  • Only 9% off but pretty good value and cheap anyway.
Assume this is a Mako I? The model line up is quite confusing for these but thought New type including sapphire crystal is Mako II & III)?

Doesn't mention it on the Amazon page but I'd spend a bit more and get one with sapphire crystal perhaps.

You don't really need sapphire crystal.

My SKX's have mineral glass and havent had any issues at all.

Worst case if you do damage it then you can replace it cheaply.

Mineral can take impact more better than sapphire but it is more prone to heavy scratches which i have not experienced yet

      • You don't really need a watch either, this hobby isn't about need.

        Yeah yeah scratch not shatter.
Depends how long you intend on keeping it but sapphire keeps it looking new for a lot longer.

Anyway go for it, $200 cheap. I paid 350$ for a new sapphire one from Amazon, they do come on sale.

I've had a few mineral glass watches for around 10-15 years. No issues to date and i wear it several times a week to work and on holiday trips.

Mineral glass doesnt scratch that easily.

Dont think its worth the extra $150-200 to go Sapphire.

You're more likely to hit the bezel or case before you hit the glass from experience.

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: Same, I've got plenty of hardlex watches.
Just depends on budget, nothing wrong with spending less.

As I said my teal Mako with sapphire was only $115 more. Depends what you want and your patience.

@G-rig: lol u paid $500 for a hardlex watch about 15 minutes ago

              • @rosebank: Yes 😂👍.
I don't mind it just saying those orients aren't expensive anyway. You have to go to a king turtle or sumo to get sapphire in the Seiko divers. Anyway it's easy enough to upgrade to sapphire at a later date if it does happen to get scratched, but I'm fairly careful with stuff.

                • +1

@G-rig: Hardlex is fine. The only one I own that's moderately scratched is a tuna my dog buried in the backyard for a few months. I have rocky soil.

                  • @rosebank: Yeah I remember that, agreed. I bought for the whole package but wouldn't mind adding a domed crystal later but easy not to worry (and not disrupt the seal). The AR coating is usually decent anyway.

          • +1

@SpeedRunnerLink: I had a hardlex for 3 days before scratched it on the glass of the washing machine. My second mineral got scratched on my desk at work when I got up abruptly. They scratch so freaking easily, and then IMO look bad from then on, I notice it all the time. Nothing wrong with spending less, but if you can spend more it's 100% worth it if you use your watches a lot. Given you can get sapphire watches for this price.

            • @onlinepred: Well i guess if you're that careless Sapphire is the way to go for you.

My experience is different as I dont smack my watches against things so easily however have grazed it on a few occasions without issues.

              • @SpeedRunnerLink: Only takes one time, and no one plans to.

              • @SpeedRunnerLink: Yes for sure, if you don’t baby you watches and wear them daily, then yes scratches will occur. It’s funny as I’m not careless, but life happens. All I did was graze them, it is all it takes. Seems you are lucky

                • +1

@onlinepred: Exactly, it's like insurance, of any type, some people don't want to pay it and may get away without it until the one time. Anyway sapphire keeps your watch looking like new for years so I try to get it when possible.

      • +1

For sure because soft materials are naturally able to resist impact. That doesn't make mineral glass better thought. At the end of the day, sapphire is still the preferred choice.

        • +1

I never said it was better. I said it wasn't worth paying extra to upgrade to Sapphire.

If you're going to spend $200 on a watch it makes no sense to double it just to get the Sapphire glass.

You might as well just buy another one if you do damage it.

People always complain about hardlex or watches that don't come with sapphire.

But when it comes to the Moonswatches which costs $400-500 with plastic everything, they go all crazy for it.

          Peoples mindset these days… seriously

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: Yeah like I said the one I got was only $305 so that's an extra 30%, and arguably nicer colour. Worked out well but people wanting that one may be waiting a while. Anyway you have to consider resale, people would pay a bit more for sapphire then as well, depending on the watch. A $200-300 watch is still cheap as far as watches go.

Also agree and said you can upgrade it later if you have to.

            • -1

@G-rig: I doubt anyone buying a $200-300 watch is focused on resale value lol

In addition the hype and collector interest just isn't there for orient watches.Theyre not bad watches but they don't have that demand like Seiko's around this price point.

The old school orient stuff like the Titaniums etc. is what the demand is at.

              • +1

@SpeedRunnerLink: Just bin it then. People will still buy them, may have to let it go cheap though. I just got one as I've never owned one and they are a very nice classic diver, made in Japan and I've upgraded the bracelet so not intending to sell.

                Anyway just get whatever suits.

  • Good find, Camel average is $255.37 so the "Was" price of $215.10 is kind of misleading but in the opposite way to normal.

  • SAA02009D3 does not appear on orient-watch.com

appears on several Japanese online stores?!?

    REALLY NEW?

product code also appears on CreationWatches.com

    • I think these are new old stock

It was like with the Seiko SKXs at one stage when Seiko discontinued it from its website but you could buy it on other retailers and suppliers.
