  • Woolworths Australian Oats 1.5kg $2.60
    Coles Australian Oats 900g $1.65
For those that prefer the cheaper option.

I am going to give these Uncle Tobys a go and see if I can tell the difference.

    • no difference in smoothies if that is anyone's main use.

      • We have used oats in smoothies everyday for years. Uncle Toby's, Coles oats and some other brands are all the same. The Woolies ones U can taste that it's different (in a bad way). Tried a few different bags at different times. It's always Coles for us now.

    • Please report back! I've always wondered but never been bothered to spend the extra $2. On that note, how about testing steel cut too 😀

      • Yep Uncle Toby's are much better than Woolworths, smoother. I will try Coles brand next as it sounds like they would be just as or almost as good as Uncle Toby's. I got Coles brand a while ago, but can't really remember. Won't get Woolworths again.

        • Thanks for the update!

I have tried the woolworths one, and never again. Very grainy and rock solid pieces.

With Tobys, hot water + 20 secs microwave is what I needed. With woolies one, hot water and keep your microwave running until you hear explosion.

    • JV would agree.

  • Thank you OP. Been eating 170g per day and missed the 20% discount yesterday. MORE OATS for our BULKING.

    • Do you even lift

      • NO F DAYS OFF! Lets go!

haha you're welcome. My son eats a bowl of these every day for breakfast. 6kgs of oats should last a couple of months in my household haha.

      • Superfood! and Super Regular! :-)

    No to Nestle

    • FreeNestle? When is Rally?

  • I thought Quick Oats are an abomination never to be spoken of.

The Woollies Oats are like pieces of shrapnel.

We tried the cheaper Woolworths brand. Kids wouldn’t eat them. They tasted grainy.
These are much smoother and cook easy.
1 cup oats, 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup water. 2:40 in microwave and then let cool for a few minutes. For the little kids chuck an ice cube in the bowl before you put the oats in. Cools them much quicker and it’s also a bit of fun.

      I am with my people

  • I use the cheap Woolworths/Coles ones (not quick though, proper rolled oats). In a smoothie there is no difference once blitzed to smooth.

When I want a bowl of porridge, I cook it in a pressure cooker (pot in pot method, 8 min on high pressure and then 10-15 min natural cool down. It's not any faster than on the stove, but it requires no babysitting and so I can go and do other things without worrying about it catching on the bottom). It comes out perfect, so I'll stick to the cheap ones. I've tried the fancy ones before and yes the texture was more velvety… but the pressure cooked cheap ones are still great, so I'm happy.
