  • Review of this drive here http://www.storagereview.com/1000.sr?page=0%2C8

The GP does easily draw the least amount of power of any 3.5" drive we've ever tested… less than 1/2 of any other unit when idle. Even under a full seek, the GP enjoys an advantage of over 30% over the typical 7200 RPM SATA drive. In what almost seems like an ancillary effect, the GP also happens to be the quietest drive we have ever measured and heard here at SR. Its miniscule power dissipation also translates into far less need for cooling which yields yet more acoustic benefit. Especially when taken in the context of arrays featuring many drives that run 24x7, lower cost of operation also becomes significant.

  • Well done Mwave on a good deal :-) Good to see HDDs are on their way down again.

  • Note that if you add shipping this is dearer than the current $165 (shop price) at CentreCom (source - latest Green Guide ad) - I have just verified that it is the same model.

  • Very ordinary price!
For all west aussies … the standard price at MCG Tech is $159.
(I managed to pick one up for my popcorn hour at $138 several months ago)

Currently they have the WD10EA 1TB HDD for $149

  • Just note that this drive will only get cheaper as people are getting rid of it due to the new model being released that is faster and uses less power (WD10EADS) by using 3 platters instead of 4 for the EACS (AACS in less then 1TB models) as well as having 32MB cache -> http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/green-terabyte-1tb,2078.…

  • +1

No Ozem61 thats the WD10EADS (as Icy has explained … the new and improved model)

Here's the same drive for $159

    • I am curious - did you notice that my post was a reply to Icy (Just as this message is a reply to your post - note the indent) and if you follow the URL I quoted it takes you to the new model he gave a Tom's Hardware link for.

Seeing it was a reply to Icy I assumed it would be realised that I was talking about the same subject as he was :D
