    • TQ-HPR50 Not as punchy but probably the quietest out of all existing bike motors + construction uses very few moving parts, no cogs or belts, because of this I expect it will last longer and will be more reliable

      • very few moving parts, no cogs or belts

eh? It is still a mid-drive, so needs gearing and a chain or belt, which is a big vulnerability.
You want simple? Get a gearless hub motor. No moving parts in the drive-chain except the standard wheel bearings. Of course there may be a weight penalty :)

        • Weight is not the biggest drawback of hub motor. Good mid drive system delivers power proportional to how hard pedals are pushed. For example when you go uphill you push harder then going on flat terrain and motor delivers more or less power accordingly. I understand that hub motors don't do this and deliver more or less constant power regardless where you ride.

        Eh?

Sorry I wasn't very clear here. I was talking about the motor internal construction. From Trek web site:

Most e-bike motors use gears and belts to move you forward – but belts and gears lash, slip, rattle and wear out over time. That disconnects you from the ride. The Fuel EXe uses an award-winning motor unlike anything else – the TQ’s HPR50 harmonic pin ring transmission. The HPR50 is not only smaller and lighter than traditional e-bike motors, but it also uses fewer moving parts, so it’s smoother, quieter and more durable, too. You get more of the ride experience without any downside.

          From TQ website (motor manufacturer):

By using our HPR transmission, we were able to develop a lightweight and extremely compact motor design around the bottom bracket ball bearing, consisting of only a few parts and thus making the motor almost invisible. By eliminating additional gears that cause friction, noise, wear and potential sources of error, we were able to make the drive unit even more efficient.

          From Instagram (trekprocity):

Utilizing the new TQ-HPR50 motor which is smaller than traditional motors, ultra quiet and incredibly natural feeling. This is achieved by eliminating the gears and belts of traditional motors and incorporating their harmonic pin-ring transmission.

    From Treks own website:

    “It's right for you if…
You're looking for a bike that makes climbs a little sweeter without sacrificing the handling on descents. You want to enter the world of light e-mountain bikes without blowing through your entire bank account and don't mind upgrading some of the parts later.

    What the?

      What the?

      Yep, pedals cost extra.

      • Thank goodness becase I prefer Times ATAC pedal so it's just waste to include bike pedals when people normally put their own on. OtherMTB riders prefer the shi||y pedal design (SPD) from Shimano, or Eggbeater Pedals etc

        • +1

Most people want pedals (and seats… and handle bars…)

Recon Silver fork, deore components, lots of room for improvement

      • +1

The components seem a little low for the price but I'm not too familiar with E-bikes.
If it wasn't an e-bike I'd rate it at probably a 2.5k bike give or take.

        • Yeah, maybe 3k for a trek with those components and alu frame.

        • With eMTBs, subtract about $3k and you have the roughly equivalent MTB.

      • It's a Trek, that's what they do.

        • +1

Pretty much the same with all the big brands, better value with direct to consumer brands like Canyon even YT

    • +2

Yep, this is Trek's povo ebike.

    • The cheap suspension doesn't belong on a frame this capable and the brakes aren't too hot either.

Might as well buy a motorbike

    • I can't think of a single use for this that a motorbike could substitute for. Help me out here.

  • +1

That's more expensive than a motorbike.
