Anyone Taken a RV / Drove around Yellowstone National Park (USA) ?

Parents are looking to fly from the Fairbanks in Alaska and check out Yellowstone national park. Then fly back to Australia.

Just looking for tips of where to fly into (Bozeman, Jackson Hole, Denver etc)?

Where to get an RV?

or perhaps a car?and hotels / Airbnb etc are better? Any recommendations?

Food stops?

Lastly, where should they finish up for flying out (normally the pick up and departure locations are cheaper if both the same for an RV or car).

Thanks

    Looks like fun…

    • Unbearable to watch ..

  • We took a car and a tent. Lots to see.
    Just don't go swimming.

    • Just don't go swimming.

Is this a Breaking Bad thing? Only seen two episodes… but sure…let's says they do…

I'm sure my "Mom" might even take the old man on a trip to the "train station" after a few weeks confined (getting in early for Yellowstone innuendo).

We flew into Bozeman and hired a car, stayed in a cabin at Canyon Village, from there it gave us great access to the park. It's a different world in there, would love to go back 1 day. Make sure they have good bino's.

    • Cheers for this. Hire car from Bozeman airport itself? Did you fly out of Bozeman as well?

Travel agent has booked them in/ out of Denver! Seems miles away to me?

Will look into Canyon Village. Hotel prices look HUGE at the start of June.

Oh, how many days do you think they will need to explore the area?

      Thanks again

      • Yes we hired and returned to Bozeman airport and flew out of Bozeman
Yeah Denver is basically a whole day driving just to get to Yellowstone, not bad if they have time on their side otherwise it's basically 1-2 days you miss out on being in the park.
We did 5 nights which felt like a sweet spot, not rushed at all, got to see everything and get side tracked. We went near the start of their spring when the park was a bit quieter, bears were out of hibernation, still a bit of snow about which means more animals are in the grass lands to see.

        • Cheers. I think they have allowed for 10 days.. accomodation will be interesting!

  • We flew into Billings and hired a car there. We then drove the Beartooth highway to Yellowstone. It's a beautiful drive but windy.
Then spent a few night at Mammoth Lakes and then a few nights at the Old faithful inn. We then headed out to Cody and Deadwood and returned the car at Rapid city.

One thing to note is that yellowstone is quite high up and some people experience headaches and can feel nauseous from the high altitude.

    • Big penalty cost for the one way rental to Rapid City?

      • The one way drop fee was $100 US. You do need to do a bit of research to find the best deals.

        • $100 isn't too bad (Just don't look at the exchange ; ) cheers.
