There are web apps for Game Boy / Colour / DS yiu can save to your home screen for those who don’t want controller support

I use one occasionally and it’s great

      link please

      • +6

Wow, that would have been helpful hey aha
        My bad

This is the one I use - https://gameplaycolor.com/
You put the ROMs in a Google Drive folder, give the app permission to access only that folder and it puts all the games in a library

    starcraft 64

    OH HELL YEAH

I swear all these emulators appearing on the App store are exactly the same with a different name. I reckon it would be better to wait for one of the more established ones rather than reskins of whatever these are…

    • +15

This one is from the actual developer. Guy released it on AppStore alongside the alt store. He’s legit.

      • +1

That's what I get for not reading slower, my bad.

    • +5

Delta is the real deal and has been around for years. This one was published by the actual developer, unlike the first emulator app that got pulled.

  • +3

Apple changed their policy and started allowing emulators, so I don’t see this one being taken down.

If ur referring to the previous iGBA that was taken down, it’s because it was using stolen codes from the creator of this delta emulator.

    • +5

More specifically I believe is they took an open source project and then failed to follow the requirements of the open source license associated with the source code.

There was a second emulator published in the past day or two that was taken down by the developer themselves after supposedly getting cold feet.

Apple has however changed its policies to allow emulators and it’s gotten a lot of attention, so this isn’t an oversight and probably won’t be pulled particularly quick. One theory is Apple are allowing them coincides with them being forced in the EU to allow third party app stores. One of the compelling use cases for a third party store is emulators given it’s an entire class of app that to date could not be published on the Apple Store. By allowing emulators in the official store, people may be less willing to bother with a third party store. Just so happens the developer for the Delta emulator has released the AltStore in the EU, with this emulator being one of the two available apps on the store.

  • I actually could not for the life of me find this in the app store. How do I get it?

    • +11

Click the link in the OP?

      • +3

Oh right, didn't even think of that. Cheers.

        • No probs, we all have those moments lol

    • +1

If you don’t trust the link , search for devs name instead

  • Great app - been using it for years from AltStore. Good to see that it's now accepted on the App Store.

    • -1

What's your thought on this vs Provenance?

  • Thanks Ops, no need to refresh that ALTSTORE every week!!

  • -1

How does this work? Just download and I can play games at will or do I need to source roms?

  • -2

For anyone who wants to download better be quick before apple takes it down from the store.

    • +3

They shouldn’t take it down, the only reason iGBA was taken down is because it used stolen code/assets.

  • +1

FYI this is the official delta emulator, as can be seen on the alt store social media page. So should be much more reliable than the previously released emulators on the App Store over the last few days

  • Sad; need to join Patreon for iPad support

    • +1

Better to pay their patreon for ipad support instead of the ARCADE price at app store. But that's just me =)

    • Hmmm patreon one got support for Sega too… if only it was pay once . Would be happy to pay even up to $30 if it’s a lifetime thing

      • I wish I kept track, there are a lot of services/products that I haven't purchased in the last couple years because it was a subscription fee, I think people are getting pretty tired of the $5-$10-$20 charges on their account every month.

        • on one hand - it kind of combats piracy as theres some devs that put out weekly/ fortnightly builds that have small tweaks or whatever

on the other hand yeah…i dont care for discord channel membership (i actually have left pretty much all of the ones I used to follow other than the siddament 3d printing channel) - and i think if its a stable release, that should pretty much be fine anyway without any more updates. I mean..i just want to play final fantasy tactics advance..and myabe some castlevania again .

  • YES! Been waiting for this since my iPhone 4 jailbreaking days

  • -1

Get in quick don’t trust Apple they will remove it

  • -1

    Oh yeah lets go.

  • RetroaArch is also available but currently can only be sideloaded

    • The world's your oyster but some things require sideloading.

    • Granted I've rarely looked at sideloading since last owning an idevice when jailbreak was all the rage.

Is it still relying on dev licenses so it'd have to be renewed every x months or is there a global perpetual way now? No need for links if not allowed just a few top level words is enough.

      • Renewal is unfortunately every week. But you can install up to 3 apps at home, I use Sideloadly.

  • +3
    • Where do you put this files ?

