This is already covered in the weekly grocery bargain listing.

Didn't come up with similar post, Plus everyone like Connoisseur, no harm done.

      • Not everyone!

      • The other post has been up for almost a week. You didn't search hard enough. Third time this has now been posted. Credit should always go to the original posting, and unnecessary duplicates should be deleted.

        • +2

Regardless of that, it's no reason to neg this deal.

        • How is it not a reason?

        • Because if the OP did a search of Connoisseur the other deal that was posted would have been at the very top of the search results.

        • -3

First time poster mate if you didn't notice so get over it

        • Show some unity, give him a sloppy kiss and get over it.

        • +11

When I tried to submit your same deal the following prompt came up

Please make sure that you are not trying to post a duplicate of any of these previous posts:
          Connoisseur 1L Ice Cream $5 @ Coles (40% off)
Peters Connoisseur Ice Cream 1L $5 (Save 44%), HP Spicy BBQ Sauce 400ml $2.24 (Save 50%) @ Coles

You simply ignored the warnings this had already been posted and you go and copy someone else post. It's not a fault with the deal. It's a fault with you failing to read properly.

        • +1

If you knew the guidelines for posting deals like you make out you do, you would know the mods rather us report it to them and let them deal with it. You're just posturing unnecessarily and it reflects bad on you!

        • -7

And you've just wasted your Sunday complaining about the most petty of things,
          Congratulatuons!

          Okay, calm down buddy.

        • +2

I'm telling the facts as they are. Nothing reflects bad on me. I'm not going around plagiarising other people's deals.

        • -6

Keep saying that to yourself, maybe you will believe that eventually :)

        • +2

          Wow, stay classy.

      • +2

Clearly a dupe, same product, price, store chain and sale period. As unity1 proved above, the op has ignored the dupe checker and warnings at the time of posting despite claiming it didn't show them.

Most astounding of all is the retrospective creation of a rule / guideline that allows this.

        Quite perplexing from every angle.

        • +1

The cynical view from now on would be this if it happens ever again:

          1. Find a post made during the week that you think deserves more upvotes but for whatever reason (time of day posted, number of deals posted that day etc.) didn't receive as many as it could've.
          2. Post deal again during a "quiet" time e.g. weekend when you know this site isn't being observed as closely as during other times of the week.
          3. Wait for deal to receive lots of upvotes and hope it reaches a certain threshold so that when it's noticed as a dupe, it isn't taken down.
    • +4

Why was this marked for off-topic? It's showing that there's a dupe.
Pretty poor moderating on this site tbh.

  • -7

Best ice cream from Coles is Movenpick, not Connoisseur.

    • +16

Negative, best is connoisseur: cafe grande

      • +7

Can confirm this. Connoisseur is fantastic.

        • +2

can triple confirm this. connoisseur is excellent.

      • +2

Chocolate Honey Nougat is my vice. Have heard many a good thing about Cafe Grande though.

    • @westical,
i guess you like Movenpick's creme brulee as that's the ONLY flavour available at my coles.

      • -7

I obviously don't shop at your Coles then.

    • -8

So childish. Each to their own.
However this is a dupe post.

    • Wrong. Maggie Beer burned fig is the best! :)

  • Bought two myself the other day… took it as an opportunity to finally try Cookies and Cream and thought I'd try the Caramel Honey and Macadamia (goes well with Banana bread). Else I would have gotten the Cafe Grande as I usually do.

    • Caramel Honey and Macadamia goes really well with strawberries too!!!

  • -4

not that impressed by this stuff really, overpriced. the cookies and cream is no better than Bulla. best icecream is homer hudson and maggie beer.

    • +2

Heh, downvoted, ah well - i do like the Connoisseur's Ice Cream, but I'd agree that the Maggie Beer stuff is much nicer (though much more expensive, and some more "unusual" flavours).

    • why are people negging? he is right though…

    • -1

find a cookies+cream flavour in Bulla and we'll talk.

what a load of bull… might as well say homemade icecreams are the 'best icecream' while you are at it.

