Variable load always excluded on rest choice..

    • Not really as I bought variable load one last time (4-5 months ago) for $400.

  • Sweet.

Country Road = Mothers day sorted. Thanks OP.

    • Buy red balloon and take her on a country road trip

    Restaurant Choice
The Restaurant Choice Gift Card can be used at the following merchant category locations: Eating Places and Restaurants (5812), Hotels, Caterers (5811), Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages), Bars, Taverns, Cocktail lounges, Nightclubs and Discotheques (5813) Fast Food Restaurants (5814) Motels & Resorts, Central Merchant (7011), Amusement Parks, Circuses, Carnivals, and Fortune Tellers (7996).

    • All EFTPOS accepted Visa card and also store in Apple Wallet or Google Pay.

  • Does Restaurant Choice Visa have a purchase fee?

    • +1

      Nope.

  • Restaurant choice gift cards are very handy to have!

  • Annoying that Restaurant choice excludes variable….

    • Yeah! I prefer 1x $500 instead of 5x $100. Too much hassle at certain places.

      • What’s the trick to spending small amounts leftover in restaurant choice GC? Like the odd $1.32.

        • Leave them and use them as tips for restaurants lol

        • Get a soft serve from Macca's or HJ

  • Any ideas where to find Bunnings gc pls?

  • Any difference better TCN Restaurant Gift card and Restaurant Choice?

    • TCN Restaurant = eftpos

Restaurant choice = visa (if I recall correctly).

Some restaurants might sling a surcharge for restaurant choice but not TCN.

      • So you need to key in PIN for eftpos?

        • Yup. Found on the back of the card under the scratch panel.

      • +1

The TCN Restaurant Card can also be instantly swapped for a Digital Mastercard version online.
TCN also have an app to easily track the balance of all your cards whereas it needs to be checked manually for each Restaurant Choice card.

        • How?Thanks

          • +1

@aiyoyo: There is a FAQ that tells you how to do this, and the link to the FAQs is in the deal description.

And yes, you can add a digital TCN Restaurant gift card to Google Wallet (or Samsung Wallet or Apple Pay).

      • can TCN Restaurant Gift card added to Google Pay to use?

  • Does restaurant choice works for domino app?

    • yes. did that yesterday

  • Is there a simple way to work out what MCC a particular restaurant uses? I need to get a GC for the Stokehouse in Melbourne for a present, but thought I might try either Restaurant Choice or TCN Restaurant to get the discount. Don't want to give it to them and then find out they can't use it.

    • +1

Is there a simple way to work out what MCC a particular restaurant uses?

      No.

The “easiest” way to find out the MCC for Stokehouse is to do a transaction there and see the MCC reported by their payment processing provider. However, most financial institutions will not report the MCC to you on an account statement or a banking app, and you may find that a staff member from your financial institution is not willing to provide a transaction's MCC. The MCC is also something you do not necessarily need to know to operate an EFTPOS terminal or point-of-sale system, so there is a very good chance that if you ask Stokehouse staff what their MCC is, they will not know what you are talking about.

Realistically, you would like to think that a restaurant like Stokehouse would be assigned MCC 5812 or MCC 5813, because those are MCCs that are supposed to be assigned to restaurants (excluding fast food restaurants) or bars/pubs. If that is the case, both the Restaurant Choice gift card and the TCN Restaurant gift card should be fine, because both these gift cards cover both those MCCs:

Gift Card Where is this gift card accepted?
TCN Restaurant Merchants around Australia categorised as Eating Places and Restaurants (MCC 5812) or Drinking Places (MCC 5813). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance. (Please refer to this table for more information.)
Restaurant Choice Merchants around Australia categorised as Hotels, Caterers (MCC 5811), Eating Places and Restaurants (MCC 5812), Drinking Places (MCC 5813), Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814), Motels & Resorts, Central Merchant (MCC 7011) and Amusement Parks, Circuses, Carnivals, and Fortune Tellers (MCC 7996). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance. (Please refer to this table for more information.)

However, you also need to keep in mind that a restaurant may not let you use a prepaid gift card as a payment method in the first place. For example:

      • I once tried to order at the table from my smartphone using a prepaid Visa gift card as a payment method, but the restaurant’s payment gateway rejected this, because the card failed its security checks. This is something you typically see at online merchants that mandate a payment card to support 3-D Secure, as those checks reduce a merchant's exposure to fraudulent transactions.

      • Another time, I went to a restaurant, and as soon as I swiped my prepaid eftpos gift card, the Commonwealth Bank EFTPOS terminal said my card was not accepted. The staff member told me the owner specifically requested Commonwealth Bank to block prepaid gift cards, because they wanted to reduce their exposure to fraud.

      • Another time, I was at a merchant using Square EFTPOS terminals, but as soon as I swiped a prepaid eftpos gift card, it refused to process any payments. It turns out that Square does not process any payments over the eftpos network if you swipe a card, due to security concerns. This is particularly relevant if you end up getting a physical TCN Restaurant gift card (or an older Restaurant Choice gift card that operates on the eftpos network), as both operate on the eftpos network. For the physical TCN Restaurant gift card, you can get around this by exchanging the physical gift card for a digital TCN Restaurant gift card that operates on the Mastercard network and can be stored on a supported mobile wallet.

Thanks for the comprehensive response. Clearly not as straightforward as UGC / TCN like to promote

  • I am sure it has been asked before so pardon me…
What is the best way to finish the restaurant card residual values?
I used to go to GYG but the staff are starting to have a hard time understanding what is split payment….

    • Use them as tips for future dining

    • IIRC - Self-serve terminal at KFC let you do split payments.
Also, McDonalds do allow you to do split - I remember reading something about it on here. I think your lower value needs to be done first.

      • thanks. will try out KFC terminal trying not to cause annoyance to staff.

        • Any luck with this? My local KFC does not have self serve terminal

  • Don’t assume there’s anything that includes baby bunting?

    • Correct. Baby Bunting does not participate in any of the gift cards in this deal (and it does not actually participate in the Ultimate gift card scheme at all).

The $50 TCN Baby gift cards sold at BIG W and the $50 TCN Choice gift card at Coles include Baby Bunting.

  • Do we get extra point if we subscribed to Everyday Extra membership?

  • Is cafe choice same as restaurant choice?

    • +1

A Café Choice gift card functions the same as a Restaurant Choice gift card, but it is not identical. These gift cards are two distinct products with different PLU (stock) numbers and barcode numbers, so Woolworths treats them as separate products. If you purchase a Café Choice gift card during this deal, I expect you to earn zero points, because there is nothing to suggest Café Choice gift cards are included in this deal.

  • does the country road card work at country road outlet at the DFO?

  • -1

I discovered that you can enter the VISA competition without buying the gift card….

  • Anyone know if the restaurant choice is available in Brisbane? Have gone to quite a few woolies now and none them have it
