bought one for 20 last week, this is pathetic when they put 5 for sale at this price and it gets posted

    • +1

Well I mean, if it didn’t get posted then you wouldn’t know about it anyway 💀

      • im not saying the act of posting it is pathetic, im saying their attempt to move up the amazon algorithm by only putting 5 on sale is pathetic,

        • How do you know how much they put on sale or sold on this deal?

          • +1

@Scrooge McDeal: easy guess, sold out 15 mins later after the post, just like every other deal that gets posted from this seller

            • -1

@Roe Jogan: That doesn't mean it's 5 on sale. That means it's limited number of Coupons (unknown) on a popular item. So you need to be quick. My guess would be atleast 50 Sold. Remember that people that are just visitors on OZB can still see the deals and buy.

              • +4

@Scrooge McDeal: Most people who buy also don’t comment. Their assumption is 100% incorrect.

              • @Scrooge McDeal: i hear you but what im saying is compared to other deals that also get posted on ozbargain, ones that do last 15 mins also get called out, relative to to other ozbagain deals this seller always puts low numbers on sale.

            • @Roe Jogan: I got one at this price last week. So its been on sale for more than a few days.

Good power bank. I grabbed one in the last deal and put it through a few runs on the load tester.

31Wh at 20W (9V, 2.22A) output, which gives 83.8% efficiency. At an average of 12W load (what my phone averages at) it hits 86.2% efficiency.

41.5Wh to charge, which suggest the 37Wh (10,000mAh) capacity is legit, and they use cells well rated to the max output.

This is very similar to the also great INIU B6.

As a comparison, the also often on sale Veektomx VT103 (extra compact power bank) is rated at 38.5Wh but at 20W (9V, 2.22A) it only outputs 21.75Wh. A dismal 56.49% of the rated capacity. It appears to use cells that are not rated for the advertised 20W output, as it gets 82.9% of the rated capacity if drained at 5W.

      So it works, thanks

    • +2

Thanks, great info. I enjoy seeing competent people doing a good job!

    • Price aside what power bank(s) do you recommend?

      • +11

It depends on usage. Phone charging, how often, laptop charging etc.

On the cheap end, for phone charging, the INIU B6 is great. I have not tested all the INIU models, but the ones I have (B6, B61, B63) all seem excellent.

At the high end, ZMI QB826G, Anker 737 and Ugreen 145W (PB205) are by far the best. Ugreen has a range of nice power banks. Anker has a few other good ones, but the Australian market is still swamped with older models that are not great.

A random wildcard powerbank I tested that is much better than expected is the 37Wh (10,000 mAh) Limeta EB40 for $26. More discussion at a deal post here. It's ultra compact, has cool features enabled via Bluetooth and uses quality Samsung 21700 cells.

I personally like Baseus, such as the Blade Pro. But based on comments here DOA rates have been high. They seem to have been improving QC though.

Romoss make quality power banks with 8 gazillion options to pick from.

I would suggest avoiding Imuto. I have had 2 failed power banks from them, and the Imuto X6G 99Wh does not actually have the 99Wh claimed.

All the Charmast power banks I have tested have been terrible. Especially the 100W model (C100W).

VRURC has some good and some bad.

        • Appreciate your insights!

        • Hello sir, any recommendation for a good power bank that it will be held behind the head for Quest 2 VR headset? just don't want anything will blow the head off. thank you

          • @wxwsf: Interesting question. So to clarify, you want to attach the power bank to your headset?

According to the spec I can find online, the Quest 2 has a 14Wh (3,640 mAh) battery and charges at 5V, 2A. So 10W or so.

So a 18Wh (5,000 mAh) power bank will charge the Quest 2 once, after efficiency losses. So will result in twice the overall run time compared to now power bank.

A 37Wh (10,000 mAh) power bank will result in triple the run time.

The lightest option will be a 18Wh (5,000 mAh) power bank like the Anker Nano. But these are pretty expensive for what you get. I have tested a few of the cheap power banks from various brands that use this same form factor, and generally they are not great and don't give the capacity listed. They tend to use 21700 cells so safety is decent.

The 37Wh (10,000mAh) power banks like the B61 in this deal, or the popular B6, are good options that output the full capacity with pretty low efficiency losses. The B6 is ~210 grams, so pretty lightweight. They use pouch cells, but appear to use quality cells so safety should be decent.

But perhaps the best option is the Limeta PB40. (37Wh, 10,000mAh). It was a bit cheaper, but currently $30. Which is still much less than it is sold elsewhere, and worth, IMO.

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836987
            https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BN7H8XT8

It is 189 grams and appears to use quality Samsung cells. You can check the charge capacity via app on your phone, which may be useful when the power bank is not visible to you. You can also set the max charge capacity to 80% to aid longevity, and it does pass through charging so you can just plug it into the wall charger, and it will also charge the Quest 2. It also has the option for dual input quick charging. I have tested one and efficiency seems decent.

