Recommendations for a motherboard that can take ddr4 (pref 8 banks), 6 pcie cards and multiple sata connectors? Moving from an x99 board that just died.

Both, I suspect. Current consumer boards can support up to 4 dimms, and I'm not aware of any with 6 separate pci-e slots (without going into splitters etc). Depends on the size/lanes required for each device too. I'd be checking chipset block diagrams.