HH & MB have some nice flavours, i grant that.. but best in every flavour? lol.

Something is wrong here. Where are you Mods?
No offence to OP but dupe is dupe

    • +3

I agree, but don't hold your breath, Mods have this thing where if the 'community' believes its a good deal regardless of violations to rules, they leave it.

    • +4

It's been covered previously that some really good deals just get missed in the cluster of items posted in supermarket deals. Plus at least in Victoria, it's a goodnight to go out for some ice cream even if you just head out to coles/woollies and go back home

      • +4

some really good deals just get missed in the cluster of items

It's actually in the title of this one……

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83262

      • +5

He referred to this post. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83262
        Not the MyGroceries shebang.
There is no clutter, its the first one in the title.
I do agree good deals need to be highlighted but the moderating on this site is really getting ridiculous and biased.

For instances someone posted that huge list of Logitech Knockout 'deals' which honestly is impossible to go through and someone posts a deal with one of the items on the list 'highlighting' it in another post.
Outcome latter deal gets removed as a dupe.

        • +3

Moderating on this site is some of the least consistent I've ever come across. Reeks of amateurs. Stick by the guidelines on a regular basis, or just give up having moderators (which is a receipe for disaster..)

        • +5

I agreed. Mods should have only one rule and this is not happening at the moment. Where are you Scotty?

        • +3

I think consistency is what people are looking for.

        • EDIT: @puffbrady
Thanks for the kind words. Make us feel proud to volunteer our time 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.

How about we move on? Is it really necessary to have 100 comments of whether this is a duplicate or not? If it's a duplicate we remove it but if it has 70
+ votes and is on the frontpage then common sense dictates that maybe we should listen to the community. This is a community site remember. These are guidelines based on community feedback and common sense.

        • I actually never saw that link, guys

        • @puffbrady Feel free to start a thread in the site disussion forum, if you feel things are inconsistent.

        • +4

Are you saying the people can now allowed to post dupe deals if they have enough + votes for SOME REASONS? You might change your guideline as well. Where are you Scotty?

        • +4

Jeez I wasn't even coming off as aggressive but did I step on a nerve?

Thanks for the kind words. Make us feel proud to volunteer our time 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.

You're volunteering your time I get it and we appreciate your efforts but your coming off as arrogant and totally negates imo the whole point of volunteering (serving society etc whatever).

          I think a sufficient
"This is a Community based site and since its got such a great response from the community we are keeping this up." Or whatever, I think the former part was unnecessary I don't even think we were being disrespectful in our request.

        • +9

@puffbrady Feel free to start a thread in the site disussion forum, if you feel things are inconsistent.

No offense, but that would probably achieve very little. It would go along the lines of this:
Puff Braddy: "I feel things are inconsistent with the moderating around here, for this reason, that reason, and some other…"
Neil: "How else do you think we should moderate, then?" Or: "We'll look into it"

Case closed, and I doubt anything would come of it. Besides, you now know people are somewhat dissatisfied with the moderating specifically around this issue, what would a dedicated thread bring to the discussion that hasn't already been said?

        • @kanga My comment wasn't aimed at you kanga, it was this:

Moderating on this site is some of the least consistent I've ever come across. Reeks of amateurs.

I'm happy for feedback which is why I suggest opening a thread and not commenting on a thread on ice cream.

          @theearth

People shouldn't post duplicates. 99% are removed but if the majority of the community wants to see the deal via voting don't you think that's a good reason to keep it up? The guidelines are written based on what the community wants.

          @propspective
We are always looking for community feedback. The only way a website survives is by listening to it's community. Most of what you see on this site, features, community guidelines, is all shaped by feedback from users.

        • +6

Been here for couples years now. To sum it up, inconsistent is inconsistent. Dupe is DUPE. If its a dupe, link it to the original, so people can upvote that one so it'll be on the front page…

        • +2

          yes, guidelines are not statute.

