_ul=AU&norov…

    • Same seller (Jay Car electronics) yea- could be good if used in combination with some other discount or CB

      • +2

$20 off with TECHMAY but $12 shipping so $8 off

        • Covers delivery and a bit more nicee

        • True Ozbargainer. Can click and collect to save $12 or not…
          Edit: tried still charges $12…

          • @thegiantpanda: yeah, the C&C is not a Jaycar C&C but a delivery C&C so it still charges you $12.

  • Purchased - Thank you!

  • +2

Holy crap, the original build plate sticks to the prints way too much. Definitely get a PEI plate

    • which did you buy?

  • Bringing my Ender 3v2 to this level by adding the Sprite pro and CR touch cost me 150 so this is a bargain.

Should be able to print up to ASA if you get an enclosure but recommend steel springs for the bed, rewiring the electronics outside of the enclosure and by upgrading to Klipper to improve speed and quality.

    • You need to upgrade to all metal heatbreak to be able to print ABS or ASA reliably.

      • Ahh didn't see this was just the regular sprite

  • +4

    Quick review -

    • Very happy with the printer. Print quality is great for $249.
    • I used Orcaslicer and created a custom profile as the default Ender 3 V3 SE profile in Orca is a way too slow.
    • Cover the print bed with blue glue stick to create a barrier to easily remove prints. If not, PLA sticks too well and can easily damage the print bed surface. I suggest buying a PEI plate from Aliexpress.
    • Only 10 - 15 minutes to build the printer and start printing.
    • I recommend printing the stabiliser bars or purchasing the stabiliser bars from Aliexpress. The gantry is quit thin and the bolts are only M3, so quite narrow.
    • Eek - first print with a big base and it's totally suck haha…

Will try glue next time… if I can get it off

      • +3

Take the magnetic sheet off and flex it slightly. Shouldn't need gluestick for PLA

        • Thanks so much! A quick google lead me to the same solution - had no idea it came off.

I then had some excess residue? kind of like a stand for the 'feet' and had to take off the sheet and hairdry it and peel it off.

Thanks for helping all us newbs! 8 yr old son is loving it. I feel like he believes in humanity again haha

  • Does this come with any filament in the box? Just a sample amount to start with.

    • +1

      Yes

    • +2

Yep, about 200grams of white PLA

    • Thanks for your replies ❤️

  • +1

Bought one, see so may cool things online that I want to print. Have no idea what the hell i’m doing but should keep me entertained and maybe I can print something for the kids

    • That's a great place to start. I bought this same model earlier in the year and have enjoyed printing fun oddities for myself and my niece and nephew

  • I've been 3D printing for roughly 6 years now, 5.5 years with the first gen Ender 3, and about half a year with a BambuLab P1S. (with AMS)

If I was looking to get into 3D printing today, I would probably just save my money and skip the Ender and just buy a BambuLab A1.

If the A1 is too expensive, my next choice would be the A1 Mini, and I would just take the build space downgrade, which would be annoying, but still my preferred place to start.

    Why?

Because in my experience, because 3D printers take a certain amount of tinkering to get working correctly. You will experience failed prints, things that break or stop working and need repairs, you will need to upgrade parts for different reasons, and all of these things take a certain amount of tinkering.

With BambuLab printers, it's widely known that they require a lot less of this effort, not zero effort, but WAY less effort and tinkering.

Starting out with a Ender 3 was cheap, and I certainly learned a lot about 3D printing, because simply put, I experienced soo many different things that could go wrong… So for those reasons, starting out with an Ender is great and all… But I feel like the novelty wears thin over time, and you just get sick of tinkering, and you want to focus on the fun part of 3D printing, which is for me, the actual creation process.

Not meaning to sound like a shill for Bambu or anything, but man they got it right.

That said, I have heard the newer Ender models are far superior to the first gen Ender 3 that I used for years… So YMMV greatly.

TL;DR personally if I was starting out 3D printing again today, my first choice would be a BambuLab A1, second would be an A1 Mini, 3rd? Maybe something from Prusa.

    • +5

yes a Bambu is an ideal starting point, but this Ender 3 outside of the same name is a completely different printer from an Ender 6 years ago.

      • Auto bed levelling with Z-offset calculation (no springs)
      • direct drive extruder
      • improvements in slicers

Far less tinkering and printer mods required to get started.

      • +1

Yeah look, @impoze, @Gehirn, and @RADICALIST you're all honestly right. For this price point. You probably can't beat this deal, I guess if you're only wanting to spend $250 on a printer, then look no further.

        I did also mention:

I have heard the newer Ender models are far superior to the first gen Ender 3 that I used

So I'm acknowledging that it's not apples to apples.

    • +4

I have not had to tinker with this at all and I have printed a variety of things.

All these recommendations in this thread that you should buy a 3D printer 2-5x the price of this are meaningless when it's based on comparing to Enders from 5+ years ago and not this one released in late 2023 with all its additional features.

    • +2

Not everyone is willing to throw $600+ on a printer which may gather dust after a few prints.

Ender 3 V3 SE is a great starter printer and won't hurt the back pocket as much as a Bambu or a rip off Prusa.

  • Is this compatible with a Mac?

    • +1

Yes, orcaslicer and other slicer software is available on mac and pc.

  • +1

Doing my first 3d print now - this is heaps of fun. Was super easy to assemble and setup and print (using USB-C and Ultimaker Cura and Thingiverse). Some youtuber suggested the 'max' settings on the device should be downgraded because they mess up the print (speed: 4000,4000,4000,4000 => 500,500,100,1000). I assume this auto-leveling thing is awesome because it sounds awesome.

