That was a different brand though, this is Swiss + Tech bro.

The closest YT review I could find is for the 18 in 1.

        this is Swiss

Mine was from near the German-Swiss border.

How do they compare to say a Leatherman?

    • +20

      They won't

    • -4

I mean … if it lasts 12 months and at least the knife and scissors is sharp can’t ask for much more

    • +3

Leatherman is 10x better but sadly also 10x the price

      • -3

        Leatherman is 10x better

        Proof?

        • +1

          Proof you bought for $8?

          • -3

@OZKap: I don't keep Aldi receipts for that long.

      • Serious question, why is leatherman regarded so highly - been in the market recently for one of these, but was blown away by the price.

        • Good warranty.
          Generally well made.
Generally sharp out of the box.
          Made in USA.

Personally I find them a bit overrated even though a leatherman is my main multitool. My old SOG multitool has much nicer plier jaws, the tolerances are so good that you could remove splinters with them.

    • +2

I haven't checked out this specific tool, but they are serviceable.
I have numerous Leatherman tools and a couple of similar tools from aliexpress, and they are fairly good.
Sure, the finer details of a Leatherman is going to be a lot better, but If you want something for occasional use, to jam in the glovebox or can't justify spending $300 on a tool, they get the job done for sure.

      • Leatherman is nothing fine. I have the Skeletool CX, Wave, Charge Ti, Squirt PS4, Micra, MiniTool. Of all these the one that I considered fine is the PS4, which feels good in my hands despite it's size. The rest of the tools are all under burred it makes them feels sharp in my hands especially when then tool is in action. I sometimes use the opposite business end of the tool/blade corners to trim my finger nails, it's that sharp.

So the first thing I do when I get a Leatherman is to deburr the sharp corners with a dremel then finish it up by hand with a finer grit.

I don't know where is this SwissTech made but Leatherman tools are made in USA which makes it more $$$ ?

How do they compare to say a Gerber (which I can also afford)?

    • +7

buy the gerber, for the money the gerber is my tool of choice over the leatherman, any warranty has always been honoured with a new tool sent so can't fault them

    • Gerber's are severely underrated. I've used and abused mine extensively for the past 6 years and it's still as solid as day one. The main blade has become a little blunt after heavy use, but besides that, it's an excellent multi tool.

      • agreed, you can just sharpen the blade with a sharpening stone

    • +2

I don’t mind the gerbers, been meaning to buy a gerber dime for ages, cute little edc piece

  • +2

How do they compare to say a Victorinox?

    • -2

Firstly, can you afford a Victorinox?

      • Lol

  • Swiss. Got one of other type but gone rusty.

  • +3

    $49 on shelf
    Scanned $29
    Thx OP!

    • +3

Good work. What's it like, how's the build quality?

      • +2

For the discounted price it’s excellent
Comes with pouch, as mentioned made in china
Leather man made in Oregon, USA

Feels around 1/2-2/3 quality of leatherman, good for less use and more abuse but for camping/critical use I wouldn’t rely on this

        • How are the scissors?

  • Cant go too far wrong for the money

  • +9

Is this the Swiss SWISS or the Chinese SWISS?

    • +1

Made in China. They are good value for money.

  • frequently go on camping, hiking trips. Should I get Victorinox, gerber, leatherman, etc or this? I am tempted at this price but then I think of "buy once cry once"

    • +2

I got leatherman 8years ago. Highly recommend. Still in great shape. I m not that rich to buy cheap stuff. However this listing is more than enough for household use.

    • Belt clip it, daily! It’s more of a habit than only bring it when you do camping.

      • +1

you mean this or one of the other brands's?

    • +1

Leatherman Signal is designed for your use-case.

      https://www.leatherman.com/signal-439.html

Victronix SwissTool is probably the best quality.

Gerber is OK if it's just there for emergencies and doesn't get heavy use. I have a Gerber Suspension in the car glovebox and it's been useful for random stuff quite a few times.

      • Signal looks bloody good! Think I might wait to see if it goes on special.

      • SOG is better in my experience. My original one is 30 years old and looks like new despite my regular abuse.

    • +1

Keep it in the car if don't like it? Or you could just return it, Bunnings are usually pretty good.

    • Leatherman. Buy once cry once.

Or in my case get two because you wanted both colours and it’s an ace knife. ( I got two wave plus)

    • Get both. This will be your back up or if a mate needs it

  • Love the big scissor but I need the serrated blade and I really got use for that tiny saw

    • Do you have this actual one? Are the scissors are actually good?

From my brief research the best scissors are SAK then Leatherman when it comes to multi tools…

      • +1

no. i went today but the one near me dont have any on the shelf, even tho on website it says in stock……..rip…..
i have TTi, spirit X, both scissors are indeed very sharp and good, but way too small for anything beefy….

  • Does this unit have an interchangeable Bit Driver?

    • +1

      No, just fixed ones.

  • i have a leatherman already, but this would be good to buy and try to see if you really need one and invest in a leatherman.

    • +2

i have one too, but almost too nice to bring to work lol, need a cheaper one to abuse

      • that's actually a great idea. i bought one of these swisstechs because people keep asking to borrow my leatherman. now i have an extra they can borrow so they don't destroy my leatherman.

      • nah just run it into the ground imo - the plier part broke on my leatherman wave some years ago and leatherman repaired it at no charge

  • There are plenty of YouTube reviews on this brand ,
if not the exact model .

  • +2

These are fairly decent at this price, purchased pretty much same model of Aliexpress a few months back.

The tolerances aren't leatherman spec, but the design and overall effectiveness of it is very good for the price involved.

    • +3

got mine today, agree, cant expect this 50$ to match 250$ quality. but it is not too far for sure.
the pliers head is even spring loaded, very sweet to use, not too sure if it is a pro or con, as i am so used to normal pliers heads.
i wonder if i can interchange tools with my leatherman's would love to get rid of the saw on my charge and replace it with this big scissor.

      • After watching the reviewing video above, it looks quite good to me and for the price. Gonna grab one for the upcoming camping and also to open my wine (last time struggled opening it)
