Decent prices, I looked at incoming flights for Sydney the other day and there is like 9-10 daily flights to Tokyo just from Sydney! They have really ramped up the capacity on the route

  • +1

    Pretty good price!

  • +2

Nice price, although I probably would prefer JAL.
I need 2025 dates now because I want to book my next Japan holiday

    great deal for business class

  • They fly 787!!!

according to my cheatsheet Jun - Sep is the time to avoid :(

    • agree. unless if you want to visit the beach.

      • japan has beaches?

        • Okinawa. Coral reefs and everything.

        • +1

Given that they are a series of islands….. surrounded by ocean…..you'd think the chances would be pretty high they have some beaches.

          • @ASR-Briggs: Was waiting for this. England is surrounded by water but no one goes for its beaches

            • @ChatCPT: “no one goes for it’s beaches” is not the same as “has no beaches”

              • -3

                @ASR-Briggs: Another grammar nazi 🙄
                Meaning was pretty obv

                • +1

@ChatCPT: Hmmm, well I haven’t critiqued your spelling or sentence structure. If anything, I’m the false equivalence nazi.

Funnily yeah. They aren't pretty beaches like Australia, but some of them, like the shonan strip beaches in southern Kanagawa, have a great beach culture. Beach huts that are built on the edge of the beach with bbq restaurants, bars and the like. Drinking on the beach is allowed. You get a cool mix of Japanese people, including really outgoing surfer types that wanna make friends. It's actually a blast.
Some of my best memories living in Japan were summer days and nights on Enoshima beaches

    • Why's that? too hot?

      • +2

        Too hot, too humid.

        • Cheers, good to know. Wanting to head over with the family. Don't want to drag kids around in hot humid weather.

    • Thats why its so cheap.

You could go to Okinawa I guess.

      • Okinawa will be crowded then. Go elsewhere

        • Most of the well known places in Japan would be crowded

the last time i went to Japan i hired a car and drove outside of tokyo where not many tourists go. It was the best decision ever

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: yep anywhere even 10 mins away from the tourist hotspots will be fine. my pick would be the alps, although that'll be full of japanese tourists

  • I just flew with ANA economy 3 weeks ago. If you're lucky, the flight can be quiet/empty. That means you can have 3 seats for yourself.
Overall, I had a good experience with this airline. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

  • Avoid summertime if you can. Very humid and hot.

Unless you love animation and want to hear the cascade noise, eat sea salt flavor icy pop, or super expensive watermelons with salt on it.

its amazing how people say dont go to japan during their summer time (Jun to Sept) coz its gets hot and humid

like how bad is it? and is that everywhere in japan? or like if you went to tokyo you would just be sweating all the time because it can get that hot and humid?
but it shouldn't be that bad as compared to going to indonesia or phillippines during summer because i've been to those places and it gets pretty hot and humid too

i guess im asking even if you went during summer time, would you not have a great time because of the weather?
i wouldn't want to go somewhere hot when eg. gets alot of people

Tokyo is different due to the heat island effect, with high concentrations of buildings.

Kyoto is surrounded by mountains, so the heat gets trapped.

From my experience, the temperature does not drop in the morning or evening, and it could be 30+ all day in summer

Other cities might be different. When I was in Hiroshima it was a little bit cooler but there were barely any trees on the street so I was walking under direct sun with no shades at all.

      Hokkaido is around 26

    • +4

I went August last year and yes it was quite hot and humid but it's still bearable given you've lived through oz summer. Still had a great time, didn't really affect travel plans other than walking in the sun.

    • +1

It's not the best time to go weatherwise but Japan itself is great all year round.

    • +3

can't be worse than singapore in august surely

    • Hokkaido in summer is very pleasant. Tokyo and south is very hot and humid with temperature hitting 38-40 with 70% humidity, making it feel like 45. Kyoto is very humid because the city is surrounded by 3 sides of mountains

      • yikes wouldn't want to be walking around tokyo feeling 40+ lol

    • Probably people from Sydney and Melbourne who can't handle heat. Northerers will be fine

    • Been 3 times during the summer, never again (if i can avoid it).

    • Went Aug last year and was constantly buying water and ice creams to cool down. The heat and humidity does really drain and tire you out quickly. However it's a different side of Japan in summer and there are many summer festivals at that time

  • Any chance they will have a similar price for December and next January? Anyone familiar with the price in winter?

    • I'm also waiting for this period but it's not quite likely as it's in peak season.

  • I'd book in an instant if they flew from Melbourne. Planning my first trip to Japan this year.

    • Cheapest looks to be Qantas direct from Melb to Tokyo (Narita), JAL's sales promo looks to be over, unfortunately ANA doesn't fly to Melbourne - you'd have make a domestic stopover in Sydney first.

  • How about the Oct school holiday time? Farr seems to be 2k return. Think it will drop?

    • I’m pretty sure I saw plenty flights departing 3-5 Oct and returning from 15 Oct which are part of a sale. Check it out yourself.

  • needed 13th may to 24th may :((((((((( business sigh

  • Looking at late Nov for a couple of weeks… keep waiting for a special but they don't seem to be ticketing for that period yet. Wait or take the plunge and buy now?

    • Wait. ANA drops these sales pretty much every month now. You'll see November's dates in one-two months.