      • +4

From settings, go to core settings, choose the nds one. Now theres a section where it needs bios 7 etc. download everything from the google drive. Doesn’t matter where, just know how to get to this location. Find and choose the correct file 3 times, since there’s 3 files needed. Hopefully that’s it.

        • Thanks 🙏

  • For someone without an Apple device (or in my case an ancient iPhone 6 which I only use 1 app a few times a year and can't update beyond iOS 12x so lots of apps aren't supported) is there a way to buy a free/discounted apps and have them in my history for later instead of just saving to wish list?

See cool deals/freebies from time to time and thought that'd be neat to use for when I do. Been chewing over an iPad for yonks just never pulled the trigger, maybe the next iPad mini with Mx.

  • This works soooo good
Currently playing aria of sorrow. Will go start Pokémon gaia later

  • Anyone know how to play bigger files on iPhone?
Smaller games like snes work but PlayStation games say 7zip and won’t add in to delta

  • +1

Now we just need an emulator for tvOS. Native retro gaming on my Apple TV would be awesome.

    • -1

Noting all Apple devices are too often "just" needing a small thing to become much more awesome. The thing is, the small thing is just missing..
      .

      • +1

        Uh.. ok.

        • That was to say: slim chance you'll see an emulator like that for tvOS without some sort of sideloading (if even possible - IDK).

          • +1

            @pizzaguy: Let me dream.

          • +3

@pizzaguy: I can’t see why we won’t get one. The rule change looks to apply equally to tvOS. Retroarch already appears to support tvOS, along with iOS, but so far the app hasn’t been made available via Apples Stores. Seems likely to me that if they do, it’d include the Apple TV.

            https://docs.libretro.com/guides/install-ios/

            • @Smigit: That would be awesome, but the potentially frustrating part would be how to store cores and roms on ATV memory:

tvOS does not provide apps with a persistant storage area; instead it allows for up to 500kb meant for configuration data. The disk space shown through the web UI is a cache space. If the OS needs to reclaim disk space, it will delete files from that cache space without warning. This includes state and saves! When this happens, you will immediately see that the appearance of RetroArch is wrong, as the assets will need to be re-downloaded.

  • Any controller recommendations? Mainly for N64 and SNES though I'll probably use it on a PC too down the line.

  • Connected PS5 controller to iPhone, screen share to TV, Pokémon works a treat so far! Thanks OP!

    • screen share to TV

Is it via cable or AirPlay? Isn't there a bad lag? Honest question.

      • +1

AirPlay to an LG TV. There is lag but in a game like Pokemon it isn’t noticeable.

  • Wow, pretty amazing. Time to play Pokémon red or Yellow! I’ve been hoping Nintendo would port it to the Switch so I could finally play it again but no such luck. This is the next best thing.

  • Here’s hoping PPSSPP comes to the App Store soon!

    • I think Sony is obliged to not protest it, because there's alternate app stores now (in Europe) so it's better for Sony that people get their emulator fix from the real App Store, and not the alternate app store that will put PS3/4/5 games on iPhones the first chance it gets.

  • Merged from Delta Emulation iOS App

just wanted to see what OZBers reckon of this / any tips thoughts etc - i have just tried it out and am very impressed… i have it set up with xbox controller and a $2 temu iphone mount - i dont think i need an anbernic gameboy knock off any more!

pretty surprised this is here to stay in full daylight on the IOS app store given Nintendo's recent stoush with MS/Xbox over retroarch…any word if/when the app will get MAME and Sega capabilites?

another nice feature is that it has no tracking/ data collection - a real plus in todays age of digital privacy invasion and deserves much respect to the devlepers, IMO

    • Would rather Provenance, but Delta is okay.

      • personally i dont follow this stuff too closely - i got a MAME arcade cabinet setup which also has SNES and Sega, had a go at retroarch on xbox a couple years ago, but this is my first go at iphone emulation ( and indeed any portable since i had a gameboy as a kid!)

i guess the floodgates will open and more will become available on the official appstore without sideloading/jailbraking etc etc?

        • If Apple really is letting us keep emulators from now on then the best free option will reveal itself eventually. I don't know if Apple would allow Provenance, it might need tweaking to fit with App Store rules.

    • Far better to have a dedicated device with real buttons and not having to worry about draining your phone battery even more.
