Basically looking for something like the old my net fone where you could pay something like $5-10 per year and have an active number to receive calls and sms.
What's the best one nowadays?

Thanks yeah I think this is the only option these days just have to be careful no one "accidentally" uses it for anything but just receiving calls and texts. aka I wonder if there is a way to disable outgoing calls and texts somehow on an android mobile phone. my research continues thanks a bunch ;)

That plan doesn't have data… It is prepaid.
If you want data, you need to pay for an add-on..
it charges for PAYG data at 5c/MB
@shxhshzhz: I've never been charged
Buy this, which can be activated on the Amaysim 365 day PAYG plan.
Ah what is the purpose of the $9 Cashback on $18 Prepaid Mobile 80GB 28-Day SIM won't the $10 amaysim As You Go Plan be enough to make it last for 365 days or did you mean you top up with the $9 cashback offer to get another 365 days on top sorry im just confused of the top up we don't need any outgoing credit just a burner phone to receive texts and calls from paypal.

It's actually a $40 sim for $9 after cashback.
won't the $10 amaysim As You Go Plan be enough to make it last for 365 days
Yes sure but why not buy this one for $1 less after cashback, plus you get $40 credit. Seems a no brainer to me.
No one else ever understands how good these discounted amaysim packs are 😢
does this mean for $9 you'll be able to receive SMSes for 365 days? the 80GB expires in 28 days but the credit stays active for 365 if i've understood correctly.
you wont find anything below $10 a year for this purpose.
cheapest plans nowadays are:-
$10 amaysim pay as you go (optus network) 1 year + 90 days (i think if not 180 days extra incoming)
you can also score some $35 6 month telstra prepaid casual kits for $15 ish (expect that to be 6 months + another 6 months incoming).
$5+$15 aldi (telstra network) (30 + 180 + 365 + 180 days)
Occasional boost freebie/profit deals $0 (28+ 180 days). This is only possible way you could get it for under $10 a year is Boost > port another > Boost.
Ah nice this is interesting yes I forgot porting to another deal/freebie is another way to do this and just opt to keep existing number essentially prolonging the number infinitely
Amaysim 10$/year PAYG.
