Edifier S351DB BT Bookshelf Speakers with Sub & Remote $259 + Delivery ($0 VIC/SYD/ADL C&C/ in-Store) + Surcharge @ Centre Com

First time poster, please be gentle!

Searched for the Edifier S351DB speaker set, and Centrecom came up with this deal that seems pretty good to me. $259, down from $349. The site says that you get free postage over $79 spend, but I assume the speaker sets are immune from that as I still had to pay postage. It was quite reasonable though for how heavy these would be. They look to have a few in stock, hopefully this helps some people out trying to get this speaker set!

Surcharges: 1.2% Card & PayPal, 2% AmEx.

I have this set, fantastic! Would certainly buy again.

Second this. I have the S350DB (only difference is the colour and the remote) and it's amazing. Hate the circle remote but they fixed it with this model.

I hated the remote so much I changed my TV output from Opt to Aux so I could use the TV remote to control volume.

        • You really have to wonder how they signed off on that design. It's literally as if nobody involved in the process ever actually used it.

I ended up 3d printing a holder to at least solve the alignment issue, but its still such an awkward shape and I now use my shield remote to control the volume, but I unfortunately still have to use the edifier remote to switch input/turn on and off so I can't just get rid of it.

$23.63 for postage (slowest) to brisbane/sydney

    • $27.88 to Tas for me. Which I didn't think was too bad for a heavy speaker set like this.

  • How does this compare to the JBL LSR-305 MKII?

I have neither, but have researched both in the past.

The JBL's are studio monitors, so they're intended for close-up listening for accurate reproduction of sound for music production etc. They're not intended for room-filling home usage necessarily. They're decently sized so will get you to a pretty reasonably deep 49Hz. They're also a fair bit more expensive than these Edifiers, at about $400.

These Edifiers are bookshelf speakers, and they're not necessarily trying to be the most accurate, but they'll be tuned for listenability and room-filling sound, not near-field monitoring. With the sub they go deeper than the JBLs, at about 40Hz.

Unless you're looking to do music production and will be 1-2 metres away from them, I'd go with the Edifiers, especially for this price.

  • Wonder if I should pick this up or get a sub for the r1700bts

      It's a dilemma. I can't help beyond saying that.

Thinking the same thing… what will I do with my 1700s….

      • From the brief reviews/videos i've seen it's 50/50 between the 1700s and 350/351's

Think imma pick up a T5 sub which is 199 atm and see how we go. Nothing wrong with my 1700s tbh.

Idk why I thought the sub was more expensive but for 199 can't go wrong! (if you're thinking the same just make sure yours is 1700BTS and not 1700BT, the latter doesn't have a sub-out

        • Yeah I have the BT model, so it will be a replacement set. Repurpose the 1700s or sell it… decisions.

  • that's a good price

  • Other Edifier speakers and bits and bobs in their current sale too

  • If anyone has any recommendations for a speaker stand for these I'm all ears. Just want something small so i can fit it in front of a tv unit as i have two tvs in our lounge room.

  • would these be good instead of a sound-bar for a smart TV?

  • only BT4.0 by the look of it - is that an issue, particularly given it has aptX?

  • I've been going to pull the trigger on these for over 12 months. This is a great price for the S351DB. Finally bought them to replace my 20y.o Logitech Z-5300e's that have recently had a cone deteriorate and crack. Thanks for the heads up champion!
