  • True classics but can they run on windows 7 seamlessly?

    • +4

They should do yes, all GOG games are "re-engineered" to work on current hardware and OS's and are also DRM free.

They don't have a lot of info about this on their own page (not that I've foind anyway), but there's a good explanation of what they do on Wikipedia.

      • Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of them seem to just be dosbox or an already existing windows conversion rather then "re-engineered"

I haven't played too many of their games though.

        • Nope, you're right.

        • You're right, but the installer is all pre-configured so it just works and it is a valid licence. Worth $2.38 in my opinion.

    • I've only tried Wing Commander 3 and 4 so far, and they worked perfectly (had to install some codecs for WC4 but that took 5 minutes).

I have bought a few off this list (all the Bullfrog games) in the past and the only one I had trouble with was Dungeon Keeper 2, but they issued a patch and I didn't have any problems after that.

Anyone who hasn't played the DK games or Theme Hospital should do themselves a favour! Theme Hospital actually has a really cool opensource version called CorsixTH (http://code.google.com/p/corsix-th/) if anybody wants to try it/play it for free.

    Thanks. Bought SimCity 2000.

  • Nice, thanks. I bought Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper and Syndicate, all of which I was surprised to see can run on Mac. :)

    • I've noticed quite a few of the GOG games are showing Apple availability. I know SFA about Macs, would I be correct in assuming that most or maybe all of these titles were not originally available for Apple PC's but have been made to work now that Apple use Intel processors for (some of?) their computers?

      • Some of the older games run through DosBox, so I assume that they might be using a Mac port of that to allow some of these older games to run.

I used to have a Mac, and I remember that Populous and SimCity 2000 were pretty big hits back in the day. I do know that the original Wing Commander was never ported to Mac (they instead ported Super Wing Commander, an enhanced edition that was also available on the 3DO).

  • Thanks. Bought NOX… i remember it was a very good game…

    Just grabbed dungeon keeper 1&2
Can't wait till the next full moon! :P

    Great, got Alpha Centauri.
If you have a joystick, Privateer is well worth it (many lost nights)

  • Picked up Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2 and Ultima 7,8,9. Thanks.

Theme Hospital is still one of my all-time favourite games (best micromanagement levels of almost any sim without going over the top…) - does anyone know if this is patched to work over TCP/IP for multiplayer? I've had to keep a Windows XP Virtual Machine to emulate IPX just to play this (and a few other older games).

    Populous. Great game.

    No theme park? =(

    • Strange that GoG.com doesn't sell it. But EA released a newer version of it for the DS about 5 years ago, maybe that has something to do with it… just a guess.

Bought SimCity 2000 & Theme Hospital - no one has mentioned the free games that appear in your account - a sign-in bonus perhaps?

    Freebies:
    Lure of the Temptress
    Beneath a Steel Sky
    Dragonsphere
Ultima™ 4: Quest of the Avatar
    Warsow
Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire
Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams
Treasure Adventure Game - Karma (short game)
    Teen Agent
    Tyrian 2000

    • Yep they're free on all new accounts at GOG.com I've noticed.

    • I enjoyed Beneath a Steel Sky and, erm, that was it.

  • If you love classic games, I can highly recommend these games, I have purchased the following list of games twice. Once originally and once again via Gog.com they are great games in mine and many other peoples opinion:
    SID MEIER'S ALPHA CENTAURI™
    SIMCITY 2000™ SPECIAL EDITION
    DUNGEON KEEPER™
    DUNGEON KEEPER™ 2
    THEME HOSPITAL
    SYNDICATE™

    Long live Bullfrog!!! Wait…
