On sale is this tank of a phone absolutely packed with cool features that you'll struggle to find in anything else. Straight up the coolest feature is the inbuilt laser projector at the top of the phone that can project the screen in 720p HD resolution. Perfect for YouTube, movies and more. The other outstanding feature is the 64MP night vision camera with 4 IR LEDs for providing night time footage. There's also two massive cool/warm LED lights on the rear.

Like other rugged phones this one is heavy and has an IP68/69K waterproof/drop rating so it'll work perfectly fine if it takes a dip. With a 15500mAh battery this supports reverse charging so it can be used as a power bank and there's an IR blaster so it can be used as a remote. It offers good performance for gaming and general use too due to the MediaTek Helio G99 CPU paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Features include Android 13, 6.79" 2460x1080 120Hz display, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage (microSD support), MediaTek Helio G99 CPU, 15500mAh battery with 66W USB-C fast charging + reverse charging, 108MP Main + 64MP Night Vision + 16MP wide angle rear cameras, 32MP front cameras, NFC, 4G Dual SIM with B28, fingerprint reader, custom side button, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, FM radio and weighs 531g.

For reviews I recommend checking this one out by Chigz Tech Reviews. It's worth mentioning that the flickering seen in the projector test is due to the filming and not how it looks in person. If you really wanted to splurge on cash the Tank 3 Pro for around A$930ish.

As for downsides there's no Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD and given the rugged design and massive battery this weighs a whopping 531g.

    With a 15500mAh battery

Not just a tank. Can also double as a blunt weapon to whack would be muggers with.

Blind them with the massive lights on the back before you smack em with it.

  • Is there anything this phone can't do…?

Wow. That's some some pretty crazy hardware buried in Aliexpress.

Lotion dispenser for the mobile peepshow

      • You need the Sango card holder & hand sanitiser dispenser that sticks to the back of your phone. Fill it with lotion and stuff a few tissues in the card holder.

        • You seem mighty familiar with this here product ಠಿ_ಠ

Dare I ask for a review?

@anonym: I know a lot about wacky products. This one time a company named Babahu wanted me to write an Indiegogo campaign for them and in exchange I'd get some of the product. I declined….

            What a con!

            • @Clear: You just convinced me that it's possible to find anything both imaginable and uninmaginable on the internet.

How pray tell do you even get to come across these things at any kind of frequency in the first place? 😂

              • @anonym: When I was an editor at Gizchina/Gizmochina it was my job to follow the latest tech coming out of China very closely and I still do. I get a nice feed of new products from Chinese crowdfunding sites. Often a lot of innovative products there arrive here or the US a few years later.

@Clear: Front row seats to some of the craziest ideas ever brought to life. Sounds challenging but fun!

    • Go in your pants pocket without your pants falling down. He's dropping it all the time because he can't put it in his pants and his arm is getting sore from carrying it.

I will say that wolf was up to no good, as soon as he thought the cops were coming he bolted.

  • I see you've been looking for a throwable replacement to that monitor you just broke. I guess being cranky helps with cranking out Aliexpress deals!

  • Getting closer to nokia brick in terms of phone size and weight

    • Only thing missing is a user replaceable battery!

    • Phones are way bigger now so strange argument . Nokia's were thicker though and the weight was similar.

      Battery life was unmatched.

  • Is there a reason why other more established phone brands are not able to pack all these features in their phones nowadays? There was a time when all the flagship phones were competing to include as many features as they could, but then all of a sudden they now seem like competing to remove features one by one. Why??

    • +2

These features are too niche for the big players and with everything getting more thin they simply don't fit. Plus Apple/Samsung etc. have a good formula of phones with very little new features that sell really well. No reason to be innovative anymore.

      • +1

Innovative no but citting edge like samsungs new UFS4 memory yes, the big guys make it and it gets cheaper and trickles down to the others over time.

        • Advances in storage speed is to be expected. I know UFS 4.0 was already in phones by January 2023.

          • @Clear: Yes i think December 2022 was the first phone with it. It would be some time until the mid tier manufacturers provided it.

            • @Spendmore: I keep thinking OnePlus isn't a big player when they are as part of BBK.

      • Don't be silly, didn't Google put in a temperature sensor in the Pixel 8 Pro and thermal IR camera in the Pixel 4 XL? Sure they've proven what we knew when these features were announced, that they'd be pointless, but at least they're doing something to be different…. Even if it is different stupid.

        • You kinda missed the point. Sure the Pixel 8 has a temperature sensor and that's cool but the Pixel 4 wasn't showing off their 'thermal camera' as a feature. Rather to get face unlock working in the dark they included a fron IR camera and to get that to work as an actual thermal camera you needed a 3rd party app. Tech has improved since then and it's no longer needed for face unlock.

You wouldnt want to lug a half kilo phone around all the time because you use the projector or night vision a few times per year, the more features like that the bigger the battery needed. Im not sure on how many screen time hours it would last but i bet the extra capacity is due to those features probably chomping through the battery.

  • When I go camping, I always bring a projector screen with me.

    • +2

Picked up the 12V Kickass projector just before Xmas, went away for 2 weeks camping and had 6 kids watching Pixar films, playing Mario etc before bed.

Kept them, and us, very relaxed.

      • I just looked that up on google… incredible.

  • Also, I love that long list of features… It's incredible?!!

"Features include Android 13, 6.79" 2460x1080 120Hz display, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage (microSD support), MediaTek Helio G99 CPU, 15500mAh battery with 66W USB-C fast charging + reverse charging, 108MP Main + 64MP Night Vision + 16MP wide angle rear cameras, 32MP front cameras, NFC, 4G Dual SIM with B28, fingerprint reader, custom side button, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, FM radio and weighs 531g."

My favourite feature is the last one!

  • But in all seriousness, after watching that chigz tech review clip:
    1) The phone is massive.
    2) I can imagine it has a few flaws.
    3) It appears to have a few features that 99.9% of phones don't have. I'm a bit tempted to buy it, I must admit.

    • Yeah even I'm tempted to buy one as a new work phone. The projector alone reminded me of the SmartQ U7 projector tablet from 2013. I remember wanting to get one from Buyincoins back in the day.

  • The 108MP sensor is a Samsung S5KHM2. Bins down to 12MP instead of the 27MP Xiaomis with the S5KHMX does. Shame

  • I could imagine teenagers playing tic toc/youtube on there ceilings with this phone….

  • Almost 16,000mAh? That's WILD!

    • +1

That's nothing compare to the Tank 3 Pro that's 23800mAh!

      • +1

        DAYUM!

Would you like some phone with that power bank? 🤣

      • How on earth does that thing have fan cooling yet is IP68 waterproof??

      • Now that's what I would call a BRICK

      • Can you take that tank 3 on a plane?

        • You would need approval as its well above 100Wh.

      • Is this android or something else? Can't see it on the listing anywhere

  • 40 Lumens for the projector.

I hope you have a dark room.

  • What a cool phone! It may not be a sleek cool one but a bit of variety never hurt. We need companies trying new things.

  • Video review of the phone. If I had the spare cash I'd check it out, especially for the projector - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1_ZYW7alzU

  • Wish it was dual sim, would've bought it straight away
