SAVA3

weird shape but seems like ATL based on previous posted deals. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/anker-a1289

I don't know if it's important but this is the Gen 2.

Gen 1 seems to be regularly $148 delivered on amazon though. https://www.amazon.com.au/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Charger-C…

ATL was $111 just a few days back.

    • sorry didn't click through the link on that deal thought it was for the Gen 1.

      • As per comments from that post, both Gen1 and Gen2 actually have same model number so they are not different.

        • what. so all just marketing? just anker playing games I guess.

previously tried to look up deals for another product, 355 or somthing. anker doesnt sell the power bank model here, but you know what comes up 100 times? a charger with the same number being sold in aus!

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I think the latest 737’s have a charging connection on the bottom ,
so they can sit on and charge off a dock .

            • @beach bum: ok then different I guess. charger dock is extra though yeah? in which case out of the box in terms of value they are not that different.

              • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Huh?
I mean there’s value there if you can’t remember to plug in to charge your powerbank ,
but I would just buy the cheaper version of the 737 if that’s what you’re after .
Otherwise there’s a 200W version , that if you could get that with a dock for around $200 then that might be better value for someone .

                • @beach bum: I mean if you never plan to buy the charger dock. then in terms of value gen 1 and gen 2 are virtually the same?

just trying to understand yogi555's perspective and the comments they are referring too claiming "they are identical".

nah i'm not interested in this powerbank. awkward shape tbh. just posting for others.

                  • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Most people don’t realise there’s an optional dock , and all the pictures of it are in an upright position so people don’t see there’s a difference unless you look up the dock .
                    I think I saw a review on YouTube , maybe .

                    • @beach bum: ok well helpful comments for others to read anyway. sorry not going to bother checking about the 737 because I'm not even interested in it.

I almost bought the 335 deal because it's good value per mAh. but quickly realised I don't use my 13000 enough. so one compact powerbank is enough for me.

                      • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I think there’s plenty of gen one stock around that they are still trying to move and probably why they’re not pushing the new feature too hard , as well as their new dock compatible 200W and 250W models.
The only reason these are any good is to charge laptops quickly , and they also have an informative little lcd screen .
Personally I prefer the zmi no.20 for its bigger and more efficient Korean 2170 batteries ,
in this category of Powerbank usage at least .

                        • @beach bum:

yeah I read 21700 are the new 18650's. well larger and bigger capacity but also going to be the most used battery soon like the 18650 was.

I just realised I didn't fully check the amazon link title in description. looks like it's Gen 1. fixed it.

@beach bum: The charging base is for the Anker Prime power banks, not the 737.

The "Gen 2" is probably just a sneaky marketing trick by sellers.

I have emailed Anker to double check.

                            @Prong: Ok ,cool .
Would be good to have definitive information ,
rather than what I think I can remember .

@beach bum: Ok, I think I found the potential answer. (and will try and get confirmation from Anker).

The Anker 737 never supported PD spec 12V, and 12V itself is optional in the PD spec.
It could always do 12V via PPS, but has been recently updated to include 12V, 3A PD output.

This update is probably the Gen 2. So my apologies to the sellers re: my previous comment, about sneaky marketing!

For normal use the 12V is not super important, as it is not generally used for phone, laptop or tablet charging. But 12V is used for various other uses such as battery chargers or running 12V devices, so it is important for some people.

                              The longer story -

Some digging turned up a thread on the eevblog forums about people testing different power banks to run Rigol DHO800/900 oscilloscopes.

One commenter had a recent Anker 737 that did appear to support 12V PD charging! They lived in Thailand and had a recent Anker 737 bought from China.

Another commenter got some updates from Anker.

Therefore, our engineer will improve our power bank and add the charging ability at 12V in the near future, which should help to be better compatible with the DJI Mini 3 Pro.

We want to inform you that, after confirming with our backend team, we have implemented an improvement to our 737 power bank. The latest version now includes an additional charging tier of 12V/3A, designed to provide you with more versatility and efficiency in your charging needs.

                              Very interesting!

If you have eBay Plus, you can use the code 'PLUSW100' to get $10 off - $138.01 Delivered

    • for some reason didn't show that code for me this time. it did show the $10 off with eBay Plus on another eBay Plus deal listing I posted recently even though I don't have plus (didn't show the actual code though). weird so on this one it only shows me the SAVA3 code.

