Throughout the years Footbolt is becoming the synonym of classic and consistent McLaren Vale Shiraz. Pour in your glass and you will see a crimson-purple colour with a subtle ruby halo. A swirl in the glass and fragrant aromas of dark plum, blackberry fruits, boysenberries, subtle black pepper and a touch of liquorice will come straight up. On the palate is where the wine becomes fascinating. Rich and opulent black fruits, plums, blackberries and boysenberries are intertwined with cured meat, mocha, peppery spices and a plush coat of red cherries. Tannins are ripe and velvety. Acidity, alcohol and oak balance are impeccable, the length ditto. Great drinking now but will cellar well too.

Dark berry, almost mulberry fruit blends seamlessly with fine oak and fruit tannins, contributing to the deep and persistent structure of this wine. There is a clear suggestion of the complexity to develop with further time in bottle. Powerfully elegant with a depth and purity of fruit and gently integrated oak characters - this is truly a wine for the people!

Full-bodied and rich. This Barossa Shiraz displays notes of aromatic black fruit concentrates and touches of subtle oak. Fine tannins support the palate for a complex finish.

      93 Points
Sweetly ripe and beautifully fragrant with dark berry, cedar, subtle cocoa and mixed spice aromas, it's succulent and flavoursome in the mouth displaying excellent weight and silky texture. Well rounded and polished with a lingering delectable finish. At its best: now to 2031.

  • All '21 vintage. I donno about everyone else, but i don't like the '21 SA vintage. Maybe worth while aging?

      Vintage quality: Good (Excellent)

      Current condition: Keep or drink

For Australia, the 2021 vintage is shaping up to be markedly good, particularly for South Australia.

The growing season was slightly warmer than average without the rage and fury of the previous year's catastrophic wildfires. In general, the growing season was markedly calm with a near perfect ratio between warm sunny days and intermittent rain, which was never ample enough to make rot or disease a problem.

  • None of our group of 4 fancied any of their wines but if you're in the area a visit to the estate and the "Dali" cube is a MUST. Fabulous. One of the highlights of our (self-guided) tour through the region.
