  • is the HW-Q990D worth over the HW-Q990C which has been going for under $1k ? vs the D at $1500 ?

It has the 4k120 passthrough and more AI stuff.

Main difference would be for someone wanting the 120 passthrough tbh. Otherwise 990C.

    • Hey, do you have a link for the HW-Q990C for under $1k to share please? I am in the market for one.

cant see one right now but Appliances online on ebay dropped under $1k few times, at its $1053 delivered which is a great price too in scheme of things, $100 doesnt matter on purchase like this imo but perhaps wait for a bit if not in rush to buy.

        • Yeah that's usually the cheapest, think my Q950A was eBay Power Land $1099 (and later put in a latitude price protection claim and got $259 back making it a steal for $840).

No need to pay heaps for a new model, for essentially the same thing.

Not at the minute but it came down to $947-960

      Don't they always!

  • This sure does tempt me to replace my 5.2 setup, purely to get some space back but I don't think it'll sound as good 😞

Just make sure you get one of the Atmos soundbars (+Atmos rears, sub), you may be pleasantly surprised.
Very good setup for an apartment, and works great with google tv plugged into the HDMI port and ARC out to TV (as my TV doesn't have Atmos).

I've had pretty good HT setups in the past but soundbars+sub+ wireless rears are just easier these days (and much cheaper).

      • I've got a set of B&W speakers but my aventage amp is really old now, doesnt even have 4k.

Considering an atmos receiver is about 1k in itself plus up firing speakers another few hundred, really tempted to try this.

        • Yeah mate that's the problem, the AV receivers don't last as many years as they should when the codecs and number of channels get updated (whatever you wish to call that), and they still aren't respected for 2ch music listening and lousy headphone amp stages. Just good for HT and handy for inputs/outputs. I think it just gets too expensive, plus all the cables and interconnects.

I'm sure your speakers are still great, I probably wouldn't bother unless had a dedicated ht room and do it properly. Kind of depends if you could pick up a modern denon receiver or something for cheap. You could just run the sound through it and 4k for the picture but know it's best to be able to run everything through it.

    • These compact ones sound really well in an apartment and not much space. Spaces like that would be about being compact and good quality than loudness.

It's hard to get a full HT setup on that kind of space hence these are great in those spaces.

I picked up the Q990C when it was $1000 a couple of weeks ago. Ripper system. Would highly recommend it.