I posted this last Anker 737 deal, but here is my review of this power bank on TechRadar.

    https://www.techradar.com/au/news/top-portable-chargers#sect…

Please let me know if there is any additional info you guys would like to see in these reviews, or any feedback.

    • Wow you are writer for techradar?

      • Yep! I have contributed as a freelancer for many years, but recently joined the Australian team full time.

My power bank obsession (and OzBargain membership) dates back even longer though!

        • Cool! Re membership i beat you by 3 years haha.
Suggestion why not taking it further, with teardown of the powerbanks. Many looks pretty from outside but they put junk inside

          • +2

@CyberMurning: The thing that got me to sign up was commenting on a Nexus S Vodafone deal… I did love that phone though, despite how terrible Vodafone was.

Doing teardowns would be great, but it's beyond the scope I have for testing for now as power banks are only part of my overall work for TechRadar. I do watch other people do teardowns wherever available but they are hard to find for some of the newer / cheaper power banks.

I do a lot of capacity testing though for each power bank (the power tester gear does all the work really) - much more than what I list in the reviews. So my confidence in the quality of the power banks I recommend is high!

            • @Prong: Ah ok fair enough plus good brand like anker we can trust them without lookjng inside

Imagine not buying it at $111 😎😎

  • I have one of this, handy for overseas travel as you won't need to worry about running out of juice while travelling around

  • I have this powerbank which works well. However, I need to point out an annoying bug. The powerbank often loses power by itself if you leave it unuse for few days. Some users reported the same issue online as well.

    • +5

Two things that might cause the issue.

Make sure low current charging mode is off. This mode is activated / deactivated by double pressing the power button. Which is surprisingly easy to do accidentally.
It keeps the USB-A port on for charging devices that normally draw too little power, and would otherwise mean the power bank shuts off to save power.

You can tell if low current mode is on or off by looking for a little green dot in the top left of the screen. And an up arrow next to the A (for USB-A port) and 0.1W shown next to it. When this mode is on, the power bank still shuts off the screen after a short time, so seems like it is off.

If trickle charging mode is not used (nothing plugged into the USB-A port) it should turn trickle charging mode off by itself after about 2 hours. (and it keeps the USB-A port on for about 2 minutes after you turn the mode off).

But if you leave a USB cable plugged into the USB-A port, trickle charging mode stays on. This will drain the power bank in a few days.

If you are getting the drain even without trickle charge mode on, or anything plugged into the USB-A port, there might be an issue. If so, I am curious, so post your findings here!

The other cause of self draining can be from leaving Apple lightning cables (USB-C to Lightning or USB-A to lightning) plugged in. These have a little active circuit in them that tells the power bank it's plugged into a device that wants to be charged, and it can keep the power bank from going to sleep.

      • Thanks for letting me know. I will monitor it. However I definitely didn't plug anything in. I would expect the low current charging mode should be turned off by itself after a certain period of time.

        • Ahhh yeah ok. And yeah it turns off after 2 hours according to the manual. I verified this is correct on my one.

I am curious about this bug because my 737 did it once (and only once…), but at the time I could not replicate it with nothing plugged in. I assumed it was a one off bug with it not sleeping.

I will try and few more ideas and report back.

          • @Prong: The issue occurred on me several times. Now I started to turn off manually after using the powerbank. The issue still occurs sometimes but definitely experiences much less than before.

            • @HappyBargainer: Yeah ok. I have not been able to find any combination of modes etc that will cause mine to stay on. Hopefully if it is a bug that causes it not to sleep properly, it stops happening. I have added it to my list of questions to send Anker though.

              • @Prong: It's definitely an issue. I remember that some other users mentioned before. These days I am always very careful about turning off the powerbank manually instead of leaving it auto off which seems to find the same issue less frequently.

                • @HappyBargainer: I have my 737 on my desk, so will keep hitting the power button and then letting it auto sleep just in case I can replicate it with enough tries.

    • Mine has held at 100% since i bought it a couple of months ago. Havent used it yet, only really take the bigger powerbanks when i leave the house for more than a day.
