Stupidly Did a Reset My PC and Lost MS Excel and MS Word Any Way to Get Them Back?

So a laptop I bought a year ago for a friend has an issue not charging the battery but draining it is fine. It works on power cable fine.

Tried the reset my pc solution and accidentally lost ms excel and ms word among others. The laptop came with it pre installed and it has a windows 11 Pro afaik.

So my question is with no active license as far as I know is there any way to get the ms excel and ms word programs back on the laptop.. They were the 2019-present editions

Probably a long shot question here

Sign up for this or similar https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788663 and then withdraw after you've installed O365.

    Bonus Edu email address too.

Was just curious about bargains for MS Office
Ended up deciding to enroll in a diploma course
      It's a funny old world

    • If you log into Microsoft Office or Your Microsoft Account, it shows purchases & subscription with download links.

Reinstall the same version of Office. I think MS keeps activation data on their servers, so it will probably just reactivate automatically.

    • so it will probably just reactivate automatically.

      maybe…

worth a shot. It probably depends on how old it is. For instance Win10/11 auto activate if the HWID is known to be activated by MS.

Some may say that losing both MS Excel and MS Word appears somewhat careless. However, the good news is that MS Paint appears unharmed.

excel and word both run fine without being activated, they just have a banner telling you they're not activated.

  • Consider joining an office 365 family. It can be had for $100 a year, between six people that's $16.66 a year, and it includes 1TB OneDrive. Bargain.

  • That you bought it a year ago, it had Office 2019 already installed and you weren't given a serial key probably means it wasn't a very legit version to begin with (presumably at that stage it should have been Office 2021). There might be a key sticker on the machine, or you could contact where you bought it, but it's unlikely to be tied to the user if it was already there when you got it.

So I'd just buy a cheap key online and it'd be no different than before, or move to a more legitimate one.

I got a phone activation code from in the shadows sources and will try to activate on Microsoft account and then install Word and Excel will report back if great success.

The code was like $2 but I'm not sure how much more I can say without getting Julian Assanged. Lol wish me luck.

  • Just subscribe to M365 personal edition…less than $100 a year, gets nearly unlimited One Drive storage so all your files get stored in the cloud. Best of all, this is the legit way to use Office and don't need to worry about it stop working suddenly.

  • Ive got 2 copies of 2019 both tied to my ms acc. All i do is login to ms and pick which key to install and its ties to the pc, name and all. Thought this was the cause for all copies of 2019.
