Cheaaaaaap-ish.
All time low? Never seen it sub 2K for a new one (not refurb)
I snagged one of these back a year ago when Officeworks was clearing it for around $2.2k.
Amazing laptop for the price.
Handles all my photo + video editing perfectly.

Not with only 16GB of unified ram.
Only drop $200 for a 4 years old model?
Huh? These were released late 2021 at $2,999.
They're about 2.5 years old now.
I paid 2600 in early 2022 from Apple edu aoc.
Still better than any Air model because of the mini led display, IMO.
Kinda heavy and the battery is not as great as they claimed but decent enough.
keep saving
Good upgrade for the Intel folks.
Says the apple fanboy
Pretty sure they are talking about people with an old Intel Mac.
That's me, still on my 2012 macbook pro even with HDD not SSD …
Meh. I’m not a fan of either Apple or MS. I mostly use my Linux laptop at home.
Good for you. You don't have to come on Apple deals to tell people about it.
@tightm8: Why not? I also own an M1 machine and also an old Intel Mac.
Yes. It runs excel, word and PowerPoint. 🤣
Worth it over a new M3 Air?
I'd take M1 Pro any day of the week unless I need the extreme portability and battery life.
16GB vs 8GB
Active Cooling
SD + HDMI Ports
But then again I'm a slightly more heavy user which needs these additional upgrades.
120hz too, which is hard to go back from once you have it
And 100 nits brighter
@WinnieRallycar: 500 nits brighter tbh.
Have a look here.
Read it all, especially the last comment.
+1
The headphone amp as well. I've managed to sell my amp/dac stacks and the M1 Pro drives hard-to-drive headphones beautifully. This was a pleasant surprise for me.
@idonotknowwhy: Not sure about the 14" and Air models, but the speaker sounds on 16" models are spectacular. Relatively, ofc.
@idonotknowwhy: Also offered in MacBook Airs released after 2022
But then again I'm a slightly more heavy user which needs these additional upgrades.
I weigh about 75kg, what do you recommend for me?
I recommend more attention being paid to the KFC hacks.
@wearytraveller: Apple fanbois are WILD for this comment!
I contemplated moving from my MBP 14 M1 Pro to the M3 Air as I wanted something lighter and more portable… performance wise they're pretty close but the M1 Pro slightly outperforms in graphics based on benchmarks/etc, but in most day to day use you'd be hard pressed to find a significant difference except in very specific workflows.
The bits which turned me off the M3 Air though which I couldn't bring myself to was the loss of SD card slot (since I had a small storage drive in there), the TB4 ports on both sides, the multiple display outputs (native without using Displaylink and none of that clamshell mode requirement - although ironically I used mine in clamshell most of the time since I have a vertical stand on each desk at home), the loss of the ProMotion and MiniLED (whcih looks fantastic) and the speakers quality (the MBA just doesn't compare).
In the end though I sold it privately and bought a Zephyrus G14 2024 which was lighter than the MBP (<1.5kg) and could do alot more which I wanted to do. I do miss the Apple ecosystem though with the integration of iMessage, Notes, etc and all that syncing nicely, but OneDrive works so much better on Windows!
I’m also interested in the Zephyrus G14 2024! Mind sharing if you got it below RRP and where? PM?
Same! I'd like to know the configuration of it too.
Not many sales on such a new model unfortunately - I got the mid range 16GB/4060 model for $100 off thanks to the Easter special at Umart. I really wanted the 32GB/4070 since it was really well priced at only a few hundred more but it wasn't in stock yet before I was travelling overseas.

There was a random seller which had it for about $3220 from memory which was a steal, but the website was frustrating to use and they had no physical store to allow for pick ups, so once you factored in postage it was about $3250. I decided it wasn't worth the saving to buy from an unknown store and risk it not arriving in time before I flew overseas to get GST back.
m4 could be coming by year end.
This or an M3 8GB speed wise?