  • +2

Pulled the trigger, looking forward to getting into printing with this.

  • How loud & smelly is this thing? Can I run it in the night in my living room?

    • they are not 'quiet' but not screechingly loud.

      • Fan noise
      • various robotic type beeping sounds, stepper motors,
      • motor sounds as it's moving around at high speeds.

Watch some videos to get an idea

With the smell, it depends on the material type, but you would probably want to either enclose it or make sure there is good ventilation.

Currently the online official Creality store is offering the exact same deal of A$249.00 with free shipping in Australia.

Jaycar now has an extra 25% off, so this comes down to $186.75! Discount applied in checkout.

    • wowz

    • can't find an option to cancel :(
      anyone able to help?

      • ring up your store

      • i bought this a week ago at $249. Checking with them if they can reimburse the difference

        • Otherwise can you rebuy and return with first invoice

          • @impoze: good point! will try that if they can't help me with my initial request.

            • @jklmai: let us know how you go, have a friend who also bought last week.

    • Thanks for the post mate. Was tempted at $250 when I saw the deal a few days ago but was still on the fence. Came back here a couple hours ago to see your post and jumped on it. My local store was out of stock by now but got free delivery :)

    • +1

It looks like the list price is back to $349

      • Ah good for those who got it in time.

Can someone report the deal expired, i've used up my report.

    • Sale price is over so it's back to $349 before discount.

      • I ordered click n collect at $186 and there were 3 or 4 on the floor at OConnor (WA) when I picked it up this afternoon.. they pile still had the $249 sticker/price. There were heaps of posters saying 25% off everything but I don't know if that excludes other sale prices, I imagine it does. The guy I spoke said it was an error online to double dip the discounts so I got lucky. Anyway $249 is still cheaper than $349 minus 25% for any interested in WA.

        • yep, got it in time.

  • Bought it and it's vanished in delivery. Currently trying to deal with Jaycar and Border Express and nobody has answers.

  • anyone bought PEI bed or got some recommended links

  • +1

Picked mine up today, set it up in around 10 minutes.
Auto levelled, and running the cat test print.

Cranked the speed up to 200% and it looks fine.

I've got Klipper ready to go, so will give that a spin later tonight.

Not sure where to share this, but totally underestimated how good a 3D printer would be for us. Son loving what we can do.

For those with Gravitrax (think cool marble run with expansion sets): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4816549

Printing it now, but can't find the exact motor locally so going to take a while to get it from China :(

    • +1

Also check printables and makerworld for 3d models

      • Thanks @impoze. Appreciate all the help/resources!

        • Get onto Orcaslicer as well, it has built in profiles to get you going too

          • +1

@impoze: Thanks, yep, glad I went straight to Orcaslicer after seeing it mentioned here somewhere. Made it so much easier.
Also did a quick Google of what Creality offered and reviews were mixed with most people saying go for Orcaslicer.

Thanks again - hope all this helps others too who are new to all this.

          • @impoze: What does Orcaslicer offer over Cura? Been using Cura since day one (4+ years) but happy to look at changing I suppose.

            • +1

@sarakoth: New slicing features and developments
The interface and direct integration with printers, klipper, octoprint etc
              Plenty more

  • +2

it's in stock and back to $249 again. They waited until the 25% promo finished.

    Can someone report it available.

  • +3

Just wanted to say thanks OP.. this is a great improvement on my Ender 3 Pro.. like chalk and cheese… I will now repurpose my old one to be a laser engraver. The improvements over the original Enders is significant and looks like and actual finished commercial product. I really don't know what the other 3 or 4 creality models at JayCar have over this for a lot more money other than a few fancy features which don't really improve print quality.. So far I am very happy.

  • +2

Who's having fun with their new printer?

I have started printing a heap of "Gridfinity" stuff to organise my took boxes.

It would be great to be able to print custom pelican cases to store gadgets but this printer probably isn't big enough to print full size ones. Now I have started down a dangerous path.

I underestimated how much fun this was going to be.

  • if anyone is after a printer at the 25% off price in Sydney, check out this classified listing

    • Did you still have this?

      • all gone sorry, I'm sure it will be around $185 again with the next eBay sale.
Otherwise, jump straight into an A1 or A1 mini with the current sale

        • Yep. They have it on the creality ebay store also with discount so bought it.
Will be my first hurrah with 3D printing so I am sure will have lots of questions - thanks! :)

  • +2

Just reporting back after using the printer for a week.

Coming from an Anycubic Mega S from a few years ago, I'm very impressed by how far the machines have come.

Assembly done in 10 minutes, auto level & z-offset done and off and printed the cat sample file. I then did a 45 minute Benchy

I've got it running on Klipper, using an old SFF but could easily do it on a raspberry pi or other machine. It's tuned amazingly and prints even better and faster than stock.

For a first printer, it's a great buy at the $249 sale price but at $187.50 it's a must buy, even if you ran it on stock firmware.

    Notes
    • Order a PEI bed - stock bed is very sticky, give it a wipe with IPA to clean it up.
    • Use Orca Slicer - has V3 SE presets ready, faster development and features for slicing up your files.
    • I have to learn and tinker with klipper. I’ve been printing PETG on the Ender and PLA alongside on the A1. Lots of stringing with PETG - not sure if the filament needs to be dried or my settings.

      • do you get stringing with the same roll of PETG on the A1?

Just do the retraction test from Orca
