Recommendations for 2 Night Stay in Bangkok

We will be flying in first week of December and have planned to take a 2 nights stay (arriving in morning day 1 + 2 nights + departure late evening day 3) in Bangkok. It will be myself, wife, teenager and a 10 year old. This will be our first time in Bangkok.

I reckon 2 nights might not be sufficient but that's all we can afford (money-wise and time-wise).

Looking forward for suggestions from this great community for accommodation and family-friendly activities. We travel insurance is recommended? Best credit card to use? Any other advice in general is appreciated.

Inflation at work, used to be one night in Bangkok.

    • Bangkok was an awesome place to visit when that song was written. But you can never go back there again.

When I was there last pre-covid, I stayed at Aloft hotels, which has the double-double room, meaning they have 2 double beds in the room. I think it might be handy for you if your teenager and the 10 year old are ok with sharing a bed, instead of having to book 2 rooms. Download the Grab app, it is like Uber. Most taxi drivers in Bangkok don't speak English, so best to use the app. Taking the BTS is sometimes faster because Bangkok is jam everywhere at peak hours.

For getting cash out, it is best to use Superrich money changer because ATMs charge a withdrawal fee, rendering no fee debit cards to be not very cost effective.

    • Thanks for that double-double room info, its best to be in same room. I think my kids will like BTS too.

EDIT: Do you have any recommendations what to do/see?

      • We spent our time mostly in Sukhumvit as most travel blogs will tell you. Terminal 21 is worth a look for the novelty of it. I liked ICON siam. There is also the palace and temple by the river. We also got a massage at the temple. We went for a show by the river, went to night markets. Eating was cheap there. That should be enough to fill your 2-3 days in Bangkok. I found that there just weren't enough meals in Bangkok, the food there was really cheap and good. Mango sticky rice for dessert every meal. :)

There are lots of really good quality independent hotels in Bangkok. Generally, I think you can find very nice hotels anywhere from $50-70 a night per room. Many also include breakfast as well. Personally, I had a good experience with Agoda. May be best to try and stick around the city centre or stay at a hotel close to either the BTS or the metro train stations.

Try Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square. It's located right across Siam Paragon and the Siam BTS station.

    • Noted, thanks!

We love staying at the Pathumwan Princess. It’s attached to the MBK shopping mall so there’s lots to see and do, and plenty of food court options.

Highly recommend the Bizotel Bangkok - https://bizotelbkk.com/ (not the Premier, never stayed there)

Cheap, convenient and good staff. Plus heaps nearby that you can use including laundry etc.

  • You ask for a hotel recommendation, but don't mention a budget?

The Bangkok Oriental is one of the most impressive hotels I've ever experienced. But if that's out of your budget… Tripadvisor has always been very on the ball for Asian hotel recommendations. People upload photos of the rooms, so you don't get surprised.
