Please Recommend a Good Firm Mattress under $500

Are there any good budget mattress currently on market hat anyone could recommend? I have seen lots of ZZZ Atelier Mattresses on Ebay, but heard mixed reviews from them considering reliability, have they improved now? Or should i go with Peace Lilly Latex mattress or Sleeping Duck Mattress. Please give your experiences and opinions.

I would put the media room in the spot where the fridge goes, the fridge in the bedroom & the mattress in the media room

    zzz atelier
it sounds like a adult entertainment company but it's good value for money

    • They are crap imho. Bought the "extra firm" king size and it went saggy within 18 months, and we are not heavy (70KG + 50KG). In the market for something to replace it as it's causing discomfort..

FWIW I've had mine for 5 years now, and it's as good as new.

    • Not much use …. 🤔

      • has anyone stress tested it who'd be willing to give a review?

        • Doubt anyones had one more than 10 years

Edit: I've had mine for over 12 months - bought it for $360 with eBay Coupons.

    • Zzz atelier?

Please Recommend a Good Firm Mattress under $500

Get a good firm mattress. Put $500 on top of it.

  • Ignore the box in a mattress and go to a local mattress manufacturer. If you’re in Melbourne there are a few around with great reviews.

    • box in a mattress?

    • What are the ones around Melbourne?

I've made a recommendation down below with a bit of extra info, but basically, melbourne mattress factory are going to beat any of these bed in a box mattresses.

Mattress builders Melbourne located in Cheltenham is excellent. They do free delivery in metro Melbourne and make their mattresses there. Another good one is Melbourne mattress factory as posted below.

I've never heard of Melbourne mattress builders, but they look legit. Definitely try them as-well. Probably similar value as melbourne mattess factory.

I've just found this video of theirs, it has a zip, and replaceable latex comfort layers. Doesn't get much better than that. That's how I make mine. There's no better way to do it. Also, no zone is better than zoned if you end up going with them.

To add to this they barely talk about the zipper system on their website. They should. I do this and it's the thing people like most about mine. They adjust the mattress for up to 60 days so if it's too firm or too soft your not stuck. Big plus in my books.

I recently splashed on a king mattress at Forty Winks for $1300 and it's too soft for us. It sags and there is of course no return policy. One of my biggest purchasing regrets.

All this to say, make sure it's firm enough and optionally have one of those in home trials first

I have owned ZZZ Atelier mattresses for a good while. 10 years give or take and bought both soft and firm.
The soft mattresses do tend to sag but that could be due to me not rotating. enough. That mattress I don't use anymore and have moved on to firm.
In my experience, the firm mattresses keep really well. I have moved house twice with one mattress being passed on to a family member who is still using it years later with no complaints.
I use one in our main bedroom and have had that for 5 years + and it's still as firm and comfy as it was when I "reconstituted" it from its vacuum packaging (Very entertaining, ensure enough space on all sides :P)

No offense to the $1000+ mattress enjoyers, but it's hard for me to justify that purchase when the quality is this close. Maybe if I needed a soft mattress, I'd go with that level of expense but that's not happening with my posture problems.

I have a mattress factory in Sydney, and if I didn't, and I lived in melbourne and I had a lower budget, I would go here.

    https://melbournemattressfactory.com.au/collections/australi…

They will likely be a better bet than the mattress in a box options. Sure the website doesn't look as pretty, but a good mattress maker quite often isn't good at website design, digital marketing, photography etc'.

Many, not all of the mattress in a box companies are good at marketing, not at making quality mattresses that last. The reason they are not good at it is because they leave it up to china to make the mattresses.

Someone like melbourne mattress factory is able to have more control over the components of the mattress. They will also be more likely to honour warranties because negative reviews can kill their business.

Alot of the bed in a box companies are really good marketers so they can easily bury bad reviews as they are doing much more volume.

  • Ikea VESTERÖY. It's better than ZZZ Atelier which I had previously.

Seconded. You just need to give them a day or two to go back to their original shape and get rid of the factory smell.

  • I use the "single" of this: https://www.snooze.com.au/products/sealy-back-support-harmon…. Quite firm and has lasted 2+ years, no complaints yet.

Alternatively, look up any local futon makers, they're easy to store and usually very firm.

    • But how are the futons?

      • I like them but prefer mattresses. Not sure what you're asking.

  • I've had 10k mattress, I've tried those mattress in a box,

I randomly bought this from Focus on Furniture

    https://focusonfurniture.com.au/myzone-essential-medium-matt…

And it is the best mattress I've ever had. I have/had back problems and I never wake up sore on this mattress. Bought one for my son also who was having sore backs on his previous mattress, got him this. Never complained again.

  • I have this one. https://breezehome.com.au/products/breeze-premium-firm-pocke… For me this one[ I have used for about a year] suits me well.