        • +4

I think the community had ample of chance to be informed of the deal when this was posted http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83262

Do we really need to be reminded of existing deals by allowing members to repost the same exact deal. We are not talking about a deal tucked away in a massive amount of text. We are talking about a deal that lead with the words Peters Connoisseur Ice Cream 1L $5 (Save 44%)

It has been cheaper in the past and received only half the number of votes http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38692. This is clearly a rebellion against ozbargain's posting guidelines, which have been inconsistently applied here.

        • +1

^ It's funny/weird/retarded how 1 word can mean the difference between a deal being on the front page and being tucked away, is this the sign we have become so lazy to read past the first word Australia? lol.

        • I think this is all falling on deaf ears. But fair to say if the original deal ie http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83262 was posted by either Scotty or Neil I would say there would be a fairly high chance this deal would have been deleted. Reason: Duplicate

        • Simply not true, we don't post ice cream deals. ;)

        • I'll say it again, It was my first post, For some reason BOTH deals did not arise with the 'Similar Posts' detection. This post has had nearly 100 votes, more than any of the other original posts therefore it is informing more people of whom didn't know about it. All in all a good thing as this is a website about finding bargains, Not people complaining about everything.

        • @theearth

People shouldn't post duplicates. 99% are removed but if the majority of the community wants to see the deal via voting don't you think that's a good reason to keep it up? The guidelines are written based on what the community wants.

No…i don't think any good reason to keep it up because dupe is dupe and Mods should delete it earlier.
OP is clearly ignored dupe warning in this case. First time poster doesn't give him/her the right to break the rule. i have nothing to against OP but all the votes and credit should go to the Original poster ( poor tonester) http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83262.
I am waiting for the JUSTICE.

        • Maybe we all need to go out and get some of this ice cream, eat it and all go to bed feeling content, and look forward to some more original and exciting deals on ozbargain tomorrow. It's been an interesting and worthwhile discussion.

        • +5

I'll say it again, It was my first post

You get no special considerations for being a new person; the rules are accessible to everyone. Not sure why you keep bringing it up, because it's singularly irrelevant. We know it's your first post, there's a little '1' next to your name. Knowing people here, you're more likely to cop abuse by mentioning your 'new' status.

For some reason BOTH deals did not arise with the 'Similar Posts' detection

You don't solely rely on the 'Similar post' function when posting a deal (and as someone replied earlier, it worked for them when attempting to replicate your posting, so…)
          In any case:

          Search first
Someone else might have already submitted the deal. In that case, vote on the existing deal instead. Duplicated deals will be deleted.
There are 3 ways of searching to see if your deal has been posted.
          1. Use the search function to find the product or special you are posting.
          2. See deals by domain to see the recent deal posted from that store.
          3. See product tags to see recent deals posted that are tagged with your product.

          And this:

          Not people complaining about everything.

As I said above, you need to calm down. This was your fault for not searching, okay? Now get over it; if you can't handle criticism or people 'complaining', then the internet isn't for you. The argument isn't so much hinging on your ineptitude in searching prior to posting, it's about the moderation that followed.

        • +1

          @Jack

I think unity1 was getting at it seems unfair that dupes which get popular in the amount of time before the moderators act on it stay up while let say with my Logitech example it was up for 10-20 mins before it could gain any momentum and it got removed as a dupe.

Maybe mods should have a a 'window of time' for a dupe (which highlights a deal from a bigger post) to get popular before it gets removed. Instead of this inconsistency arising.

        • +3

It's all good buddy (JackFrost). Nothing against you at all. A first time poster can be forgiven for a mistake, but not a Moderator. Members are just arguing a case for consistency and uniformity. There is a message behind those 100+ votes, it's not for the deal alone.

        • @kanga

The window of time is ASAP but we get 1000 reports a month and sometimes we are away from our computers. 99.99% get removed as we remove them quite quickly (100s a month) but this one is probably 1 of a handful of the exception in the 6 years of OzBargain history.

        • +2

Thanks for the kind words. Make us feel proud to volunteer our time 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.

and we get paid to post deals ? lolz :P

        • +1

A lot of sooking going on here. The mods on this site are, for the most part, well and truly on the ball and actively involved with the community. This is a big, popular site (biggest of its kind in the country?) and sometimes things get overlooked. I think it would be great if the mods just stopped moderating for a week to show the community just how much work they do. Hopefully the site doesn't break with millions of iPhone case and dodgy jeweller deals.

