Is there something around this price that works with both iphone and android carplay?

  • +1

Seems to be quite a few reviews concerned with a lag when changing audio tracks using the steering wheel buttons. Have you had any concerns with this or anything else?

    • Carlinkit has this - it’s slightly less than 1 second

    • +3

All wireless CarPlay and Android Auto adapters have lag compared to wired connection, some worse than others. This U2Air Pro has less lag compared to original U2Air model and most other adapters.

    • I have this one and I haven't noticed any difference between wireless and wired, but I also haven't been paying close attention.

  • Any reviews from OzB?

    • I have one for nearly 6 months and am happy with it now. Initially my iPhone 15 seems to drain a lot of battery and gets warm even when playing music from it, but now that issue seems to disappear.

Edit: My car has this issue of not applying enough power to its USB ports, so I need to buy a separate USB Y-cable to connect to two USB ports in my car in order to power up this wireless adapter. This problem can exist in some older model cars.

      • What are the symptoms of not having enough power? Random reboots?

I have a different brand that reboots randomly. I've tried different cables with same results, never ocurred to me it could be underpowered.

        • It won't power up at all when I only have one USB cable connected.

    • I have been using it for about 2 weeks with my new Tucson. Works great. My only issues are not related to the adapter itself (Tucson keeps providing power to USB so I stay connected after the car is off, and the wireless charger in the Tucson is near useless so I have to plug in anyway)

      • Do you lock the car when you get out? Mine stays connected until car is locked.

        • Yep. Lock the car, walk into the house, still connected. Sometimes it will disconnect but when I get near the car again, it reconnects.

  • This is a great price, bought this for 99 about a year ago. I can confirm this works a treat for Apple Carplay. Connects in less than 5 seconds when you turn the car ON.

  • Bought one in a past deal and it’s been somewhat unreliable tbh. Sometimes it’s great other times it just doesn’t connect until I disconnect and reconnect from the usb port.

  • As a user of one of these for a while. Randomly won’t start up on the wife’s Audi has to be unplugged and left off for a while then plugged back in. Takes easily 10seconds plus to boot up not the advertised under 10s or 7s they say

  • how is talking on the phone? i found that these type of things have a major lag with phone calls?

  • +2

I have been using for a year,

    Pros:
    -Fast connection
    -Convenient
-Simple/minimalistic, no wires hanging here and there
-Good enough for day to use
    -Price & seller (Amazon)

    Cons:
-Slight delay with music change & map navigation but acceptable

  • Hi all just curious what's the difference between that and this one I've been looking at on eBay which is cheaper and smaller form factor https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/176336215781 ?

    Cheers

    • Not sure, a lot of cheaper wireless CarPlay adapters are very laggy in booting up and response after you press the buttons.

  • I've been running one of these for almost two years in my Land Cruiser 300, works an absolute treat. Rock solid connection with no dropouts (even on 6hr+ drives without stopping), and lag is unnoticeable.

  • I am a technical person but what is this? How do you get the apple air play on the screen if it doesn't already have it and if it already has it - what is this doing?

    • +3

This is for cars with wired Apple CarPlay. Plug this in, and it Bluetooth/wireless to your phone to make it behave like Wireless CarPlay.

  • As long as your car comes with OEM wired CarPlay,

  • I used it in Nissan Leaf and found that after pick up a phone call from the car, it didn’t return to CarPlay. Most of the function are fine but just some integration with the car multimedia system has some glitch.

  • Anyone got experience with multiple devices? When I have the full family in the car, which one will connect and can you switch between users easily?

    • It's the phone that has been paired with your car's wired CarPlay. This is just a wireless adapter. If you want to switch between users then you have to do so in your car's infotainment unit.

      • I'm interested in how this unit handles multiple iPhones as well.

I have an Ottocast U2 Air (non Pro), which works flawlessly - however does not gracefully handle multiple iPhones. It only reconnects automatically to the last-connected iPhone, so if a different driver gets into the car, you have to manually go into the phone's BT menu and select the U2 Air to connect.

I previously used a Carlinkit, and on powering up it would display a list of paired iPhones on the car's screen for a few seconds - at which point you can manually select the one you want to connect to. Slightly slower, but much better for households with multiple drivers/iPhones.

Does this U2 Air Pro have a manually-selectable screen as well at start-up?

        • +1

Not sure if this does but the u2-x pro does.

  • this is a good deal. i picked one up for the wife's car last year, happy to have paid $99 for it. had a few issues with it initially (had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work each day), but it turned out that it was her parking security card (that was right on/next to it) that was the issue. with the security card now stored elsewhere, she reckons it is now pretty much perfect, maybe having to do a re-plug about once a month at most. prior to this device, my wife NEVER used apple carplay (i could not convince her to plug in each time she drove), struggled with navigation (punching in addresses using the inbuilt gps instead). now she routinely puts addresses in, sometimes to just keep an eye on traffic, and the gamechanger for her is the ability to easily receive and respond to sms on the way to/from work. yeah, stuff you can do with wired carplay, but some people just cant be bothered plugging in, to realise the benefits.

  • I put an android headunit mod in my car a while ago, it’s currently running Android 9.1, was using the wireless Carlinkit for a while until it stopped working. Have since gotten rid of the Carlinkit.

Would this get CarPlay working again or would this only work for proper legit wired CarPlay?

    Appreciate any advice, cheers
