My very first post. All time low on this model?
Note that it is shipped from Amazon Germany so should come with the European power supply.

EU stock.

Siuto
EU/UK versions are heavily nerfed in terms of available wifi channels and transmitting power compared to the Australian version.

The same model was posted recently and I believe the consensus was the Germany/UK models use different wifi standards and shouldn't really be considered in Aus. (To each their own though).

I however, regrettably purchased this model before realising that. So my comment from the previous post, which got a little burried:

Damn.. Bought this a couple of days ago, not realising it was a different model to local stock. Any experience/thoughts on Amazon's (international) return policy? It's been shipped but won't arrive for another couple of weeks. Doesn't seem to be a way to cancel the order. Never had to return an item before due to change of mind, so any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks all. Sorry for the novel.

    • So does the EU model work in AUS?

      • Haven't received it yet. It should work, but the range/power will be limited compared to local stock. EU law regulates their broadcasting emissions.
There's a lot more knowledgeable people out there than me who could explain it. Or check the previous post.

Plus I'm sure the UI is in German..

EU law regulates their broadcasting emissions.

Is there anything the EU doesn’t stick their nose into?

    • As far as I know, the hardware is same as the local version. It is the software locking the signal strength/channels for particular regions.
We only need to configure the region to "Australia".
It should be under: Wireless -> Professional -> Region
I will give it a try when I receive it.

If you have Amazon Prime and not happy with the product, I believe you can return and get refund for free.

      • Changing the region doesn't unlock the AU Tx power or the missing Wi-Fi channels.

        • Correct, models being region merged is backed into the firmware, although I have been reading of some getting Oz signal levels at out of UK routers by changing settings at the command line. Getting them to stick after a reboot is the next phase.

          • @Bludger: How does one go about testing the output on standard hardware (phone, laptop, etc) - I recently bought a AX6000 from Amazon Germany and have only just started reading these comments. 😅

    • I've returned several pairs of shoes in the past which were sold and shipped by Amazon US and it was always free return delivery despite it being "change of mind" (wrong size). I doubt it will be a problem to return these after they arrive.

    • I have returned stuff from amazon international in the past. You can start a return process once you receive the product. I don't think you have to send it back to Germany/UK to get a refund, just to the Aus warehouse.

Don't select 'change of mind' as your reason for returning, otherwise they might make you pay return shipping. Instead do something like arrived too late.

  • What's the easiest way to convert the EU plug to AU? without using a travel adapter.

To counter all the "don't buy it from UK/EU", here's my experience:

I have two of the ASUS UK import modems, ASUS RT-AX82U and TUF-AX5400, running in Asus mesh mode, ethernet backbone, working great, no issues at all.

Large house, 2 levels, many different laptops, desktops, NAS, TVs, XBOX, iPhones/iPads, other devices, etc, using it constantly, as working from home and no dramas.
Setup is dead simple and mesh works really well.

I bought them as they were literally half the price of the local (almost) exact the same products.

  • How does it works compared with AX6600
