Reminder this model is now discontinued. I’d expect cheaper tbh considering the 10th Gen had its RRP reduced.

    • +6

Yeah waiting for 10th Gen to be at this price.

    • Should be cheaper or will likely just sell out and not ever come back in stock

    60hz is hurting my eyes

    • +6

Even the new M2 Air iPad is 60hz.

      • +1

It's so you buy the Pro

559 for 10th gen at AOC store

  • +7

Bought an ipad back in 2017 for the same price. My 7 year old ipad is solid and works fine without any hiccups even today.

Good price for anyone who is on a budget.

    • +1

Same here. It works so well I'm not even considering replacing it!

10% off $449 from BigW if u have Everyday Rewards Extra

    • +3

      Not on Apple… Just checked…

      • online doesn't work, but what about in store? I heard ppl saying it worked on apple products

  • +4

Shouldn’t these be $347 now they are being discontinued?

  • +4

    $40 Cashback with Microsoft rewards.

    • For an apple product, nice!

  • Is 9th get still lightning, 10th gen got USB-C?

    • +5

Yes, 10th gen was the first to get USB-C on the base model

      • recharging apple pencil on the 10th gen is pretty stupid design by Apple..
        https://www.tiktok.com/@andruedwards/video/71581209402520077…

hope the 11th gen fixes this issue.

        • +1

Apple released another Pencil (USB-C) for the 10th Gen, cheaper than the older lightning model but without pressure sensitivity.

        • Pretty sure everybody just uses the female>female Lightning adapter that comes with the pencil. I've never plugged it into the iPad and have never seen anybody else do it.

      • Good point skipping til USB C model at the same price

  • Amazon are matching Officeworks of the 9th gen iPad

  • +2

I just bought this today from JB HiFi for $443 after getting them to price beat office works

Funnily enough the online chat representative said they don't do price beats but can do 'deals' which is what I got

I then bought a bunch of discounted JB gift cards on the shopback app to stack on some extra savings

    • +2

Yeah, it's weird. One time I asked online chat to match something on Good Guys Commercial, they said they couldn't do it but came back with a price that is much lower, strange, might have been an error, not complaining.

  • $449 on The Good Guys Commercial FWIW

    • +1

Just a watch out for GGC (depending on how you got access to GGC). The invoice is not in your name… so could be a negative if it’s going to be a tax deduction.

  • -2

The home button is sorta annoying if you also have a late model iPhone that doesn't have the button. Oh, and the massive top and bottom bezel. Oh, and also Lightening when everything else is USB-C.

For all these reasons would not recommend a 9th gen at all. If you must use a wired headphone, get an adapter as an alternative.

  • +3

This is cheaper at Costco (silver and space grey are in stock) at $439.99.

    https://www.costco.com.au/Computers/iPads-Tablets/iPads/iPad…

Price match at Officeworks to pay only $417.99. I did this in mid January. I did not need to prove I had a Costco membership when I price matched at the store (called before to confirm with the store).

    • But that's members price as we know Costco only gives that price to members. Other retailers will give excuses as usual not match or beat

Excuses and whatever they say it's not the same model etc is pretty much the norm

  • Don't buy you need usb c connection

  • Looking to buy a budget ipad to learn a new language together with my son, so looking exactly at this model. I'm not in a rush though. Do you think this will go down further in price come eofy sale end of June? Thanks :)

    • +5

Since they’re just clearing out old stock, I could see it going down more (this was the standard discount price even before it was discontinued by Apple). The unknown part is will the stock be cleared out before they need to reduce the price any further.

If it was me, I’d wait for either this to drop more or the 10th Gen to go on special (on top of the official RRP drop). But that’s just me.

  • I know this is still the best tablet at this price but buying a iPad with a home button in 2024 is wild. For the record, it's been almost 7 years since the iPhone X released without it, and 6 years since the iPad Pros launched without it.

    • +1

There’s still an iPhone with a home button being sold (the SE). For now.

My concern with this device isn’t the home button physically, it’s how long will updates be supported. I see a future where Apple has switched the SE to not have a home button and it’s no longer worth the hassle tweaking the UI to work with gestures and buttons.

    • +1

For a non-apple alternative, xiaomi pad 6 is pretty comparable at the same price point. Marginally worse chip but more ram, storage, 144Hz screen.

  • +1

Been wanting to buy our first iPad to replace our old Surface Pro 3, but the magic or folio keyboard price is insane! $450+ for a keyboard - that’s the price of the iPad itself with LCD, processor, mainboard, RAM, storage etc. They can stick it, for that combined price i can get a full laptop with touch screen and run Linux on it.

    • KMart sells a keyboard for the 9th gen, $29 from memory. No idea about quality

    • apple peripherals are always scam rip offs. the $999 stand was the best of all.

actually this is true for many companies, they make most gross margins on add-ons not the base product. even with games.

      • Can you blame most companies and people for being greedy? No difference from Harvey Norman, Gerry H ;p

  • What’s the best deal on the iPad 10th Gen at present? Is it via the Apple Education Store for $559, or any way to get a better price?

    • Pay for that deal with giftcards. Coles has 20x flybuy offer on Apple cards at present

      • Sorry what does that mean / how does that work?

        • Buy apple gift cards from coles, you'll get extra flybuy points worth 10% value.
Then use those gift cards to pay at the aoc store

          • @Kanjus: Sorry break this down for me. So say I want to buy the iPad 10th Gen which is $559 on the Apple Education Store. I would buy $559 worth of Apple gift cards from Coles. To keep it simple let's say I just buy $500 worth of gift cards (and pay $59 cash) and I would pay $500 for this gift card at Coles. I would get $50 worth of Flybuy points? It's not really a discounted gift card though is it? And what's the AOC store?