So many people getting up in arms about this and it's such a minor thing.

        • The Mods are doing a good job IMO and how does a DUPE affect us ? :S

I take this as "fun and games", hope people don't as you said "go up in arms" and revolt against this…, OZB have few Mods compared to other similar sized communities !

Neil does a really good job, putting up with me is a nightmare for anyone… lol

        • It has been cheaper in the past and received only half the number of votes http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38692

          also http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62752 :)

    • -6

      we need new mods, seriously!

  • +7

There seems to be a problem with the guidelines…..

Someone else might have already submitted the deal. In that case, vote on the existing deal instead. Duplicated deals will be deleted.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

Should be "duplicated deals will be deleted….. maybe"

edit…. apols…. meant to go in the 'off topic' bit of the thread…..

    • Don't worry, yours stupidly got marked as 'off topic' too.

      • It's off-topic. This is a deal about ice cream?

      • +6

        That's good….

        wouldn't want any inconsistency…

        • +3

          What Should Not Be Posted

          Duplicates

Don't post duplicates (deals that are already on the site). Please search OzBargain before >posting.

          Exceptions:

The original deal is older than one month, and was expired or sold out between then and now.

The original deal is active but older than 6 months.

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

Seems to be an exception missing…..

        • Thanks. Have fixed it although it's likely a 1 in every 10000 deal situation.

        • +1

          ahhh… I see…

The duplicate gains an excessive amount of positive votes (50+) and reaches the front page.

          interesting…… introducing a competitive edge…. "Vote racing"….

So now… we can just post someone else's deal and hope we get more positive votes…

          cool.

Is there a time frame for achieving the 50 votes?

        • You'd hope the dupe is deleted long before reaching 50 votes..

        • Yes, between when a moderator receives a report and acts on it. The majority of time, one of us is here but there are times like holidays and weekends where it can be a couple of hours or more, like tonight.

Purposely trying to do what you are proposing will involve in consequences for the poster.

Cmon, we are all here for the deals. Let's not sweat the small stuff.

        • +1

          noooo….. is now a popularity contest…..

        • +5

Cmon, we are all here for the deals. Let's not sweat the small stuff.

This is the internet, and we reserve our right to argue and nitpick over stuff!

        • Ha, that's true. Keep calm and bargain on.

        • +2

Purposely trying to do what you are proposing will involve in consequences for the poster.

How will this be determined?….. was this one done purposely?

Let's not sweat the small stuff.

This is quite big stuff, I would suggest.

I always thought I was doing the right thing by sticking to the guidelines and reporting duplicate posts…. However, I'm now really unclear about what a duplicate post is.
This 'deal' has been mentioned in at least two other posts…. (a 'triplicate' perhaps). Should I not be reporting dupes any more, just in case they become popular?

        • +4

Can someone please post a popcorn deal

        • Please keep reporting everything that you feel doesn't meet with the guidelines.

The weekly listing and individual listing of supermarket deals are discussed in this thread and based on community feedback received in June 2012, both are permitted.

        • +1

So now that needs to be changed to allowing the weekly listing and 2x identical individual listings for the same deal.

        • +1

Isn't it possible to merge deals, in situations such as this?
By all means, keep up the deletion of regular duplicates, but couldn't it be possible to merge the deals and their positive votes, and keep the description and author of the original? It seems to me that this would be the best solution, in keeping the place uncluttered.

        • You mean merge deleted duplicates and the original deal?

        • +1

I mean, like in this circumstance, merge the original posted deal with the duplicate with all the positive votes. Therefore, the positive votes are retained, and so the community can still see the bargain, but there isn't an actual duplicate thread lying around, cluttering up the place. And, the original poster still gets recognition for the deal, with perhaps the duplicate author being a secondary, or co-, author.
          Just an idea.
I doubt the moderating suite would accommodate this feature, specifically, though…?
