Still terrible price for 2TB but with game storage requirements sky rocketing, little other options available. Seems like ATL but happy to be corrected.

with game storage requirements sky rocketing

Genuinely considered buying GTA6 on PS5 so it wouldn't take so much space from the Xbox. Not worth it since we'd be able to put it on multiple Xboxes in the house whereas there's only the one PS5, but damn, I'm scared for what that game is gonna do too my poor innocent Xbox drive.

    • You have plenty of time to reconsider, before its released.

    • Based on speculation, PS5 Pro will be released before GTA6. I still think Microsoft will also release a Series X "Pro" model (if so, surely Microsoft will allow an m.2 based expansion). PC graphics cards are getting cheaper.

Too early to think about GTA6.

However, Micro$oft needs to stop adding old games to require to be stored on the internal SSD or SSD expansion for Series S|X.

      • Too early to think about GTA6.

But it's literally the first current gen game that matters. Spidey 2 and Jedi Survivor were both fine but pretty mid. Everything else is cross gen and or on PC, GTA6 is just about the only thing to think about.

        • Rockstar flagship games tend to be a key driver for hardware upgrades. Are you sure you can resist not upgrading to PS5 Pro and/or the mid gen upgrade for Series X? It's GTA6 after all. I am going to guess you played RDR2 on XBox One X or PS4 Pro.

EB will run some sort of deals for mid gen refresh and as long as they are not too bad, it is hard not to upgrade. After trading in PS4 Pro, XBox One X, controllers and games, I got PS5 basically for $50 and Series X for $100. So I am not too emotionally attached to them. My PC has a GPU that's over 2X of Series X's GPU. It's a tough road ahead for consoles. I am guessing that's one reason Sony now moved to timed exclusive model for their games.

          • @netsurfer: I definitely won't be getting the PS5's upgraded version, I genuinely don't like the machine. If not for Ratchet being the missus' favourite (re: pretty much only) game series, and Spider-Man 2, I wouldn't have bought a PS5. Glad I got in before they raised the price, that's about the only positive I can say though. Xbox I wouldn't bother upgrading unless it died, and or there was a really good trade up deal like you say. I'm yet to see any current gen games that really push the machines, so even if there's a pro version of either of them, I can't imagine GTA6 is gonna look much better, if at all.

I had the Pro, even then, I only got that bc my PS4 died and there was a good trade up deal so I was out of pocket a hundred or two, but I dumped a dead PS4 on them too so it was cheaper than just buying a straight new PS4 standard. I ended up selling it in 2019, picked up a PS4 slim at the end of the year (for free, long story, but thanks @Gamesmen) when I missed Spider-Man, played nothing else on it really, and flogged it during the height of COVID prices for a few hundos. The Pro just wasn't that much of a step up, the only games I really remember being noticeably better were like COD4 remastered and Knack. I (profanity) love Knack but it's fine on a PS4 standard. Anyway never bothered with a One X, too much money, but seeing the X versions of games running on back compat Series X, goddamn it's a stepup from the stock Xbox One, probs more noticeable since there was a decent stepup between Xbox One and PS4 as is.

Either way, I have no interest in getting a PC together and rebuying my libraries for the hundredth time, I love my Steam Deck though, if a second gen of that came out in a couple years for the right price I could jump in, otherwise nah. All I do is replay Vice City and Quake 3 anyway. :'(

    • Could just delete something else…

      • I could, and I'm not entirely serious, but like, the PS5 is sitting there collecting dust, might as well use it for something and save the precious precious storage of the used daily Xbox.

It's mind boggling how disappointing Xbox has been this generation.

    • +4

The most disappointing thing about the Xbox for me is the cheap feeling bodgy controllers, the PS4 and PS5 controllers feel so much better in my opinion. I'm a fan of both brands and have always had both consoles each generation.

      • +3

Still insane that you can buy a $200+ controller from either company without Hall effect thumbsticks

      • Bought Xbox controllers for PC play recently and yeah, the d-pad buttons feel more clicky which is annoying when you compare to an older one

    • +2

For me personally, it's how every first-party game Microsoft releases seems to be mediocre or under-performing compared to their Sony counterparts. I've been with Xbox since the start of the One generation and it's saddening. So glad I moved to PC almost permanently, at least I have options now!

BOT or admin has changed that. No idea how it works but hence why I posted in description. Either way, buy through Amazon AU to pay in AUD.

This might have been an ok price for 2TB 2 years ago, but not anymore, I paid around $340 for a 2 TB Seagate Firecuda 530 back then. I'd want 4TB for that price these days.

I'd love whatever MS were smoking when they thought these things were a good idea. One of the many reasons I barely touch my XSX over my PS5.

    • +3

Agree. I put a 2TB NVME SSD into my PS5 for less than half the price of this proprietary garbage.
I still can't bevelieve that Microsoft developed a custom unique interface just to screw over users on storage prices

      • -2

Sony decided to screw people with their subscription pricing instead

    • +1

They were thinking about how much money they would make licencing drives to use these ports.

  • +2

These things are the reason I still have a One S. It's just rude that they didn't let you use a standard SATA or M.2 drive.

  • $381.13 from Amazon US now, that extra $1.50 off might tip me over the edge, especially since the 4TB external I had connected to my XSX just died :D

On the other hand, I don't really use my XSX
