Got a ping from the camels and it looks like a great price. Looks like RRP is $349 USD. I don't know much about this DAC/Headphone Amp but it does seem to get good reviews. I bought first and will do research now. There is currently a small amount of cashback for electronics from the regulars with Topcashback at 4% and the others at 2.8%.

349 USD seems expensive for this

I was a little disappointed when I learned that the "balanced" front 4-pin XLR headphone output isn't actually balanced and is just there for "Convenience". (The balanced speaker outputs on the back are really balanced though)

  • This a fantastic price! tho probably closer to what it really should be priced at then the actual RRP it normally sells at…

  • I was looking at the DX3pro+, C200, or E30II+L30II for an eventual HD800s, but is this a more flexible option? It looks like this could be used as a balanced DAC later if required.

edit: did some quick research and it looks like a DX3pro+ with less power (1W vs 1.5W @32ohms). The L30II has a whopping 3.4W. Is this relevant in actual usage? It takes 0.02W to drive a 300ohm, 102dB/1V headphone to an earsplitting 110dB.

    • Headroom brother, you need power for transient peaks

      • Yeah I calculated for a 110dB transient peak. 0.84W is enough for a 300ohm, 120dB/1V headphone to output 126dB, which is crazy. I listen at around 70-75dB and 103dB is already slightly painful.

        • You already know more than me, now it's a matter of trying this amp, maybe demo it if you could before buying?

I use a tube amp with my HD800

  • Reminds me of the Matrix Mini i Pro which sadly died on me. Nice to see balanced outputs at this price point. I wonder if I should replace my aging Audiolab MDAC with this, and relegate the MDAC to back-up duties?

Edit: Stuff it, bought. Couldn't resist the good value.

  • MSRP is $350 USD.
This DAC delivers state of the art performance for both the DAC part and the headphone amplifier part: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/s…

I personally already own another one without the headphone outputs because I don't need those and I find it ugly, but for this price this is a killer deal.

  • Bargain! Thanks OP.
