Got the Adidas version, but if you’re on the fence about lifting shoes for squats : do it!

    • Wow, they're quite the statement. I wouldn't wear those unless I could squat 300kg

  • +4

Great shoes, note they run narrow. If you have wide feet then worth going up half a size.

    • very narrow, if you have wide feet go adidas

      • Good info to have, thanks. I have a pair of adidas that are already too narrow so definitely rules out the Nikes.

    • +2

Apparently we got Mattie Roger’s to thank for that. Pulls the strings so tight she keeps ripping them despite how narrow the damn shoes are…
That’s why you don’t entirely rely on a handful of athletes for the sole design input…

  • squatting in flats is bad now ?

    • +7

No, olympic lifting shoes have different biomechanics. One isn't necessarily better for squatting.

    • if you can reach good squat depth in flats, that's good for you.

    • Some people don't have the flexibility to squat to depth in flats. If you can do it, then great.

    • +1

Barefoot shoes are my favourites for squats and deadlifts, basically my gym shoes now.

    • +1

It's also about stability, these type of shoe fitted correctly feel like being nailed to the floor.

    Good price.

That's a lotta dollars for an on special shoe!

That's a lotta dollars for an on special shoe!

$200 is dirt cheap compared to specialist sports shoes in just about any other activity. There are golf shoes easily go north of twice that… and that's for a sport that involves walking on a big lawn.

Plenty of everyday, around the town footwear costs more.

      • Boxing shoes are the same. The really good ones like Speedex are well over $300 iirc.

        • +1

There are more expensive lifting shoes out there, as well as cheaper boxing shoes. These are a little more expensive than Nike Machomais which are a popular boxing shoe.

          • @jamesorion: Ohhh absolutely! I rock the much cheaper Nike Savaleos + Metcon 7 combo, but definitely want to get a Romaleos one day.

For anyone that isn't really into lifting or not about that life. This price tag will not make any sense to

    • Damn, I've bought uglier pairs of shoes/sneakers for more than this though.. 😅

I was about that life, now I'm just about donuts.

      • +1

        Donuts is life babe

Apologies for the ignorance, I haven't been to a gym for quite some years due to an injury, do you change shoes depending on workouts?

    • If you're lifting very heavy and have purpose specific squatting shoes, then yeah. Largely for late intermediate/advanced powerlifters.

For beginner/intermediate, highly recommend metcons or if on a strict budget, van's or chucks (converse).

    • +5

These are only for Olympic lifters… And maybe for serious squatters… So doesn't sound like they be suitable for you

For general gym work… Any shoe would do… Just get in the gym

      • For general gym work… Any shoe would do… Just get in the gym

        I wish I could upvote this 100x

These are beneficial for ANYTHING using a squat motion. Single leg, leg press, belt squat etc.

But you are right in that being in the gym in more important than anything else.

      • +1

Agree with most things, but I wouldn’t put a blind statement like that.

If you are leaning to lift and would like to put more effort into improving, a lifting oriented shoe goes a long way.

Don’t have to be top of the line oly lifters, even metcons etc will make a big difference for their stability.

Because general statements do end up having people use cushy running shoes and they are stable so they don’t like lifting.

        It all depends…

  • +1

Waste of money unless you're Olympic weightlifting

    • I call BS. The product photo on the Nike website clearly shows the model goblet squatting with a 10kg dumbbell.

    Bare feet coat zero dollars.

    • -1

A lot of gyms make you wear shoes even on lifting platforms with socks on

    • -1

      Bare feet- free.

Home gym where you can train in bare feet- several thousand.

  • only 29% off, not enough for me to bite. i currently have adidas.
hoping this drops down to 50% off soon.

    • +1

Adidas and Nike shoes have a very different fit. Romaleos fit very much like a metcon imho … I found adidas powerlifts is a skinnier and longer shoe. I have both. The Nike fit is much better fit me. Although lately i have switched back to a very flat shoe now.

    • Do Romaleos ever go to 50% off? This is the best price I've seen so far.

  • Damn these look sick!
