      • same

if you never had qantas points this is way better

  • +5

    This is still better https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer-…

75,000 pts straight up, $2500 spend, $195 fee.

  • Pretty high annual fee - anyone had success with a fee refund if you close off the spend and get the points quickly?

But do I get the points or the person randomly selected in the FF app?

  • My credit rating is high, with some inquires when attempting to open a couple new cards in the past 12 months but getting knocked back. Any advise or suggestions to be successful for future applications?

This card is easy, not as detail as ANZ

      • Cheers, I'll give it a try. Have a lot of frequent spending that's not accruing points.

        • +1

probably be mindful of what you mention during the application in terms of spending (loan or rent etc.) and if you have two incomes. you should only mention "the half" you are paying of those things if that makes sense.

    • were you approved?

      • I was approved for this one :)

Not a great deal. Essentially 70K points for $299. 243pts per $. Way down on whats available with NAB/ANZ/WBC even the Bankwest card provides better value

  • My daughter just started work this year. What is the best 'first' credit or charge card for her to apply in order to get the good value of Qantas or Velocity bonus points relative to the annual fee? Should she aim for St George, Citi Prestige or AMEX credit or charge card?
As she has no credit cards before under her own name, how is her credit score being calculated?
Her annual income will be around 70-80K.
May be she can apply for 2-3 at the same time or will this reflect on her credit score immediately?
    Thanks

    • "income will be around 70-80K"

Wont meet then minimum for many "premium" cards. I recall $120k is the entry point.

This is incorrect, i.e. the ANZ frequent flyer black credit card has no minimum income earned requirement.

The minimum credit limit is $15K and assuming his daughter lives at home and most expenses covered by parents. As long as she can show servicing based on existing expenses and debts 70-80K should be more than sufficient to obtain the ANZ Black range (i first got the card on about 75K a year)

    • Go with her bank's entry level credit card.

Perhaps your daughter should start with a basic, no-frills and low- or no-annual-fee. Points are all well and good, but for many people you'll benefit just as much by putting a bit aside to save up for a flight or holiday. You're more likely to accumulate lots of points if you spend a lot on your credit card, and you'll benefit more if you pay it all off before you get charged interest. Unless your daughter is putting a lot of expenses on her card, by the time you take the annual fee into account you're probably not going to benefit from VFF or QFF points on her credit card.

I wonder how many more people have to disagree with OP before we can sway his opinion…

  • -2

Ppl still collect QFF points? The new scheme is a joke and Qantas is trying hard to pump out points for $.

Sat business class return to/from Melb-Narita for 160k points a few months ago. Worth it.

        • I booked it literally 2 days before the flight. During Christmas time period too. Bit of luck.

Had plenty of dates still, to be surprise.

I received the 70k points for this card recently and called to cancel and request refund on annual fee. Was denied initially and escalated to manager who was able to offer half price rebate on the annual fee ($175). Given the 1:1 spend/points have decided to keep this card a little longer whilst I wait for the next exclusion period to end for my next CC. Worked out to be 70k points + 2 Qantas lounge passes for $175. Not bad

    • Better to close the card as soon as possible to re-start the clock on the next application

  • still good to fly first class or business class in emirates to europe

    • +3

      The taxes are enormous

  • whats min limit for this card