Everyone asking "get this or this?" It entirely depends on what you need it to do…
Need more ports, video editing, external displays? Get the m1 pro.
Only doing office tasks and size and weight are more important? Get the m3 air.
Using specific programs which scale well with ray tracing? Get the m3.
Personally, it’s to mainly run VM’s and office tasks
What kind of operating systems and architectures are you looking to run? With Parallels and Vmware Fusion ARM64 guests are doing well (for Windows 11 ARM64, especially on Parallels).
If you're looking to emulate x86/64 you might have a harder time as using UTM wasn't performant enough for me - although that was probably mid last year since I tried. I had to go back to my Intel MacBook for a few tasks which required an x86 Windows VM.
@The-Real Team Doge: I currently running Win 11 ARM, but looking at throwing Ubuntu/Kali for training coming up and looking at VMware Fusion.
About the same . M3 slightly faster on basic tasks M1 pro slightly better with big loads ie rendering
$2700 for a laptop with 8GB? Lmao yuck
More ram is nice to have if you wanna future-proof.
Is this available for price match anywhere? Jb, officeworks, good guys, apple?
Pretty old model and gone through 2 further iterations so highly unlikely.
Is this good for heavy lightroom and premiere pro?
Yeah
Honestly considering how much of a quantum leap forward the m1 pro was over previous gen, I'm not surprised this is the lowest we've seen it go.
Have been using mine since launch for video editing and it's the best damn laptop in every important metric, except MacOS. So many simple things that still annoy me to this day. Although the performance, build quality and battery life is worth the slight pain of using macos.

I can't like this enough - I've always liked Apple hardware, but Apple software just makes me want to bang my head against a wall.
It's almost as if, by design, there are certain things that cannot be done without complex workarounds (which sometimes includes the use of paid apps).
I'd love to run Windows natively on Apple's hardware. But let's see what comes with Snapdragon's new ARM processors around the corner.
Mac OS is both a gift and a curse. I never got used to the window management and why some things open full screen (in Apple's "full screen") when others don't… but I did find myself enjoying using the OS more than I enjoyed Windows but that could've just been because it wasn't what I was using at work (at that point).
Got the MacBook Air M2 16G+512G recently for a little less than this with some discount applied, not sure which one is a better deal, but I know I like the Air for its light weight.
(1.22 kg vs 1.6 kg MBP 14")
It also feels significantly thinner/lighter when you pick it up/put it in backpack/etc…
Every single time I’m thinking about getting a MBP I go in store and compare the weight of the MBA vs MBP. Always works to put me off getting the MBP.

Can we price match JB hifi or Officeworks?
Is this model selling at jb or officeworks?
No
never forget https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/783012
The 14” was one of the best purchases/investments for my business I’ve ever made.
A deal that shall live in infamy.
Does this have the mini LED screen?
Yes
Noo.. out of stock :/
Silver still in stock
Nope, I missed out. I was waiting for this model to go on sale for sometime. Would this model be still available at any costco stores?
I haven't seen new stock for a while, great price!
Not a great deal. You've been able to pay less for an Apple Refurb (basically new) and stacking GC/ cashback for a long time now.
If you're not desperate/in a hurry , wait for 5%+ CB and 10% GCs and get this for $300 more.
https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/G1C91X/A/refurbished-1…
if it's $300 more for a M3 pro then probably yes, but then m3 doesn't support native dual display though and M1 Pro is pretty much sufficient for 85% of general use.
M1 Pro is pretty much sufficient for 85% of general use.
The remaining 15% of "general use" being the most demanding or just windows games, I guess.
It's such a beast and I'm just wondering what "general use" it wouldn't be suitable for, performance-wise.
Sure it's good, but some people just can't be stuffed with GC/cashback and just want the instant savings.
Some people just don't want a product that's refurbished even if Apple refurbished is basically new when they're spending that much money.
Yeah but that's stock M3 :/