            • @Prong: thank you for above details, much appreciated.

also wondering, whether cygnett ChargeUp Boost 4th Gen 10k is a good option as they are in stock TGG and I can get it for $28.

              https://www.cygnett.com/collections/chargeup-boost-4th-gen

              • @wxwsf: Yep, that does 5V, 3A (15W) so will work fine and will charge the Quest 2 at full speed. I don't see a weight for it online, but it will be similar to other 10,000mAh power banks.

I have not tested that power bank, but Cygnett is typically decent enough.

It doesn't do PD spec fast charging so isn't the best option for phone charging. But the Quest 2 can only use 5V, so not an issue.

                • +1

                  @Prong: thank you, Sir
$28 makes sense to me for a reliable brand without risking blow my head off however, Limeta PB40 is interested.

    • +1

This is such good insight - particularly about to veektomx - I see them all the time and almost bought one but was too late. This information would definitely be helpful as I now know I dodged a bullet!

This should be in the comments whenever the veektomx is posted!

    • I'm surprised they're using quality cells for such a low selling price. Must be a loss leader

      • +1

My understanding is they are doing it to influence their position on the Amazon ranking system, and get more sales overall to make up for the extra discounted sales.

I have not done long term testing on this deal (The B61) but have had a B6 for almost a year and have put it through many cycles, with no obvious signs of degradation. INIU do have a three year warranty, so also seem confident in their cell quality.

    • Great knowledge and writeup thanks mate! Now any chance you have the other competitor and if yes have you tested it? It’s the Charmast Mini
      TIA! 🙏

      • +3

Yep I have tested it, but unfortunately it (Charmast W1150L) also appears to use cells not rated for 20W. It's not as bad as the Veektomx VT103.

At 20W it outputs 26.1Wh, which is 67.8% of the rated capacity. And takes 38Wh to charge, which suggests voltage droop at this load. I ruled it out for my purposes based on that result, so did not test further. I still have it, so will stick it on the load tester at 12W and see how it goes.

My expectation is a power bank should do 80%+ of its rated capacity at full output. But average charge rate for a phone is much lower, and the 20W peak is pretty short in most cases. So the W1150L may be ok-ish for normal use.

        • Thanks much legend! Unfortunately I’ve got 2 of each the Veektom and Charmast.. but 1 of each still sealed. Guess time to “get rid” of them as a gift…
I’ll aim to score these INIU mini ones instead. Appreciated!

          • +4

@noelhoi: And to be fair to those Veektomx and Charmast power banks, they do seem to do ok for phone charging. Especially any phone that spends much of the charge cycle at 10W or less. I suspect the power bank cells won't last super long if used at 20W a lot.

They are also noticeably more compact than the B61 from this deal. The B61 is 2.5cm thick (thicker than it looks in the pics), vs 1.6cm for the Veektomx and 1.8cm for the Charmast.

If they were sold as 8,000 mAh (30Wh) power banks and/or limited to 15W (9V, 1.6A) fast charging, then they would be perfectly fine as a "mini" option.

But yeah, the INIU B6 is great. I prefer it over the B61, as the B6 is longer, but only 1.5cm thick and actually slightly less volume overall, and very slightly higher capacity.

The other power bank I really like (but am still doing longer term testing on) is the $26 Limeta EB40. In terms of volume, it is very slightly smaller than the Veektomx, but a different form factor. Thicker, but not as wide or long.

But as it turns out, it's a rebadged ISDT PB40, which uses Samsung 21700 cells. It also has cool features available via Bluetooth, such as setting a max 80% charge to aid longevity. And does pass through charging (with UPS mode), or can charge from both USB-C inputs at once!

It gets 85% efficiency at 18W, which is great. I have yet to do cyclic testing, low wattage testing or 36W (both outputs) testing. But so far, it seems excellent. More discussion at the deal link below.

    • I'm super happy with the device I bought last week :\

  • +1

    I now have 74 of these…

    • I always miss these, how do you know which ones are good to get? I am unfamiliar with what W and mAh are good. THanks

      • I am unfamiliar with what W and mAh

W is the power. How quickly it can charge devices.
mAh is how much energy it can store.

Just read the reviews, most will be fine.

Gee paid $5 more last week for no good reason.

  • I'm In the market to buy some new lion cells to replace my 12 year old Panasonic 18650s. Thinking of going 21700. Any advantage of buying one of these power banks at a cheap price than going the DIY route I've done before. Do these typically charge or discharge quicker?

Obviously if you're in a pinch and the circuitry breaks with these power banks…

  • dammit i jsut brought three w the 40% off that came n went for liks $19.48 ea?! whattt
