    • I have been told it needs a new motor

      • That just means they don't know how to fix it.
Try a motor repair place. What replacement cost did they quote?
It might be worth looking on gumtree for a used scooter as donor. Might come with near-new battery too.

        • I am trying to source the motor myself and the current motor is 5.5 years old and well used. I would prefer to put a new one in.

          • @supatight: Try wheeliegoodmobility.co.uk

A lot of used scooters have had little use, though may look bad from weathering.

            • @bargaino: Thanks but I would prefer to source locally unless from ebay or amazon

if you want to source the motor yourself, your best bet would be to look for a name plate or model number on the actual motor to establish what type of motor it is and its ratings, and then search from there for the specific motor you need

        • The business has taken photos of the motor I was thinking the same thing and asked for them to be sent to me thankyou

  • Have you tried contacting Shoprider Australia?

    https://www.shoprider.com.au/shoprider-products/mobility-sco…

Electric motors have very few moving parts in them. They should last a long time. Shoprider's web site says their products have a 10 year warranty.

    • not on the motor I would prefer not to deal with them if possible, not the best from my experience in past dishonest and price gouging

      • Have you thought of taking the motor to rewind business to check it out?

        • I have taken it to a local Auto electrician. I have been told needs a new motor but having trouble finding a suitable replacement

      • +1

It might be that you would be unhappy with the result if you dealt with Shoprider or a Shoprider dealer. But you are almost certain to get an unsatisfactory result if you go to someone who knows nothing about their products. Of course they are going to say you need a new motor. Its like having a Kelvinator washing machine that has broken, and choosing to go to someone who knows nothing about them. They are going to give the easiest, and accordingly probably most expensive solution, to whatever the problem is. Just put a new [whatever] in it. That'll fix it without them having to know why it isn't working. And an auto electrician certainly isn't going to know much about electric motors.
