Maldives, Good Mid Range Resort?

Hi.. can anyone recommend a reasonably priced resort in the maldives? A nice house reef is the most important factor.. then comes food and the rooms.
Budget is $1300 (can stretch to $1500) for the right place) for 3 nights including transfer and at least half board..
We are going to stay on a local island for a week (probably mafushi) and will treat ourselves with a nicer place for 3 nights..
Travelled in September.

Thank you :)

Yes.. Bandos.. but was hoping to find other options based on personal experiences of fellow members.. is that ok with you?

          • @Save 50 Cent: Well in my OP, its not worth to visit there as sake of it unless you staying in a instagram worthy resort as there are many other cheaper but better places to visit.
You only visiting there for like 3 nights after 10+ hours of flights?
But if you planning to visit, try to avoid rainy season.

@boomramada: Did you even read any of the OP? We are going for 11 days excluding travel..
We have been there twice before and have been to many other countries.. thanks for the advice.

@Save 50 Cent: Basically OP is going for 11 days, living on the cheap for 9 of those days, and staying the bare minimum at an Instagram-worthy resort for bragging rights to their mates.

                • @p1 ama: Not at all mate.. Neither I or my wife have instagram or facebook (well I have a facebook account with no details or photos that I use for marketplace). We want to do it for ourselves. But thanks for judging me like that.

In Maldives? Yeah not going to happen.

    • Might have to do two nights then..

Why bother if you’re on a budget. Go to Thailand.

It is quite different though.. everyone is trying to rip you off in thailand and crowded everywhere. Maldives can be done on a budget. Even the local islands have very relaxing vibe and you feel safe and calm the whole time plus the people are really lovely.

Bad take in my opinion, have you been to Thailand? Stay outside of Bangkok and Phuket city and neither of those things will be true. Lovely people and great for a holiday on a budget.

        • I disagree. You need to go a long way off the beaten track. 95% of the people are lovely, the rest are trying to take your money in some way.

Not a bad take at all, Thailand is the only country I've ever been to where I literally couldn't wait to GTFO after less than a week. The absolute hypocrisy of talking all this shit about respect inside the temples meanwhile literally two steps out the door and there's hundreds of touts trying to shake you down for everything you have. Literally every taxi ride had to start off with a negotiation. It was just so mentally draining have to be on guard the entire time.

"everyone is trying to rip you off in Thailand"

Yet you wanna go to the Maldives. Right

      • everyone is trying to rip you off

That is just being a tourist in general!

You think the Maldives pricing is fair and reasonable?

        • At long as it is communicated well upfront and know what I am going to pay. Also, we don’t think about how much it costs to get food and electricity to small islands that import literally everything and run diesel generators for power. It does cost a lot to run a resort this way.

Oblu Helengeli is really nice, accessible house reef, easy boat transfer. Currents can be strong though, so best for experienced snorkellers. Stayed for a week, very enjoyable.

Take a look at the Hard Rock Hotel, Maldives who are currently running a promotional discount package. You might consider cancelling your current booking if there's no cancellation fees and then take up the Hard Rock's 9 night all in offer for $5399 then upgrade to their over water reef type house for your last 2 nights. Includes daily breakfast and 3 course meal from a choice of 14 different eating places on the atoll.

I spent 2 weeks at Lux Maldives few years back. Not sure about the current price. It was incredible.
